For the top asking price, this router is not delivering what it is promising. My old $149 NetGier router did the same job

    Horrible Router

This router worked for about 12 hours then the wifi cut out. I tried rebooting the router and eventually reset it to factory settings. It still would not function after the factory reset was performed. I contacted netgear support and they were no help at all. They only told me to factory reset the router and return it to the store if it did not work. What would have happened if the router stopped working after I owned it for 6 months. I would have been stuck with a $400 paper weight.

Good router for wired and 5 Ghz wireless

Hooked up the unit and had it running fine for about 5 days. Then the older lap top and the TV could not connect to the 2.4 Ghz wireless network. Router showed it to be broadcasting but it did not show up on any device as being an available network. Contacted tech support and 3 hours later were told they would have to hand this problem over to their engineers and we may see an answer in about two weeks. Unit was still under 30 day purchase, returned it for a refund.

Hello Netgear you have a problem with these!! If you must buy this make sure to buy the 2yr warranty!! Taking this one back and will go the Orbi route!

Very expensive, but I'm very pleased!

I upgraded a very old router to this one. I have approximately 30 devices on my current network. Mostly a mixture of N and AC, and some wired. The speed is amazing and I noticed an improvement immediately. I have had this router installed now for about 2 weeks and have not had a single drop out or had to reset the router yet. Set up was easy, and quicker than I expected. Before I had issues achieving full speed downloads to wireless devices from my Comcast Internet with Blast speeds. Now all my devices that I have tested achieve full speed of my internet connection. Which feels good to know I'm able to get my moneys worth now. This router is very expensive but it is powerful. Choosing this router could be compared to using a nuclear reactor to boil an egg for most households, but as long as everything works and continues to work the way it is now I have nothing but praise.

    Excellent product - easy setup

I received this R8500 as a part of NETGEAR's review and test program. It was incredibly easy to setup through the NETGEAR genie and I really like just having to remember routerlogin.net to access it. Since I have uverse, I had to set this up as a wireless AP rather than an actual router, but that was no trouble as I did that a few months earlier with a different router and was familiar with the process. The WiFi speed and coverage is excellent as I can max out my internet connection speed from every nook and cranny of my 2 story house. It is a rather (deceptively# large router which can make it difficult to tuck away on a small shelf in a coat closet and it doesn't have a stand to hold it vertical #although you can mount it to a wall). This really only knocks off a 1/2 star in my book, but that rounds back up to 5 stars.

Tired switching to what was supposed to be one of the best. After many years with a rock solid Apple extreme (more than 6 years no issues) It was just time for an update. Tired going for this and it never worked right. Returned it and got the newer version of Apple AirPort Extreme. Apple was cheaper and works perfect took no time to get going and got much improved signal speed and strength. Stay away for this

Died after 4 months, and Netgear only offers free support for 3 months from purchase. After paying for support, they tell you to hard reset, which I had already tried multiple times. I will not be purchasing Netgear products in the future after my experience. This model has a history of failure, and Netgear support is bad.

I wanted to love the super expensive Nightwawk AC 5300, but it did not perform any better than the Netgear R6300 which is alot cheaper. After 1 month the Nighthawk AC 5300 went into a constant power cycle and upon a few internet searches this seems to be happening to more than a few people. I would not recommend this product

    The Hemi of routers

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Like a truck that has a Hemi engine, the router is big. It can carry more load than you probably need it to. it will get attention. Also, like a hemi, you need to understand what it is when you're buying it. You can use this for casual web browsing, just like you can use a hemi to pick your kids up at school. However, this is not the true purpose of this router. The true purpose of this router, in my eye, is for two things. Running a lot of simultaneous devices, and running them at high speed. The router has done this flawlessly for me. I haven't had to reset it ONCE in the six months that I have owned it. That is unheard of, for me anyway, when using a router. It doesn't have random drop out or seem to get overwhelmed with traffic. If the power is on, I know my router is going to deliver. For the speed aspect, chances are, whatever internet you have going into it is going to be slower than what it is capable of spitting out. I had a very beefy internet connection (gigapower) and in the evening, this thing just works. This is while there's games and youtube on one computer, 1080p streaming to my TV, with multiple phones and maybe a tablet connected to it. The buffering I dealt with before is gone. The drops in quality are gone. This thing works. You will not need to buy another router for at least a decade, and this is going to be WAY better than whatever router AT&T or comcast gives you.

This is the second Netgear Nighthawk I've purchased in less than two years. BOTH have died, after overnight storms. This one lasted just three months! Both were plugged in to a high dollar battery backup surge protector and along with a Motorola modem where the ONLY casualties in the entire house! Hundreds of dollars wasted!! Works great when it works.

Previously, I purchased the Netgear X6, but I returned it for the Netgear X-8. Prior to purchasing the Netgear X6 & X-8, my son would complain about buffering issues on his iPhone or iPad while watching Netflix or YouTube in his room. The Netgear X-6 fixed that issue, but when Netgear released the X-8, I was willing to pay $100 more because of the specs. With the Netgear X-8, I streamed Netflix, Hulu plus, HBO NOW, and YouTube in HD simultaneously on a X-box one, three iPads, and three iPhones in my son's room. There wasn't any buffering issues w/ any device (Note: the max speed from my ISP is 24 Mbps). The Netgear X-8 performs likes a beast, and it doesn't look cheap.

The wireless router broke after one week. The signal kept dropping and then wouldn't even connect to the internet. Spoke to Netgear 2x to correct the problem, but only provided a temporary fix lasting an hour. We finally decided to take the router back and upgrade to the X10 for an additional $100 and that has been well worth it.

I was a loyal Netgear customer until I purchased this router twice. The first one kicked all my devices of the system and died within a week. Believing I got a hold of a faulty unit I returned it to Best Buy only to have the second one meet the same fate. It was frustrating dealing with customer service out of the country.
