The First Doctor's Last Story

In failing health, William Hartnell had to relinquish his role as The Doctor, and this was his final adventure. This is also the first story to introduce the concept of regeneration, the ability for a Time Lord to escape death by creating a new body.
The fourth and final episode is, sadly, missing from the BBC archives, but has been recreated in animation. The original reconstruction of episode four that appeared on the original VHS release is also available as a bonus feature.

While this may not be the best Doctor Who episode ever made, it's an important one for a few reasons. First, we meet the Cybermen. Not as creepy as later appearances, but still effective. Second, we say goodbye to William Hartnell as the concept of the Doctor regenerating is introduced. The special features are well worth the time, especially "Frozen Out" and the all to brief Hartnell interview from 1966. Also worth noting is the fact that this is a 2-disc release, not 3-disc as this item is listed.
