First off this is my first MSI laptop and I've always used Asus Rog Laptops, now first off this thing...IS A BEAST, literally fast and smooth no issues at all, games play great and the screen is awesome, you will not be disappointed if you buy this machine and also this version of the 1660 TI is the full one, not that half Max Q stuff...Overall love this Laptop!!

All around great laptop for the money, even at the MSRP of 1699.99. I have to really dig to find any concerns. Definitely a good "mid-to-high end" gaming laptop.
Pros:
super thin + light, that 144hz panel tho, good battery life (for a gaming laptop), great specs for the price, keyboard is tactile and functional, trackpad is responsive and large
Cons:
can run a little hot (even under seemingly little load), charger input location is a little awkward, speakers are located at the bottom of the unit

Perfect laptop for a student who do causal work and also gaming same time, the 91wh battery can last through day without any problem, msi dragon center can also put fans on completely silent which is so nice for classroom and library. This thing is also a beast on gaming performance. It does need teak a little bit with dragon center to balance performance and noise, but really at least it allows you to do it, most of the other manufacturers block the option to custom fan curve.

I absolutely love the design. I bought this device assuming it would be used for video and music editing, but also wanted to get into simulation games like Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo. I bought the device before the worldwide pandemic and ended up using this device as my work from home device and couldn't be more pleased. When playing games, the top of the device does run hot. There are gaming modes that can help with cooling, but it should be noted that when doing so, the fan is loud. Search Reddit for more info on this device and the heat issue as it's not a dealbreaker, but probably worth knowing.

Awesome Portable Laptop for Gaming!

This is the best laptop I have ever owned (and most expensive). The overall quality of the build is sturdy, and the hinge has a perfect resistance—it doesn’t fall when carried with the lip open and you can lift it with one finger. Overall, this laptop has a premium feel while still being very lightweight and portable. However, the front vent under the screen flexes a little when the power button is pressed.
Gaming on this computer is awesome—for a laptop. I am able to run all current Triple-A titles on high, or better graphical settings; while still utilizing the beautiful 144Hz display to the full potential. I do not recommend gaming while on battery, however. The system automatically throttles down the performance quite a bit in order to preserve battery. Also, the fans are quite loud when the laptop is under load, so it might be worth it to use headphones while gaming if you find it distracting.
The added features of extra ports and an RGB keyboard—run by SteelSeries—make this laptop even more usable and enjoyable. An onboard ethernet port enables a direct connection to your network if you want the fastest online gaming possible. I personally utilize the ethernet, HDMI, and a few of the USB ports to run a home theater/gaming console setup at home. (It works great in this configuration, but the fans are pretty loud.) The SteelSeries app that controls the color of your keyboard is fun and easy to use; however, from what I can tell, there is no way to automatically assign user accounts to different profiles. If you had another person assigned to the laptop, they would have to manually change the keyboard settings in the app by elevating to administrative privileges by default.
I highly recommend this product to anyone in the market for a gaming laptop at this price point.

This laptop is awesome. It's thin, light and doesn't scream "I'm a gamer". That being said, the machine, when pushed, is LOUD and HOT. I also have a little light bleed from the display that I don't like but it's not very noticable after a week or so of using it.
I would recommend this laptop for everyone!

I purchased this laptop to use as a balanced light gaming machine that could serve as a day use laptop without being plugged in. It is well refined and thought out. A pleasure to type on and easy on the eyes. It has the power to game and the battery to last all day for light work and browsing. If you want a sleek, refined, powerful laptop, look no further.

This computer was an upgrade from an early 2013 Macbook pro and WOW it is definitely an upgrade. I regret not switching to Windows sooner.
This computer is fast, sleek, and takes any game like a champ. I'll also be using this for school so I opted to buy the warranty from Best Buy incase I spill water on it or something.
I expect this computer to last me a long time.
Pros:
The display is beautiful
Keyboard is nice and colorful
Awesome specs for the price (got it on sale)
Runs all the games I've played (pubg, Apex, etc) at max settings with EASE
Black and gold looks downright mean and sexy in my opinion. Perfect for school - it's mature looking and doesn't scream "gamer"
As someone who is probably around a 7/10 when it comes to being tech savvy, I really enjoy dragon center. It's super easy to use to control fans and processing power. Remember, I came form a 2013 Mac, where a 2 year old can use MacOS efficiently. Windows takes at least a few brain cells for some tasks.
Cons:
When playing games, this 9th gen processor gets HOT. Out of the box, PUBG was maxing at around 94 and averaging 90C. Too high for my liking. I'd say it is absolutely essential to undervolt this puppy. I used throttlestop and now my temps are around 70-75C for demanding games like PUBG and around 35C for idle. I undervolted -195.3mV! Crazy!

While I had planned to get a practical computer for school I was lead astray by the sleek design and lighted keyboard. It was a great way to go however. So far everything is going great with the computer. I love the customization options and how fast and efficient it is for my schooling. Having the option to play the games I love at the same time is great as well.

I am a student who needed a new laptop went I went through the process of researching a new computer. I am also a gamer and had my preference of priorities in specs, but new that school use had to come into play (pun intended) at some point. The problem a lot of gaming laptops have is their lack of battery power. I have yet to fully charge this rig and I still get close to 6 hours on battery saver when I do. MSI did a good job balancing performance and utilitarian needs on this one. This is a solid deal for the price. When you do get it, I would suggest you get comfortable with the Dragon Center. The biggest downside that I have found is how fast it overheats when you start to game. That can be avoided by learning to utilize the fan controls. They don't always have to run on Cooler Boost, but knowing when and why will get you far. The only only other issue I have found is the oversized touchpad. It extends to the point of forcing me to offset my right hand in order to type on the keyboard. If I don't then I will hit the touchpad and any number of events will happen (I had to retype that last sentence because I touched the pad; the irony.) All in all, this is a great machine and you'll enjoy the purchase.

Bought this laptop because of how lightweight it is as well as being able to play some games. I am very pleased with the fact that it can play any game so far that i have tried. The lightweight and sleek design make it great to take on the go. Would highly recommend MSI products and specifically this laptop.

After a month of owning this computer, I can say that I am impressed with its performance. It is incredibly light and compact, yet has serious power in its specs. It is a tad louder than I would have hoped (fan noise), but that is to be expected with small gaming laptops. I am satisfied with my purchase.

While there are a lot of pros for this laptop, here are the ones that I was looking for while buying a gaming laptop that this provides.
Pros:
- Non-gaming battery life (6-7 hours by lowering cpu boost clock, using integrated graphics, screen brightness to 50%)
- Aesthetics (One of the thinnest and professional looking gaming laptops out there)
- Decent Thermals (Ok thermals while gaming considering how small the laptop is)
- Great trackpad
- Great keyboard
- Thin bezels
Cons:
- Fingerprint magnet
- Upside down motherboard (Added a second ssd to upgrade the storage, definitely a pain to upgrade this laptop if you aren’t familiar with tech)

I extremely love this laptop. From the specs to the looks of the laptop. I feel like every penny is worth it whenever I play fortnite or Ark survival evolved. I was only use to have a office laptop so upgrading to this is a huge Benefits for me. It’s been a month since I bought this laptop and I haven’t seen anything wrong with it ever since. I do recommend to buy a separate cooling pad because this laptop can heat up quickly in which will damage your components. I can’t expect much cuz it is a laptop and every laptop heats up that crazy because it’s all jam pack together. Also the fan can be very loud as well in which I don’t mind because like I said, it is a laptop after all. In addition, there isn’t much memory in this laptop so I’ll say it only hold up to about three heavy games.
In conclusion, it is a well built laptop and I enjoy every seconds of it. Best Christmas gift to myself ever :).

At first i was nervous about spending that much on a laptop since i have never owned an msi laptop. after owning and using it for a while i am very happy with my purchase. I greatly appreciate all the provided documentation of software features such as documentation for the MSI dragon center which allows you to easily tweak every aspect of your machine from the lite keyboard, fan speed and overclocking. All hardware on the computer works as it should i greatly enjoy video gaming with the GTX 1660Ti and it dedicated memory. with this powerful set up the laptop does tend to get very hot with extended game play and the fans at full spool. The heat is towards the speakers at the top of the keyboard area out of the way of your hand so game play does not become uncomfortable. The heat is typical for gaming laptops and in now way is it a deal breaker nor does it devalue the machine in my opinion

The keyboard is great, however when I am typing the size of the track pad makes it so that I frequently click without meaning to. The specs of this laptop are perfect for gaming but the fans can get occasionally loud. Overall, this is a fantastic gaming laptop for its price. I am looking forward to taking this laptop up to college with me!
