I had to upgrade from the 1st Netgear's Nighthawk R7000 router to the R8500 with all of the wireless devices we have in our home (3 iPhones, 3 iPads, 4 laptops, PS3 & PS4, 3 blue ray players & 4 security cameras). Terrific wireless range, easy to setup & monitor. I thought it was a little pricey, but now I know it was money well spent!!! We also up graded our modem from SB6141 to the SB6183. We have Comcast Blast 75 Mbps & we hit over the 75 Mbps constantly!!!

So far so good. Signal strength is really good, but of course, you need to choose the 5GHz-2 for longer range.

I needed to replace an older Wireless AC router because it was starting to get flaky. After reading review, both on tech sites and consumer reviews here on BestBuy, Amazon, and Newegg I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this router when it went on sale. The performance and coverage has been unbelievable. If you can afford it this router is worth every penny.

Upgraded from earlier version with the 6 antenna system to the newer one with the 8 antennas. Love both systems, yet the 6 antenna nighthawk'so performance is equally as good as the 8 antenna system. Thus save the extra $100plus and purchase the 6 antenna system unless you know something I dont. Have had the 6 antenna system for over a year and the newer 8 antenna system for approximately 3 months. LOVE THE NIGHTHAWK AS IT IS TRULY THE BEST ON THE MARKET

In my household I have at least 10 devices feeding off the router at any given time. My previous router could not meet the load all my family with all of our devices. But with theNETGEAR - Nighthawk X8 AC5300 there is no such thing as buffering or loading anymore. Internet connection with all of our devices including our new Amazon fire stick, printers, tablets, desktops. Cell phones and other gadgets are now running at maximum speed.

It works, and it's fast. One device located at the center of the house covers upstairs, downstairs, garage, basement - all 5400 sf with no weak spots. Data, WiFi calling, Netflix - no problem. Simple setup means I was up and running in no time. Can you ask for more?

While this router may be pricey for the average consumer, it is WELL worth the extra cash you are investing! This router has easily out performed every other router that I have ever owned. It is very stable, blazing fast, has a ton of features and looks down right cool. Even with two Xbox One systems, four tv connections, four laptops and five phones all streaming from it at the same time, it performs flawlessly.

One thing I can say about the x8 is its fast and the range in incredible. Unfortunately, the router software is a not where it needs to be. I frequently need to reboot the router in order to regain connectivity. Maybe in the next firmware release, this issue will be fixed, but right now its ridiculous to see this in a router this expensive.

Three hundred dollars is a bit much to spend on a commercial grade router but it does offer a few nice features for power users. The third band is nice if you have a dedicated streaming device going off of wireless. It helps alleviate wireless congestion while maintaining throughput. If you have the cash to drop its a decent consumer grade router with a few newer features which you are paying the premium for.

Best Ever Router by a Long Long Way

I read many reviews good and bad on the Nighthawk X8 and it sounded like this is the solution to all my problems, which I have heard since my first router many years ago - it has never been true UNTIL NOW. Easy install just follow directions step by step and you will see networks in your area you didn't see before and connect all your devices in any corner of your house. We have 3 4k TVs and stream HD on any and all of them and the loading time is almost gone. The HD steaming show starts quickly with no waiting, Oh and did I mention we have 3-4 Computers running with 3-4 IPADS and 3 IPHONES . This router is a major improvement and very smart. Only downside is cost but it did go on sale for about $20 off recently.

The newer routers are getting a lot of hype lately as the number of bands, antennas, connections, speeds increases. The latest NETGEAR router is another VERY expensive entry to the Nighthawk line. First, the antennas don't lock into a permanent position now matter how much you tighten the knurled knobs. Any movement or contact with an antenna sends it to a flat position. Second, there are LEDs on the front AND the top of the unit. It's nearly impossible to see both sets of LEDs at the same time. It's also difficult to determine the purpose of an LED without turning the room lights. Third, this router is a MONSTER. Make sure that you have room for it if you're replacing a router. Fourth, and most importantly, at least in our houses, the performance is no better than a less expensive router. Distance isn't as promised with the AC5300 unable to maintain a strong signal to a device 30' away on the same floor. It also has little ability to penetrate floors any better than an Apple AirPort Extreme or a lower-priced Linksys router. At the price, you're better off buying a few inexpensive routers and creating an extended network.

I was impressed with the features of this router with multiple logins including unsecured guest login as we have many visitors looking for wifi. Very important to me were 6 ethernet ports for adding peripheral devices. The only negatative could be a little bit more complicated for hooking up devices using advanced connection (port fowarding). It could be the best router on the market at this time.

Great Router for Advanced User but too Expensive

X8 is a great router for an advanced user especially when using a NAS with two network ports. Unlike other routers I have used and tested, this router is extremely stable. I have not had to reset the router since purchase. However, this router is very expensive so unless you need the advanced features, I might pass.

I switched my internet provider to get a faster internet, so I thought I would buy a new router to handle the high speed internet. I live in a big house and wanted a router that would ensure I had internet connection throughout my entire house on all my devices. This router far exceeded my expectations and needs. I'm able to access my internet while I'm on the other side of my neighborhood!
