Terrific looking laptop and is very fast and not too loud. It’s not a light laptop, but It’s not heavy for its size. The only issue I had with it is that customer support wasn’t helpful with a battery issue I was having, because they didn’t understand MSI’s own software for the system. I had an issue where the battery wouldn’t charge more than 60% even though it was plugged in. Customer service wasn’t particularly helpful in resolving the issue. I was getting ready to return the computer and had it reset to factory settings when the battery started to fully charge. This time, I realized that the it was a proprietary MSI battery life saving software that was intentionally stopping the charging above 60%. It was odd that customer service didn’t know this and tell me to just to change the settings in the software. I checked the Windows 10 battery settings but the battery setting at issue was buried inside the MSI-specific software that loads on start-up. The computer thus wasn’t defective, but did have some proprietary software that was configured in a way that I wasn’t expecting or was aware of. Would have saved rime if customer service had a better understanding of their own product.

A very lightweight and thin laptop that provides gaming on the go with a GTX1660. Not the best gaming graphics card you can get, but anything larger would most likely require even more cooling. It also has Thunderbolt 3 if you need to expand later. Speaking of cooling, this gets LOUD under load. Pretty typical with this type of computer, but I was hoping for better with the lower end graphics card. Keyboard is excellent although can be a little hard to type on (but still better than the Razer Blade). The track pad is extra large and responsive, but I wonder if it is too large. My palms sometimes hit it when typing. Finally, while build quality is good, the materials are just OK. I have not really had a chance to workout the screen, but from what I used, it seemed pretty good. Overall, if you are looking for mid tier gaming on the go, this is a good option, especially when it is on sale.

    Loving this laptop

Tried a less expensive gaming style laptop but I got what I paid for and returned it within 24 hours. Spent a little time looking some more and this MSI went on sale briefly and I purchased it. Lots of power and looks good as well. I have an HP Spectre and this MSI rivals the HP for looks, weight, and style! All the rest you'd expect is there. It doesn't have a touch screen but I don't see that as a drawback. It has everything else - great screen & color, keyboard is very smooth and the SteelSeries software allows for some really cool keyboard lighting effects. I love using this laptop and would recommend it even to someone who isn't necessarily looking for a gaming machine but needs something stylish and powerful. Battery life is good for such a powerhouse machine.

I have owned this laptop for a little over 2 weeks now and all I can say is that I am sincerely impressed by this beast's performance. This laptop is a huge upgrade than what I have owned for the past 8 years and I am glad I switched over. All the games that I leisurely play run silky smooth and I'm very impressed. This granted, I bought it on sale for $200 off with the student discount, I still think it is worth every penny buying it at full price. The only gripe I have against this laptop is that the hinges are made out of plastic and they can sometimes pop out of it's socket but that can be easily fixed by flattening out the laptop at 180 degrees and fiddling with it until it snaps back into place. I love that this laptop has great battery life and can last up to a day without any problems.

Went in not knowing what I was going to buy, this one really stood out. Amazing amount of power for it's size. Great build quality and finish. Fast render times for premiere and after effects. Fans have a nice low tone to them...sound like a white noise machine. Being able to change the color of individual keyboard keys is more useful than I thought it would be. Note, doesn't have a number pad.

Excellent CPU (i7-9750), good GPU (Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti), excellent construction, excellent weight, excellent display. A lot has been written about this laptop. You cannot get a better CPU at the moment. What makes this a gaming laptop is the GPU. A 1660 Ti is approximately equal to a 1070 of the previous Nvidia generation, that is to say, a very good GPU for a laptop. This laptop has a 144 Hz display works with a G-Sync Monitor (which in my case is a 165 Hz display). Between the GPU and built-in or external display, you can play most games well over 60 FPS, buttery smooth. You can get a better GPU but you really start to pay through the nose as you move up Nvidia's line, and this GPU should last for many years.

Upon looking at this laptop all I could think is "wow". The form factor of this laptop is so thin, so sleek, it's absolutely beautiful. The components seem to be well though out so I'll make this review easy by making a list of the pros and the few "cons" I find about this laptop. Pros: 1. The size is amazing a. It is extremely small and compact. It's just a tad bigger than my wife's MacBook Pro b. The weight of this laptop is perfect. You don't expect it to be this light when you pick it up. 2. The graphics card is no slouch a. I know some people would rather go for the RTX 2060 because "muh ray tracing" but I don't play games that use that. I would like to wait until all the kinks get wrinkled out (1 or 2 generations after these initial 2000 series cards). b. It handles Destiny 2 like a champ with consistent 90-120 FPS maxed out settings 3. The screen is fantastic. a. The refresh rate is wonderful. The 3ms response time is perfect for those FPS like CS:GO b. I played Destiny on the laptop next to a buddy of mine that plays on his PlayStation and he asked me where he could buy one. 4. The trackpad is so smooth. a. This being an honest review, initially the trackpad bothered me initially because of the size, placement, and the sensitivity. However, somehow I can rest part of my palm on it and still type without any unwanted clicks and I am typing this review perfectly. b. This trackpad is so silky smooth to touch it's very hard to imagine. It's almost like my wife's laptop but bigger. 5. The Keyboard is a pleasure a. I have read reviews out there that complain about the keyboard because the key strokes are too, shallow? That's nit picking in my opinion because although this isn't like a desktop keyboard the keys have a satisfying "click" to them as I type. It's b. The RGB on this keyboard is amazing with the SteelSeries app. You can customize seemingly ANYTHING you want. I enjoy the stock templates SteelSeries offers like FPS, MMO, etc... 6. Battery life - made for your life a. The battery life on this thing compared to other laptops out there is amazing. I think of how much I just grab my laptop out of my bag and sit on the couch just browsing websites or working on some reports without needing to charge my laptop. b. I cannot give specific numbers because I honestly haven't timed it. I know gaming eats up the battery like no other and limits your framerate to 30fps but, I need a desk to game anyways so I just go to my office when I want to play. Just using this around the house Is a pleasure without having to worry about the laptop dying. c. I don't sacrifice screen brightness or illuminated keys when off of the charger. 7. Web cam isn't looking at my nostrils a. This is more of a gripe with other laptop manufactures because I DO sometimes use the webcam when I'm away from my family. I shouldn't have to worry about them looking at my buggers when we are weeks apart. 8. Overall Frame- a. This laptop is absolutely sturdy be all means. I don't get what people are doing to try to get their laptops to creak and make noises but so far I have no complaints on that. b. The aluminum body is such a pleasure to touch and although a "fingerprint magnet" it really does feel premium. Cons: 1. This laptop can get HOT when gaming a. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone but with such a small form factor and such a powerful CPU and GPU heat is a big gripe of mine with this laptop. I have underclocked my CPU and I prop up my laptop when gaming (put a small book on the back side). It helps with the heat a bit but, I am going to have to look into a thermal repasting soon. 2. Fans - Is this thing going to take off of a runway? a. To help with heat disputation while gaming I do use the coolerboost on the MSI app. This bad boy get LOUD. Be ready to play with the advanced fan settings profile and some comfy headphones when playing very CPU and GPU demanding games. b. I did have to return my first GS65 due to a weird clicking noise when the second fan turned on. A few mentions that I wouldn't consider either pro or con because it just doesn't bother me; 1. A/C plug placement is on the right side -I've read other reviews that say it bothers them but, It's never bothered me playing any games. 2. Sound - I typically use headphones while watching movies so as to not bother the people around me. It seems OK though. 3. Upside-down motherboard- I think this is one of the things I wrestled with the most trying to decide whether or not to purchase the laptop. I know how to take apart a laptop and I'm not scared of some ribbons and yes, I am aware short screw goes into short hole. It may be a deal breaker for some that are. If It were up to me I wouldn't WANT to open up the laptop but since I want to replace the thermal pasting anyways, I'll do it. It doesn't bother me either way but I know this could be a deal breaker for some. Non of this should void your warranty by the way. This laptop seems to be the best all around laptop in the market in my opinion. You get the reliability of MSI, a great graphics card, and such a beautifully slim form factor. It's compact and you can take it on the go without having to lug around a giant power adaptor while still being able to game. Good luck with your decision and I hope I helped with it.

I really like the slim sleek design. The "Stealth" asthetic was a major selling point for me, as there are no red accents or sharp angles that have become so common in the "gamery" looking laptops. The only RGB present is the keyboard backlighting, which can be set to a static color. The 1660ti can hold its own for 1080p gaming, but it does get pretty warm in this form factor. Therefore the fans can really spin up under gaming load. I prefer to raise the rear of the laptop up a bit to aid with air intake while gaming or performing other high performance tasks. The 144hz screen is great and the keyboard feels very nice to your on. The glass track pad has a very premium feel, but is very large and it's easy to accidentally register a touch while typing. Thankfully the track pad can quickly be toggled off via a function key when using a separate mouse. Overall I'm very happy with my investment.

The MSI GS65 is a powerful laptop that looks professional. As well as being an avid gamer, I am also an aerospace engineering student. Eventually, I decided on this laptop. With its 6-core CPU and 1660ti Max-Q, it can handle the most demanding of workloads. The 144hz "IPS-level" display left me skeptical of color accuracy and viewing angles. But after seeing it in person, I can tell you the colors are excellent and do not distort at wide viewing angles. As far as backlight bleed concerned, it is barely noticeable on a black screen in a dark room. Better than many IPS screens I have seen in that regard. At max brightness, it is usable in direct sunlight, although it is more comfortably be used in the shade. The display does not have Nvidia G-sync but I see this as an overall positive. The lack of G-sync not only keeps the price down but also allows for Nvidia Optimus to function. Nvidia Optimus seamlessly switches between the less powerful but more power-efficient Intel integrated graphics and the more powerful but more power-hungry Nvidia GPU. This is great because while you are doing mundane tasks such as browsing the internet or editing a word document the Intel Integrated Graphics are used which significantly increases battery life. When doing more strenuous tasks such as playing games or 3D rendering, the laptop intelligently switches to the Nvidia GPU. The led positioned next to the power button indicates which GPU is being used. Orange for Nvidia, white for Intel. The screen does not even flicker when it switches and so far I have had no problems with the technology. (I will update this review if I encounter any.) Battery life is something that was important to me as a student. On the integrated graphics, the battery lasts the advertised 8 hours. Under demanding workloads, the battery lasts about a third of the advertised time. The charger is exceptionally slim which makes carrying it around less of a hassle. The first negative point arises from its thin form factor. Under heavy loads, the CPU reaches over 90C and thermal throttles within seconds. This hampers the performance of the device significantly. This can be remedied by undervolting the CPU. If you have the expertise I would highly recommend undervolting this laptop. I achieved a -150mv offset on the 9750H which decreased temperatures remarkably and allowed it to reach its full potential. Undervolting will also result in slightly increased battery life due to the lessened power draw of the CPU. The laptop is not overly bloated with third-party software. The individually addressable RGB LED keyboard can be easily managed in the SteelSeries Engine software. SteelSeries Engine works well and has a myriad of pre-made effects and allows for a lot of customization. The keyboard feels excellent but is missing a number pad, something that personally does not bother me. The speakers sound fine and although they face downward they sound fair. MSI Dragon Center is great for setting fan speeds and a few power options. Dragon Center has a few premade fan profiles and performance setting which you can customize and assign to your own profiles. The fan profiles can be adjusted for the GPU and CPU fan. The auto fan profile will always have the CPU fan spinning even at idle. I created my own fan profile that allows the CPU fan to turn off when the laptop is idle. The fans are very quiet until about 4000rpm where they get noticeably loud (about 50db) and under full synthetic load, the fans sound like a jet taking off (about 60db). Again, undervolting can help keep your system temperatures lower so that the fans won't have to spin up quite so much. Overall, this is a great laptop that offers a good combination of performance and battery life in a slim design. The CPU can get quite hot, but if you have the expertise, undervolting can solve this problem.

I write a lot of reviews. A ton, but I never written one for this because all of the other reviews are right. There is nothing but greatness to review here. This is an amazing laptop MSI have made here giving a nice price to performance ratio. It’s downright sleek and beautiful. MSI crafted a really thin laptop and while it’s old by design at this point; it’s still looks amazing over black and red laptops. I’m not going to go into depth here but the GS65 run AAA titles like a dream. Resident Evil, Forza Horizon 3 & 4, Control, Borderlands 3, Devil May Cry 5 all just looks so good on the 144hz screen with frame rates that are blazing. I’m a single player person normally PC games so graphics are sharp and crisp. Can connect with HDMI to give yourself a console like experience. It can handle most games out today at ultra or high with a breeze. The RGB keyboard is on a per key basis so you can create so many colors on the steelseries keyboard. Also there is enough I/O here for all your gaming needs. Before this I was using a PC with a 4th gen Intel i7 so an upgrade was long over due but this laptop feels super speedy. It took us a long time to get gaming laptops this beautiful but I’m glad we are here. Speakers are louder than any laptop I’ve owned before. Downsides on what I think MSI missed out here is there is No Windows hello, Not many FN keys to take advantage of the laptop, No thunderbolt 3 (Needed this for eGPU if you wanted to prolong the laptop life), and the biggest drawback is a flipped motherboard. Also you may want to undervolt this thing. All in all I love MSI and their products. This one is one of the sleekest laptops I’ve ever seen and owned so I’m completely happy.

I'm a developer, not a gamer. I bought this laptop because of it's top specs and light weight. Another important feature was it's matte screen, which is easier on the eyes when working long hours. This laptop has met all of my expectations. It has a solid, quality feel. The keyboard is very nice with large keys, easy to read letters, and a good feel when the keys are pressed. I have had no problems with the track pad due to it's size. The screen is beautiful. Out of the box, it ran a little hot and the battery life was short, but tweaking the settings corrected both of these shortcomings.

I purchased this for my son for college. He wanted a notebook that would work as a gaming computer for his roommate while my son used his gaming desktop. During classes he takes it to school and he uses it for homework, running office and the entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite. This machine is very fast for ordinary tasks, gaming and video editing using Premiere. It is light and beautifully constructed. The screen is crisp and bright and the machine has a Steel Series keyboard complete with RGB lighting. + it has a great compliment of ports. Altogether great machine at a great price.

I had no issues so far. I think it's a great laptop for daily schoolwork, running simple simulations and gaming. Only downside is the price. It is relatively expensive; however, the build quality is way better compared to its counterparts. It allows me to do some basic engineering simulations without overheating and the overall performance is very smooth. Also, as a soft gamer, I really like the display. Some games might cause heating issues, but the cooler boost fan speed cools it down immediately. Only problem with the fan is that it is a little noisy at the cooler boost setting, but I don't think there is any other laptop model can solve the heating issue silently. Overall, it's a great product. I definitely recommend this model although it's a little pricey.

I purchased this laptop to use for school to run engineering programs. This laptop seems plenty powerful enough to do exactly what I need it to. The weight is not too bad. The only things I've noticed is that there is a pretty good amount of light bleed. I actually had to return the first one I got because of this issue. The second one that I got inn't as bad but it is still a noticeable amount on darker screens which is unfortunate. Aside from that, the laptop seems to slowdown substantially when trying to create new folders for some reason. I haven't been able to figure the reason for this out yet. Hopefully it doesn't turn into anything more later on. These two issues aside, the laptop seems great!

The overall build quality of the laptop is amazing. The steelseries keyboard has a perfect feel to it as well as the laptop display. If you are looking to purchase this laptop for gaming, I would say that it is one of the best on the market. However, the pricing of the laptop seems to be exaggerated. Additionally, though the lap top may look heavy at first, it is actually pretty light and easily portable. The only issue I would say with mobility is how heavy the charger is, and you need it since the battery life is around 2-3 hours. Overall, this laptop has a perfect feel to it. I would personally recommend it to others who are looking for a laptop to do some work as well as gaming.
