A Beautiful Piece of Gaming Technology

There's not much else I can say about the MSI GT80 Titan SLI, other than it's just that, a Titan. Starting with aesthetics, the Titan sports the typical Red/Black color scheme that most gaming laptops do, though it doesn't try to be gimmicky or over-the-top with it. It looks simple, and pulls off the aggressive "gamer-look" quite well. On the front there's nothing more than the brushed-aluminum finish and the red accents, accompanied by the MSI logo, which all light up when powered on.
On the inside, there's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL full Cherry MX Brown mechanical keyboard which feels absolutely amazing to type on, delivering great tactile response with each key stroke. Since the keyboard is a full mechanical keyboard and takes up the entire 2-inch thickness of the laptop, the touchpad has actually been squeezed off to the right and rotated ninety degrees, which is actually easier to get used to than you'd think. Not only that, but the touchpad, in its odd orientation functions as a Num Pad as well! Once you touch the Num lock key, the touchpad lights up into a full 10-key Num Pad. Unfortunately, the touch and Num pad cannot be used simultaneously. The screen, which measures to a gigantic 18.4 inches of matte beauty. Despite the insane screen size, the resolution is still only 1080x1920. However, it is not as big of a deal as you might think. Since the Titan is so gargantuan, the distance you have to sit whilst using the machine doesn't make the resolution a big deal!
To the specs, the Intel i7 6820HK is a BEAST of a processor, and, while it gets kind of hot, still performs amazingly!
For storage, the duel 128 GB SSDs in RAID 0 are unreal when it comes to speed; booting the computer takes less than 10 seconds from a shut down (However, the first boot takes about 30 seconds, which still isn't too bad, considering it's just the first boot), Google Chrome opens almost instantly, and everything else runs more than fast enough! As for the 1 TB HDD, there's not much to say about it, other than 1 TB is MORE than enough for any documents, or games you're going to load into this thing. Lastly, the GPU. Or GPUs. This thing's DUEL 970ms in SLI are possibly the most beautiful thing ever. It SMASHES through games like they're nothing, destroying GTA V on high settings at an average of 90-100 FPS, and for those who care, Minecraft runs at an avg. of 200 FPS and above on maxed-out settings. While, yes, they do get hot under load, if you set the MSI Shift Mode to Comfort, or even Sport, they should come down in temp. If you're going ALL OUT on a game that demands the absolute best graphics and you feel like you're cooking something on your GPUs, just hit the automatic fan-speed button. It'll sound like a jet-engine, but it brings temperatures down REALLY quickly. Overall, the Duel 970m in SLI should be able to handle most games to come without breaking a sweat. (There is also the more expensive versions with Duel 980m in SLI and even DESKTOP 980s in SLI, which would perform even better, though they cost a few hundred, and even a thousand, dollars more).
For a summary, I'll just list all the pros and cons I've seen after using this system for about 2.5 weeks.
Pros:
- The keyboard is just flat-out better than anything you'll find on another laptop. Simple.
- The screen is matte, has insane viewing-angles, and gets pretty bright if you need it.
- The SSDs in RAID 0 are extremely fast, and 256 GB is more than enough for anything you want to load quickly.
- Obviously, the duel 970ms in SLI crush games at high to maximum settings, and should handle things quite well for future games
- The retail packaging comes with an included wrist-rest, mouse-pad, backpack, and an ADORABLE little dragon keychain
- Plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of ports. Five USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out, Thunderbolt 3, Display port, Ethernet, a DVD drive, mic and headphone ports, Hi-Fi out, and a pretty deep SD card slot.
- The speakers on this thing, man...The speakers can get more than loud enough for anything you, or your neighbors next door, want to hear. The subwoofer on the bottom also sounds very nice, with deep, loud bass. The Nahimic program that comes pre-installed can help optimize the sound quality. It sounds like just another pre-installed program that we'd probably delete, but no. It works very well.
And now for cons:
-There's no getting around it, the GT80 Titan is INSANELY BIG! Be prepared to have a lot of space on your desk.
- Coming in tangent with size, the Titan is also pretty heavy for a laptop, at 9.9 pounds...And that's not even counting the A/C power brick, which is just that...A literal brick. It, on its own, weighs a good 3-4 pounds. However, it is not the heaviest thing in the world, and I have no problems with it, or the size for that matter.
- When under load, the Titan can get pretty loud, especially if you set the fans to full speed. However, if you're gaming, it's most likely you'll be using headphones. I, personally, have not had any issues with fan noise. It's surprisingly quiet, believe it or not.
- While the GT80 Titan comes with a backpack, it is just not ideal to carry around like a normal laptop. If you are someone who travels or moves around a lot with their laptop...Just prepare for back pains. Have a chiropractor at the ready. (Im obviously kidding, but it's still not an ideal laptop to move around with)
- This con also goes to people who move their laptop around a lot. The BATTERY LIFE. There's no other way to put it. It's awful. However, that is to be expected when you're running all of these intense components. And anyway, if you're buying this for gaming, it's more than likely you'll be at a desk most of the time, plugged into the wall anyway. If you're curious, though, the battery lasts about 1 1/2 hours while gaming. 2-3 while browsing.
- Lastly, the A/C power brick. It's huge, but it's powerful, supplying the GT80 Titan with 330 watts. However, I keep the brick out of sight, so it is not that big of a deal.
(I'd also like to point out, if you haven't used an MSI laptop before, you might notice that the battery, once fully charged, will say "100% plugged in, not charging" This is normal! The laptop just stops charging at 100%, lets the battery dip to about 90% and then charges again. This is so the battery life is prolonged. A very smart move by MSI!)
And to conclude:
The MSI GT80 Titan SLI is an absolute beast of a piece of gaming machinery. While it is not the portable kind like other MSI products, such as the GS60 Ghost Pro, the Titan makes up for it in sheer gaming performance, rivaling that of even desktop computers. Whether it be gaming, or just light browsing, the Titan will still definitely out-perform most other laptops. Another thing to love are the accessories, such as the wrist-rest, mouse-pad and backpack. They work great, are extremely comfortable to use, even if the mouse-pad is a tad large. The Titan might not be for everyone, but it is, indeed a computer for those who don't care about size, or portability, and just want a great time doing what it was made for, and to do it on a machine that has will last.

I purchased this computer for the raised keyboard and the largest viewing screen I could find. I am a little older and the larger screen is important to me. I don't work well with the flat keys on a regular laptop so I am really enjoying typing on this one.

This is an awesome computer it does everything that I ask of it from high end gaming to checking my e-mail. My only issue is that it is built to be 100% up-gradable, yet I cant figure out how to open the top plate to install more RAM. True it is pricey and bulky, but I enjoy that. I bought this machine to be able to game like at my desk top and still move it from the desk to the couch to the bed with no issues.

Laptop had black screen after 10 days playing video game. MSI doesn't pay shipping the laptop to them for repair ($96 UPS with insurance).
