Found no difference in download speeds

I bought this router/modem thinking it would increase the speed of our WiFi experience. It didn't, our signal is actually worse now, with this "more powerful" modem

It works fine if I'm in the same room with the router, but if I move over a room, my service gets sketchy, regardless of the fact that the specifications indicated this model would be good for a full house.
