Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the GS Series 17.3" Gaming Laptop's performance, keyboard, graphics, and ample RAM. Many appreciate the large, high-quality screen and sturdy build. However, some users note that the laptop runs hot, has a short battery life, and can be noisy at times. The high price point was also a recurring concern for some customers.

This has been a fantastic deal for what is offered; even came with Killer Gaming network. The MaxQ 2080 card is AMAZING, especially with reflection graphics. I use this for online school and some work, but the gaming that has been done has been flawless. Borderlands 3 works great!!! Super slim profile, does major processing well (think: linked MS Word, Access database, Excel, photos, Maps and graphics all in the same document and little to no lag whatsoever as the document is compiled and then unlinked - whoa...so awesome!) I love ASUS, but their similar unit was over $600 more and this SteelSeries rocks, Rogue or Zephyrus was no contest decision. Definitely recommend!

This laptop has been a life saver for me this year in college, and I am extremely happy I decided to buy it. In terms of use, I use this laptop to regularly develop 3D models inside of Autodesk Maya, I use it to create texture assets in the Adobe suite, and I also use its higher performance options when I bring those art assets into Unreal Engine 4. This laptops specs will cover just about anything you will need it to do, and it also functions as great high end gaming laptop. In addition, MSI just release a higher in RTX graphics card and this will come included in new models of the laptop.

MSI GS with 2080 MAX Q, and 9th Gen I7 is a great gaming laptop. It runs smooth, starts fast and is very light and thin. The only issue I have with this machine is how hot it runs. While gaming it is constantly doing a thermal throttle. I had to remove the stock thermal paste, and undervolt the CPU. With my changes and the fan on turbo cool I can play for extended times without overheating. Overall it is a great machine and cheaper than similar with the same or better specs, but they could have done better with the thermal regulation.

I purchased this as a work machine more than gaming. Having said that it has performed as both very well. A few issues make it a 3 instead of a 5 for me. 1st off the matte finish shows fingerprints and smudges and looks dirty after a week of normal handling. I wish it was a aluminum finish like a macbook or something else that looked better after use without needing white cotton gloves. They also fail to mention that the default setting for the battery is to only charge to 50%. I spent several hours trying to trouble shoot the battery and had it die on me away from a outlet since it would only charge to 50%. It would simply say "plugged in not charging". Turns out you have to install a MSI app that allow you to configure how much charge the battery will take. Very frustrating and not intuitive. I am also concerned a bit about how fragile the screen pivots seem on a 17" display. I would much rather have a chunkier and heavier laptop (with more robust cooling) that felt like it would last and have some heft and rigidity to it. I'm afraid that MSI has a case of Apple Syndrome where for some reason thinner is the most important part of a laptop. For a pro or gamer it is not in my opinion. I'm also a little concerned about the durability of the power plug where it plugs into the laptop. Maybe i'm just spoiled by Apples Magsafe connector on other laptops but it already seems like it has some play and is also places the cable in front of the fan output on the side so it gets super heated when you do intensive GPU or CPU activities. I was going to get the Alienware 51m (with carbon fiber chassis and a rear mount power plug) since it seemed to be more solid and offered a desktop class RTX 2080 GPU but the build was not available until July. I hope this turns out to be a solid machine. Fingers crossed for my first MSI Laptop.

My son is writing this review because he bought the laptop on my account: I wanted a powerful laptop to play games, with portability as a (smaller) factor in my purchase. The laptop has great performance - which was expected due to its incredible specs. I can play anything from Minecraft to COD-MW, while still being able to have a great looking, portable device. So far, 10/10 ps. Love the keyboard chroma

I got a great deal with this being open box! It runs all the current games without a problem, just not on ultra settings if you want decent fps. I use this as my full time computer, and it's plugged into a 4k t.v. Runs games at 4k and I have enjoyed being able to take it with me when I go on trips. Fits in my Osprey backpack perfectly.

The computer is thin and light. The keyboard looks really cool with all of the lights. Most importantly, it has handled every program or game I have used without any sign of slow down. The 32GB of memory is great when I need to run a large number of VMs for my job. The 1TB drive is plenty large to have all of my essential programs and half a dozen games installed. I highly recommend this laptop!

This laptop is great. I just bought this laptop and so far i love it. This MSI Laptop was recommended to me by Best Buy for not only gaming but for Turbo Cad so I can make my own floor plans. The graphics are awesome and its real easy to use. The big plus was the different colors on the keyboard. I would highly recommend it.

Love this laptop, this is my first MSI and I'm very excited. Very quiet and the lid shuts smoother than any other laptop I've owned. I love everything from the custom keyboard and settings to the gold accents. However, while setting it up it was already getting a little warm and the speakers could be better. But that's not a big deal to me.

Use this with my HTC Vive VR and it runs it flawlessly. Love the customizable Steel Series Keyboard and its nearly infinite color possibilities though not. Looking forward to putting the RTX 2080 to work once developers start engaging the Ray Tracing technology and its potential. Overall a great laptop and can handle anything I throw at it. Would highly recommend.

I have had this laptop for a little over a month now and I have no complaints. I play all the games that I normally play on max settings and have not noticed any issues. The more intensively graphic games are averaging between 90-100 fps and rarely ever dip under that and it is only using 50% of the CPU cores. The laptop frame itself is absolutely beautiful.

Can get hot on the bottom after long gaming sessions but the performance doesn't suffer. The large mouse pad takes some getting used to but a great feature. Fantastic keyboard, I just wish it came with more presets that are not flashy for dark rooms. Ubuntu dual boot works well, haven't found any hardware support issues.

I purchased this for my business because I always have at least 4-6 programs open at any given time and work the stuff out of my computers, which is why I wanted the fastest processor with a lot of memory. This MSI delivers! This is my first MSI computer and I am very happy with my purchase.

I got this for my graphic design program i’ll be taking for college but when it comes to gaming I was really impressed, Runs as good as my 2080 desktop. The only thing Is it can run hot so I would recommend a cooling pad to help with the heat.

I purcahsed an ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS with the same exact specs. It was a great computer, but I paid $2,899 for it. I chose it over this one because the Best Buy listing said it had an RTX 2080. It didn't mention Max Q. Turns out, like most thin laptops with an RTX 2080, it is, in fact, Max Q design. So I saw this one for $2,300 on sale and decided to buy it. I compared the two and ended up returning the ASUS. It has pretty much the same exact specs, plus it's lighter and has a smaller footprint so the MSI is more portable. So basically for about $600 less I got the same computer, except it says MSI instead of ASUS on it. So far, I don't have any complaints. It runs basically all the newest games on ultra. The 32GB RAM also really helps for multi-tasking. The screen is sharp and games in true 1080 HD with 144hz look amazing.

This was a present for my son. He says it is a good computer for gaming but gets hot when playing games unless on ultra cool for fans. The fans can be a little noisy but when wearing a headset it is still fairly quiet.

I was looking for a powerful gaming computer to replace my aging desktop. I saw that this computer had an open box option that was almost half the cost. I decided to give it a shot and I couldnt be any happier that I did. There was a great no questions asked return policy offered to me, which helped my hesitations buying open box, and the laptop was in almost perfect condition as stated on the website. Im glad i took the risk and appreciated the contactless, curbside pickup that we had because most other places near me were just outright closed. Overall 10/10 experience
