Application is super user friendly anyone can setup. Limited in functionality. Gear looks slick, and cameras are pretty decent. Using the web app is easy too. Just some features I don't like. You can't turn a camera off. Also whenever motion is detected when the lighting is low, the camera gleans red. Could do without that. Doesn't use regular batteries so special purchase/trip to get those. Setup was super easy though, but hate that there is not a built in microphone in the product. Would like to be able to do continuous recording, but I am limited in the amount of seconds that the recording will actually take place. Might have waited for sound or gotten something else that did sound as well.

Great quality, motion detect lag time

I've had this camera for a few months now, the battery is still at 80% at optimal settings. The video quality is still very good at this setting. I use this camera for two things: to watch my pet while I'm at work and to watch for folks intruding in my backyard. For months now I was unhappy because the default settings only allowed 10 seconds of recording time but I've just now found out I'm simply an idiot. If you create a custom "rule" you can change the motion sensitivity, the record time up to 2 mins, and how to be notified. This is amazing. I've seen the gas guy come to do meter readings and I've seen the backyard plants almost die during a storm. My only complaints would be the couple seconds delay to record after detecting motion and the motion detection distance. I placed my camera 20 feet high to cover the pathway leading up to the door. It only detects movement from roughly 20 feet away from the door, then takes a couple seconds to start recording which can miss recording a burglar if the person is walking fast or running. There is also the use of the Arlo website or the Arlo app for monitoring and recording purposes. If there's a video you like, be sure to save it before the 7th day afterwards because it will be erased as the days go on. The free trial of Arlo basic only allows a recordings withing a 7 day span, the 8th day will erase the first day, ect.

I like that its wireless and super easy to setup. From start to finish installing base router + two cameras it took me just under 2 hours. Would have taken less if cameras worked at original angles. Leading into what I don't like. I didn't like that camera best picks up motion from the side vs head on. Creating slight challenge when placing cameras. I also don't like that the camera records 10 seconds of motion, which is delayed by 3-5 seconds. You can make up for this by loading the app to view live motion, but the alerts you get on your device are only 10 seconds. I need at least 30 and can't find adjustments in settings. For roughly $100 per camera and the simple slwireless setup, this product will serve its purpose, as I use it to know when kids are home while I'm at work. The mobile app and alerts sent to my phone when motion is triggered & being able to turn/on and off with my smart phone is intuitive. I just wish it had a few more features on capturing more than 10 seconds of delayed motion? Perhaps that's what you get if you sign up for Arlos premium monthly subscription. From what I gather, the subscription just gives you more than 7 days of stored motion recording. (Which the average user doesn't need) If this review helped, mark it below. Thanks!

After doing quite a bit of research on the Arlo system, between articles and non-bias reviews, I figured I'd go for it, because why not? You can return it if you hate it anyway... My husband, who is NOT tech-computer handy was a bit leery of helping me set this system up. He just told me a few minutes ago that he was surprised and very happy that it went so well and wasn't difficult at all. About the battery life - I've only had it set up for a day, however these cameras are activated by motion. If you have the camera pointing somewhere where there will be motion ALL DAY LONG then you will defiantly drain the batteries. You can also set motion sensitivity, so for instance, if you have plants moving in the breeze, you can change the sensitivity to essentially filter that out so it doesn't record when the plant is moving. So, if you are using it like we are, to detect and record motion when there isn't usually motion, then you'll be fine battery wise according to the many other reviews on other websites. Also, the other reviewer that said the batteries are $10 each, clearly doesn't know how to do a google search for products. You can get these batteries for about $1 each when you buy in bulk - each camera takes 4 batteries, so yeah, it will be $4 to replace them every 4-6 months, but that's not bad considering you didn't have to hire someone to drill holes in your house and run wires and all that. Cloud storage - the fact that this system doesn't require the use of a DVR or computer is cool. At first, I thought that it was weird and I would want more control over my own storage space, but it's actually really nice to not have to deal with another device. The system does require you to hook up it's wifi hub, but it's sleek and small and just plug it into your existing system and go. I will add though, that my existing routers are in the basement though, and when I hooked this up initially in the basement, by the time I got the cameras outside and to the back of my property, the signal wasn't strong enough. When I brought the hub onto the ground floor it worked absolutely fine. The pipes and other metals in the basement aren't too kind to wifi. Overall my household thinks this is great, my non computer savvy husband finds the app easy to use and so do my kids. I am very glad I made the purchase!

    Can Be Perfect

This is definitely the a great compliment to your home security system. Its wireless. It records to a cloud. Its small. They can easily be moved from one spot to another, very flexible. Battery life is decent. I have a couple of months and batteries are still full. Easy set-up. FREE cloud storage for up to 5 cameras. Clear images. Motion sensing. Weatherproof. Now for some cons....motion detection timing for the camera to start recording can be iffy at times. Sometimes the recording starts several seconds too late. Its sort of a trial by error. You really need to have the camera in a good spot and play with the settings. When you can get it to near a perfect set-up its awesome. Not everyone can get the system to their needs. Night Vision is only 15ft but even thats a far stretch. The recording is helped best if the camera was positioned where there is light in the area. Now I'm speaking of experience while using these as outdoor cameras of course. I've been having issues with the Web UI viewing the cameras, however the mobile apps work perfectly. Appears I'm not the only one having the issue with the Web UI either based on the forums I've seen, however Netgear appears to be working on it. They have been good at releasing updates however but am still waiting for this fix. Overall its a good compliment to a home security system. I like it because it works for me and I don't have to run wires throughout my house. To me, the positives outweight negatives but its different for everyone. I do recommend however.

I wanted a basic security camera system that wasn't going to cost me an arm & a leg that I could use when I go on vacation (I work from home so a subscription service would be wa$teful). This 4-camera system fits the bill. The images are high-quality, and the modes/rules allow for the recording flexibility I need. The system was simple to set up; within minutes. My only issue is the long delay or lag time from the time someone enters the field of view until the time recording starts for my outdoor cameras; fear I may miss important footage.... Hoping future firmware updates will fix that. Otherwise, this would get 5 stars.

I love this camera and the home base station (like a router size). It was quick and easy to set up. Their website is excellent and very knowledgeable when it comes to their products. The only gripe I may have is the price. It's really not all that bad but when you go to purchase add on cameras it's almost the same as buying this set. I would suggest if you have the extra money to go ahead and get the set with the most cameras in it. It'll be cheaper for you that way in the long run. Trust me when I say that you'll definitely want to add more cameras to your security system. OH and you don't have to go and buy a DVR to save everything on. Just review all of your videos recorded each day to keep what you want and delete what you don't. Then just download your "keepers" to your device. Then you can either keep them or send them to your cloud accounts. OR both if you choose. No need to subscribe and pay for their cloud service if you do what I just explained. Netgear is a very reliable company with great products. Exactly why I decided on this security surveilance item. Just as I excpected. You can't go wrong with this system!

First off - It is a truly simple system to set up. However, I found very quickly some limitations that you'll need to decide if you're all in, or not. The first is, if the camera is in a high traffic area, you will need to buy a larger Arlo subscription plan (cloud space) for your image storage. the next thing, you'll want to buy a charger and 2200mh rechargeable 123 batteries. I have now done both, and feel slightly better about the investment. There are still a couple of idiosyncrasies that I'm fighting with. The biggest is the detection area for a camera is difficult to manage as is the sensitivity. The system draw backs are directly limited by the fact that the cameras are battery operated. First, no pre-trigger recording (5 seconds would be nice). The IR leds for night viewing are virtually worthless; not bright enough for any reasonable distance. All in all, I like the concept and the execution was pretty good. I'm all in, so I'll continue to figure these things out.

Good camera, need to subscribe for more space, you can record longer and take pictures on it, set the motion detector, good night vision, the batteries that came in some were not at 100% some were at 50%. But other then that’s it’s good, you can not set a motion detection zone on it, was my first security camera system and it’s super easy to set up! 4 stars for a few thing the motion detection would help a lot, kinda pricy but it’s a wireless system, easy mount comes with some stuff for that . Over all a good buy

I never really leave any reviews, but since i purchased this product and it has had such great reviews i figured i would share my personal findings. I bought this Arlo system in August 2015 and it started out great. Easy install and great picture. I even caught a theft happening in my yard. The easy of access was very easy and never had a problem with it. Now that it has been a few months of use I am not to impressed with it. I have had one camera replaced due to a defect and now I have two other cameras messing up on me. The app now lags and sometimes won't even load up even with my system reloaded several times and each camera reloaded still I am having issues. I have looked up and found I am not the only one having the same issues that I have with these cameras. The app has changed and has been updated several times to where sometimes the cameras would freak out and say there was motion 100 times over in a second or not record motion at all. I have two cameras currently showing in a pink hue, but work fine at night with the infrared lighting. This is the exact same thing the other camera did that I had to have replaced under warranty. For the warranty part after paying $500 for a unit if you select the lower online storage you have to pay for shipping to have the camera replaced, but first you have to send the defective price to the manufacturer and when they receive it they will then determine if it is bad then ship you a replacement. So if you like the ease of installation and don't mind replacing your batteries every two months then I say go for it. (Batteries avg. $7 apiece cameras take four each) I have asked for a refund due to all the problems but since I guess I went cheap on the online application it is not part of my warranty. So I will get my other two cameras replaced and a few more months down the road have to replace more and when there isn't any warranty left I guess just deal with it.

This is an amazing system! Not only is it totally wireless but the video quality and free monitoring is a bonus. I purchased this system on a trial basis to use on a construction site. Very easily set up, range was easily extended with a bigger router and the night vision quality exceeds expectations. Within a week of install this system has saved on potential vandalism and the arrest people in possession of 18k in tools and materials. The alert sent to my phone/email I was able to contact police as well as forward clips to police. Since my initial purchase, I have added this system to multiple sites. Battery life is acceptable due to the portability and ease of install. Batteries are easily purchased online in bulk for a fair price. Go get some. I also have them at my home and recommend them to everyone

After lots of research, I decided on the Arlo Smart Home Wireless system. We will be selling our house soon and plan to rent for a while, so we wanted something that was wireless. The downside, of course, is no audio. This was not a deal breaker for me. Arlo has come out with the Arlo q for inside of the house and it works with this system. The release date is January. We have owned the system for 6 weeks and have not had any issues with the battery. The picture quality could be better but for battery operated and the ability to place the cameras almost anywhere, it was acceptable. The bonus is that the cloud storage is free for up to five cameras. A great value!

These cameras are very easy to use and install. They sync to your phone and offer a push message per event. The push message usually has a short delay before your phone goes-off. It depends on your internet connection, but I typically see the push message anywhere from 3-45 seconds after an event. You can select "live view" anytime you like. You can also set the times you want them to record. The color image is excellent for such a cheap camera. There is no sound. The negative: CR123A batteries are expensive to replace. I used mine for a driveway cam for 1 month and it used the 4 batteries up. It was recording video 24-7 based on motion sensitivity set at 100%. I was recording for 35 seconds every event. It detects motion up to about 40 feet out and 15 feet to the sides. Overall, I am very pleased. The other cameras inside the house which are set-up to record the times I am at work are going strong and those batteries should easily last a few months. I have a very expensive Mobotix IP web-based camera system that cost several thousand dollars. This Arlo system has some of the same features for a few hundred dollars. It works great for the money and takes minutes to be up and running. All you really need is a high-speed internet connection and a smart phone. The magnet mount is great. After several weeks, the camera has not moved. The negative of the magnet mount is the fact that it can be stolen. Make sure to mount it out of reach. Arlo has free cloud event storage for up to 5 devices. The storage can be upgraded for a fee. The free cloud storage only goes week by week.

I put up four of these cameras connected to one base station and the system worked great while we were on vacation for 5 weeks. One camera in the house, one in the garage, one outside in the carport and one outside at the front door. All worked well once I dialed in all the settings. The main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel the cameras could have had a longer motion detection range. But, given what we are asking the cameras to do presently the range is working. We would not be able to put the camera up on our house and have it trigger on all points of our large drive (40' x 50'). Other than that the cameras have worked great so far ( ~ 6 weeks since we bought them). Batteries have been in the cameras for 6 weeks now and still show full bars. Nots sure how long they will last, but I am very happy they made it through our 5 week vacation. Each camera takes 4 CR123A batteries (included). Comes with Lithiums. Picture is good day or night. Viewing range at night is a good 30 feet or so. You can see beyond that, too, but you should have good luck within 30 feet for so. I like that the camera system runs off our WIFI so I do not have to purchase SIM card time. I used the wifi extenders that plug into the house's electrical wiring system to get good wifi to the camera base station which was positioned for optimal camera reception. I used my laptop, iPhone, and iPad to monitor the cameras while we were away. Installation was easy. Mount a metal half sphere the size of a golf ball to wall, post, strut, etc and the camera has a magetic concave back that sticks to the sphere and can be adjusted over a large range. My cameras outside were not subjected to intense winds, but none moved or wavered so far. My advice: get the cameras and put them up with enough time to play with the system and get everything dialed in for optimal performance and the appropriate surveillance triggers. I am happy with this purchase and will be finding other uses around the house for the cameras.... like finding out where/how mice are getting...

Arlo is a very well developed product overall, very slick and easy to set up. Installing the router, setting up the cameras, linking the cameras to the router can all be done in short order. Mounting the cameras takes some time, not because of the hardware --- which is easy to use, but because you have to trade coverage area vs. the ability to be sure that motion will be detected by the camera. When mounted outside, this is even more of a challenge. But once it is done, the system works as advertised. The phone notifications are great and the video is almost instantly available to see if there is anything amiss. I recommend not using email notifications because it will jam up your inbox pretty quickly. I'm not sure I'm going to get the full six months life out of the batteries, but that could be a result of all of the testing while setting up the system.

Got this on a early Black Friday super sale. Excellent for 4 cameras and a base station. The camera video quality is pretty good, Night vision is good. Please notice that I am not using the word great in this review. Video Capture: Whats not good is the motion detection. Very slow. We pick up lots of the backs of heads of people. I suppose that to save battery life, they have it programmed to turn on when it really really wants to capture something, but then you usually miss the point of the video capture. I am continuing to play around with the position of the cameras to be able to maximize this cameras capability to capture useful surveillance video. Storage of Video: Cloud is your only real choice, 1 Gb on a rolling basis for free, (inferring internet availability is an absolute must), if you want more space it's an additional monthly annuity to Netgear. Albeit, you can download any videos manually to your computer. It would be much better if they had at least some solution to record to a local NAS/HD, or an auto download from their cloud. Battery Life: We have been in operation for almost a month, batteries(according to the app) look to be very good. We will see as it is now mid December and its getting cold outside. But if they last 3+ months, I could live with that even though they take those expensive A123 batteries. Overall: I don't think I would be super happy with these if I paid full retail, but since I got them on a great discount I am content with the pluses and minuses. I have all 4 mounted outside. I wish they have a more theft proof mount which forces you to position them far enough from arms reach yet close enough to gather the information they are supposed to get for you. I am working on a cheap housing that will allow me to mount them directly for a face shot that would require a would be thief to break it down to get to the camera. I will post a picture when I finish it. I would recommend this for purchase as long as people heed the short comings.

Very easy to set up compared to the other IP cameras you can buy. The kit comes with everything you need including batteries. All of the instructions fit on a fold out card. Push a button on the base station, push a button on the camera, wait a few seconds and you're done! Android and iPhone apps are practically identical. There is also a web interface you can use to view your cameras. Cameras produce a good quality image during the day time. The night images are dependent on the IR lights on the camera. Generally, they work but if you have the camera aimed along a wall, the lights may just light up the wall. It works best if you have the camera aimed at a larger area. I am using the cameras outside. I'm sure that you'll get great images if you mount them inside your home. Mounting is simple. Only takes one screw to hang the magnetic mounts. My only concern is that it's VERY easy to steal a camera. You can just grab it and pull it off. It's only attached with a strong magnet. One nice surprise is that this 4 camera kit came with one screw mount too. I used that at the front door to maybe at least slow down (or deter) someone from grabbing the camera. The cameras aren't constantly recording video. They "come to life" when they detect motion. You can manually activate them using the app/web site to watch a live feed. They work this way to preserve battery power. I have only had the cameras for about a week and the battery indicator hasn't dropped yet. I can't speak to how long the batteries will last yet. The package is expensive but it's high quality equipment.

I decided to buy this unit based on a recommendation from a Best Buy salesmen which was based on his experience with customer returns. This has been the perfect camera system for me. The camera image was on my iPhone in less than 10 minutes. A single screw was all that I needed to mount it in my entryway. The magnetic base sphere allows you to adjust the view in real time was you are viewing the phone. It was easy to set up what days and times I wanted to record and it's easy to change those settings. The note vision is great. I had my son walk into our pitch black bathroom and it looked as though the kites were on. Also, there were no compatibility issues between my existing Linksys router and the Netgear router. I set the system up to send me a text and an email when motion is detected at my entry way. One click and I'm watching the video to see who came to my door. My only complaint is that I wish it would be a little faster recording the start of motion. I seem to loose a couple seconds at the beginning. So knowing this, position your camera far enough away so that you capture motion a couple seconds after its occurred. The crazy thing is I bought a wired system from Costo and it's still sitting in my garage because I can't get the video lines fed into the attic. We will see how the Arlo battery life holds over the winter. My 18 year old son waves to me as he leaves the house. He knows he's on camera! Haha. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my garage so I can watch the pets while I travel. I'm rambling. Get one. You won't be disappointed.

So I got the arlo system with 4 cameras recently. Set up was easy enough, took like 10 minutes. I like that part. Whats bothers me about this system is: 1) It drains the battery pretty quickly. It uses the expensive CR 123A battery. Thats like $7 a piece at target and it takes 4. So I am also currently hoping to buy a rechargeable set and recharger on ebay. It costs like $20, hope it works. 2) The camera is in black and white unless there is plenty of light 3) It detects motion then switches on. Theres alot of relay there. 4) When you log on to see everything. You have to switch on each camera. But so far so good. I save a bunch of money on installation.

I've tried several web based security cameras over the past few years, This was by far the easiest to setup. First camera was up in running in 20 minutes out of the box. Arlo made changes to the cloud storage offering that makes it a low cost (zero extra $$) if you only are concerned for capturing what takes place for 12 hours which was all I really wanted anyway as far as seeing if someone has broken into my house. The resolution at 720p could present a problem to identify people, but it's still pretty good. One flaw is how slow it takes the camera to start sending an alert for the first movement. Another is having to reduce the sensitivity for changes in room light due to the movement of the sun. Proper adjustment took care of that. The settings and alert screens sent to your phone are very easy to navigate. Initial setup and scheduling has got to be one of the best thought out features of the system. A lot of thought went into making this a system the non-IT type person could setup. Very impressed. I see the developers continuing to improve the system with updates. No feedback on how long the batteries will last since I've only had it a month or so.

I would recommend this to a friend
