The cameras themselves are fantastic, but netgear's cloud services leave much to be desired. You must arm the cameras in order to record. Pic your cameras aren't armed, you have no clue if motion is detected. And the video stream isn't constant, it only triggers when the units detect motion.

Great product, easy setup. Nice range. Features are exactly what we needed. Only problem is it comes with 2 cameras and only 1 outdoors mount. Mounts are very hard to find and in some cases are more than what I paid for the whole system. Mounted one under the eve of the hous high enough to avoid weather.

This wireless video monitoring system turned out to be a play-toy. The video was very poor quality, the software was rudimentary and the price was much higher than high quality wired systems. In addition, if you want more than two cameras, you have to pay a subscription fee! Only one of the two included cameras came with an outdoor "shell". I returned this item and bought a wired system with 4 high quality imaging color cameras with night vision and motion detection; a large capacity video recorder was included, all for less money. Don't waste your time on this item.

Interesting and clever approach to security

My goal was to use Vuezone to provide video capability to my existing home security system. Vuezone offered all the features I wanted: completely wireless, motion activated, e-mail alerts, mobile access, cloud storage and easy setup. I found that the marketing information about Vuezone was generally accurate in describing what can become an exceptionally good complementary security system. The only real issue I found, and for me it is a big one, is the quality of the camera. The maximum frames per second (fps) is only six. While this speed can produce reasonable quality photos and videos of stationary objects, anything moving will be blurred. Given that thieves are moving most of the time, the system proved unsatisfactory for me. I, regretably, returned it. I very much wanted it to work and remain impressed with the concept. It is important to note that Netgear acquired Vuezone from Avaak in August 2012. I'm certain they know the shortcomings of their cameras. I asked Netgear customer service if there were new cameras coming. They responded by saying that they recently looked at a camera which had significantly improved battery power. This would enable them to speed up the fps and quality. However, they made no commitments that new cameras were forthcoming. The Vuezone system is potentially so good for my needs that I would purchase it again if the camera was improved. In fact, if Netgear had offered an optional AC powered camera with better quality and higher fps, I would have kept the system. At present, I don't see any compelling applications for the system. It can't be used as a surveillance system because the advertised 6-month battery life of the camera is predicated on 5-minutes of use per day. The use of the motion detection feature saves the battery but the camera quality and low fps can't produce reasonable quality of moving objects. A parent could use the system to alert them when their kids return from school or a similar type application. But, other than that, Vuezone needs a better camera.

NETGEAR VueZone Is A Better Mousetrap!

I’ve been researching video home security systems for the past year. I became very disenchanted after reading many less-than-satisfactory product reviews on name-brand wired and wireless systems, until I discovered the NETGEAR VueZone system. I purchased the VueZone 2-camera system and added two NETGEAR VZMS2050-10000S Outdoor Shells to my order. I have since added four additional NETGEAR VueZone VZCM2050-100NAS motion-detection cameras and two additional outdoor shells.
In short, this is a SUPERBLY SIMPLE yet HIGHLY EFFECTIVE motion-detection video security system with an elegant interface using the NETGEAR VueZone service plan. The VueZone system uses an amazingly simple pairing and set-up process. Moreover, it’s a completely flexible system given its wireless interface. I have easily moved cameras to optimize motion-detection and viewing. My wife and I monitor our home using the beautiful VueZone iPhone/iPad apps, and on my Macbook Pro laptop using the NETGEAR VueZone web site on my Safari browser. And unlike so many other security systems, VueZone works beautifully on an Apple computer! My entire system is controlled through the VueZone web site on my Safari browser and/or through the VueZone iPhone/iPad app. My co-workers have been amazed how well I can remotely view our home using my iPad.
The fully adjustable motion detection system works beautifully. While I find the resolution on the 320 X 240 and 640 X 480 video modes to be too low for security purposes, the 1600 X 1200 time-lapse video mode provides excellent quality recorded images. Accordingly, I have my VueZone system set to provide 10-second 1600 X 1200 time-lapse video recordings on each of my outdoor cameras whenever motion is detected.
I initially subscribed to the VueZone Premiere level service plan. I travel extensively and absolutely love the real-time e-mail alerts with the attached video clip. I’m upgrading to the VueZone Elite level service plan to allow for several additional cameras as I plan to expand my VueZone system to cover the interior of our home.
I highly recommend the VueZone system. While it’s not meant to be a 24/7 video streaming system, it works brilliantly as a motion-detection system with live monitoring on an as-needed basis.

Horrible! Don't bother! Waste of time

Sounded so great, ordered it on expedited shipping. Came in 3 days later, set it up. I had ordered the Base unit with the two motion detection cameras and ordered an additional camera. Don't bother with NetGear cust. service. I was on the phone with them for two hours. The 3rd camera I ordered wouldn't work and they ran me around turning everything off in my house, tried to tell me my router had to be made by NetGear in order for the Base station to properly pick up the wireless. The first two cameras synced quickly. However, once you view it, it goes into a "standby" mode then you have to resync the cameras. Can't view cameras after 5 minutes. The iPhone app is horrible as well. I spent over an hour just clicking "login" and the app clocked and timed out. when you can get the app to actually open, it takes forever for it to view the camera when they are working. Also, just forget about the motion detection. If you go online with your computer to activate the motion detection, the vuezone cameras freeze and then tells you cameras unavailable. HORRIBLE. The design of the camera and idea of it is great. The cameras are very small, the mounting system is great and easy to remove the cameras- probably because you have to sync them CONSTANTLY is the reason why they are so easily removed. But who wants to sync and reaim the cameras multiple times a day. I bought this product because the iBaby products had poor reviews with not being wireless and needing to resync the camera constantly. Says it has night vision, but there's a night vision camera required that they do not sell yet. This is obviously a new product. You have to pay $49.99 a year to use this camera system. I'm still waiting for NetGear to refund me. I requested a refund for my annual membership less than 24 hours of my purchase. Also, it says you have to have the memership to view, iPhone users- the app is free in the app store. App is a joke! Just use it on the internet. it's way faster if you feel like waiting. The only feature on the app is to view cameras and there's a button to Reset Base Station. Once again, obviously you have to reset the base station away from home a lot. I reset the base station, and I cannot get the cameras to work. WASTE OF TIME! Do not buy this product! Apple store Sales associate recommended this to me because you can add cameras. There are other systems that can add cameras. Phillips had better reviews, however, I will be purchasing the Lorex Live View with options to view away from home with Skype or iPhone.
Best Buy had great customer service for returns and gave me a $25 gift card for NetGear Customer service that had kept me on the phone for 2 hours. Thanks BestBuy, but please don't sell this product anymore.

I have been using these cameras for over a year now. They are reliable and easy to use after you set them up. They need very little rebooting after they get running. I love that I can check them from my cell phone from anywhere. I will be helping my 75 year old father to install this system at his home. This is the best of four systems that I have tried. I like that I can turn the motion detect on and off and zoom in and out all from my cell phone.

I purchased the system with two motion camera's and one outdoor case. The camera's were very easy to install and setup and have very versatile mounting systems. I do not use the motion sensing, but with the free app and the fact that they are completely wireless, the camera's provide the surveillance I was expecting.
