I am not a techie so I cannot give real detail. I did find out though that things are not as easy as they used to be, Modems and routers are not plug and play anymore, I had to contact Comcast to register my new items with them before they would work.

Incredible Upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We bought this to replace our old modem and router, the old one was only a “n” router, this one is “ac” and also has the 5ghz capabilities and it TRANSFORMED completely the way we use WiFi, I use to have to use 4g data in my basement just because the WiFi signal use to be so bad, now it is as if I’m right next to the router. Anywhere in my big house, also I am in the farthest room from the router and I can stream 4K movies on Netflix with no problem. Definitely worth the upgrade
