this thing is buggy and just not worth the money. There are better options out there for gaming pc. I have a 4 year old alienware that is still working and has less issues. I went through two of because they had the gtx 1060 chip wish i had waited for something better.

The GTX 1060 in this model is only 3GB!

Beware, the GTX 1060 in this model is the 3GB variant and has cores disabled, not the proper 6GB variant. The problem with this is that means that it is actually a 1050ti and you will not get what is advertised.

Powerful laptop, disappointing sound

After reading a bunch of reviews I felt confident this would be a great choice for a compact gaming laptop even with the 3GB variant of the GTX1060. Upon booting up for the first time, I was very impressed as colors seemed to pop and the keyboard is very eye catching.
The keyboard felt great, very responsive and felt well-built but it took me a while to get use to the touch-pad. The material on the pad is the same as the body of the laptop, and felt a bit grainy when swiping horizontally. As I said previously the keyboard was very eye-catching and had great range of illumination but I had issues getting the color scheme I set to stay. Through various times it would boot up with the keyboard back to OEM settings (rainbow set) then show all red, then randomly back to my scheme. While not a big deal, it was a minor annoyance as I expected better controls to be in place.
Now to the meat and potatoes. The computer is very quick! I was able to boot up from complete shutdown to the login screen in about 5 seconds thanks to the SSD. Even with the games I had installed on the HD, I never felt it took too long to boot up any programs. Multi-tasking never seemed like it was an issue as I had 4 or 5 programs going with downloading occurring in the background and even streamed games with no stutter in gameplay. The GPU was able to handle a great amount of games on Ultra/high settings. I ran Watchdogs 2 on all high settings and was still getting 50-60 fps. Benchmark tests put the laptop in the top 77 percentile, while putting out 100 fps on DirectX 12 from PassMark.
My biggest complaint of the system was the sound. The built-in speakers are completely terrible and have harsh distortion even on low volume settings. I first noticed it playing Fallout: New Vegas but figured it was just due to the game. But upon trying out Spotify, Youtube and Pandora it was all the same! I had the volume set at 10% and it would still blast distortion when normal dialogue was playing. I tried plugging in headphones and it was still the same. I wasn't expecting the speakers to blow my pants off but the current performance was unacceptable for the price.
There unfortunately was no workaround that would be viable for a portable machine so I decided to return it and grabbed an Asus GL702V, and have been extremely impressed so far. If you can truly put up with the terrible sound or don't plan on listening to anything, it's sitll a great machine.

How to program system is not what you expect when you buy something and pay that much money for it should've read reviews on it to see that it is overpriced for the products durability

Even considering the juice this machine has, it runs entirely too hot. I exchanged this for the AW 17 R4 with the GTX1080 and it runs 200% cooler.

I have had problems from day one with this computer. The optical drive it just about useless! It runs at about 6 to 20mbps transfer rate. Sometimes it will run at around from 20 to 50mbps. I can hookup a USB 3.0 external drive and get 50 to 90mbps. Not to mention all the other problems I have had. My Acer of 3 years old is faster then this thing.

This does not have the normal 6gb video memory on the 1060! Had to return it because of that.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The Good......
-Great computer with a dedicated graphics card.
-Screen is nice and bright
-RBG Keyboard has a great feeling to it
Bad.....
-laptop gets a little warm when using but i expected it. (its a gaming laptop duh!)
-no dedicated volume button. have to use FN plus arrows to change volume
-speakers are not the greatest. sounds like they are facing down (sounds muffled to me when using)
-BLOATWARE, BLOATWARE, and wait for it...........more BLOATWARE. (every new pc comes with it so im not to mad about that)
THE UGLY......Why i returned it
The Track Pad.... i dont know why msi thought it was a good idea to put paint on it. (i do. it was to match the ascetics of the case) The paint goes in one direction. going up and down is fine but going left and right is like rubbing your finger against the grain of wood. lots of friction. feels like finger skips across it when using it sometimes
Im not going to give this laptop a bad rating. Its a great laptop. I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about buying a gaming laptop. I bought this purely on its specs without messing around with it to much. before you buy i recommend trying the trackpad

This computer has many problems including how the graphics card handles extended monitor, it doesn't. Also the audio will not connect to the speakers only static and awful sound. This computer is not ready for the market, 2nd one and is same as first.

I purchased this laptop for college (I'm majoring in CG Animation/VFX) and I needed something that has a lot of memory, a good graphics card, and is fast. This laptop was a really good choice. Amazing screen and quality, you can customize the keyboard, and it has a lot of space. I had Geek Squad install virus protection and some software (Maya 2016 and 2014, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Office), but it is running fine. Definitely uninstall Nahimic before though. I tested the speakers at Best Buy and we had terrible sound but it was fixed immediately after we uninstalled Nahimic. Great laptop and meets the specifications that I was recommended for school.

Works extremely well for what it is, obviously a bit outdated now. However, it's still running great, and runs all of my games other than the super old ones that just don't play nice with newer computers.

Is the laptop a beast for gaming? yes. Is the wifi good? yes. Is the glowing keyboard cool? yes. The Bluetooth? hit or miss. Now how about that battery. While I sat to write this review (all of two minutes) it has lost about 5-7% of a charge... This isn't gaming this isn't watching videos its light web browsing. In this age I would expect better then 45-60 minutes for a battery. If I was gaming I could understand, but sitting here surfing the web? I had the battery die in 45 minutes watching simple youtube videos. A full movie I wouldn't dream of it. So is the laptop good for gaming yes, good for lots of things, just make sure your near a power outlet or don't buy it.

1. Update all drivers and bios from the Msi website. Update nahimic to nahimic 2 to get rid of crackling speakers sound. Already had 2 new geforce drivers released since I bought this a week and a half ago.
2. Remember to change installation location to D: for added programs unless you want the SSD drive to fill up fast.
3. EXTREMELY happy with this.
4. This has 2 video cards installed. It will default to the built in Microsoft video unless you tell it to prioritize the gfx 1060.. Easy to do in Nvidia control panel.

Was simply stunned that this runs WoW at full ultra, 19x12 at 70-80 fps with refresh lock off. When set to match refresh it easily runs a steady 60fps. I used to build Asus gaming laptops from bare bones, but the price on this one is an incredible value. My desktop is an AMD six core with an Nvidia 1050Ti and this just blows it out of the water. the cooling features are very efficient and quiet.

Great Laptop for the money

The specs of this laptop are worth the money especially at 1250. Now it runs all of my games well. It's super fast with the i7. I love the textured trackpad but some don't. Just test it. Now the sound will give you problems if you update the realtek driver because it runs through Nahamic2 as a filter. It will result in cracking sound. Simple solution is keep audio drivers stock or uninstall Nahamic2. Same thing with keyboard lighting. 2 programs control it, dragon center or steel series. Only use steel series and no problem. MSI very strong with hardware. If you are a power user then fixing the software bloat and issues are easy. If not then get a console.

Great Laptop, Sound Issues

This laptop works great. I got it at 200 dollars off and am very happy with it. However, I encountered a problem where my speakers would sound really bad even through headphones. It was crackling and popping and just terrible. Resetting did not fix it. What did fix it was downloading the updated version of Nahimic. The default installed on the device is not compatible with Windows 10. that fixed it on some applications. I then updated the sound driver and it has worked perfectly since.
It does get warm but what did you expect. I love the Dragon Center which allows you to monitor your system and control the LED keyboard. You can easily see the temperature of the CPU and GPU. The cooling boost is also nice.

Runs exceptionally cool under load. Plays games like Battlefield 1 quite well with consistent fps of 60+ on ultra settings. This laptop also has a great looking screen. Only issue with this laptop was the bloatware.
