    bad experience

Out of the box it's obvious that this is a cheaply made product. The thin plastic skin was so light that the weight of the ethernet cables pulled it off my desk. Don't bother trying to set it up vertically. The installer software was unclear. At one point it asked for a password out of the blue. I had to open up the pdf manual and look it up. Twice the installer quit for no appparent reason. On the third try it couldn't log onto the netgear website to complete the installation. After this it quit again: leaving windows unable to log on to the network. My new laptop was so messed up after all of this that I needed to do a system restore. After two hours of pure frustration I put it back in the box and returned it. By comparison the linksys installer software is 200% better. Don't waste your money.

I had this router for about 4 months. It was working great, a little slow every now and then, but one can get by with that. Then all of the sudden POOF couldn't connect for squat. I thought I goofed and didn't pay the cable/internet bill, but when I called they said I was all paid up. I was a little suprised, as my technological expertise is not very good. Called a buddy who works in IT for a major company. He came over and took a look at it, and nothing. He said the wireless function is not working. So now I am stuck with a router, which is actually serving a purpose, but wireless is what I need. Guess we are back to the drawing board, and will probably be staying away from NETGEAR. Buy at your own risk.

    Its a dud

Frist off, I know how to set up a network through a router. I've done it many, many times. This router simply would not work. The only way I got it to work was by routing it through my existing wired router, which caused the internet flicker on and off. I've read a lot of reviews and talked to people about it and it seems to work fine for about 4/5 people. The remainder of these buyers cannot get the thing to work at all. I guess I happened to be one of those people. BOTTOM LINE: I suggest you shell out the extra 10 bucks for a Linksys router and avoid this router.

This worked fine for a few months, then we occasionally had the wireless drop out, then tonight that was it - no more wireless. Several other reviewers report the same problem, so I'd avoid this model.

I was always a user of lincsys but some of the thing were bugging me out so i decided to try this "piece of equipment". I've spent 3 hours trying to set it up on my own and another 1 hour with ISP IT specialist and after all i had to go and get rid of this router. First of all - the software is far beyond the line of being "user Friendly" and its ugly as hell. Second of all, NetGears tec. support in the booklet and on their setup page gives you all the crazy scientific, computer-programming-IT names and its like they thing that every user has a bachelors in IT. Third of all - IT SUCKS!

    Trashed my PC.

I bought this to connect a NetBook to my desktop PC. The price seemed like a bargain for my purposes. Unfortunately, it had a problem with my Olympus camera USB port monitor. This required a Regedit to repair. For $50 the LinkSys Cisco "Wireless-N Home Router" was a much better value. The trial version of LinkSys Net Magic is a huge leap ahead of the crude software which was included with the NetGear G Router. The NetGear trouble shooting guide was confusing and only covered Windows Network fixes. If you have a scanner or a camera then don't buy this product.

My connection speed is suppose to be 30 mbs but it is only 5 mbs with this router. It drops internet connetion all day. Spend your money on a N-router.

there is a reason this is the cheapest one best buy sells. what they also don't tell you is you have to spend another ten dollars minimum for a cable that does not come with this. I am computer literate, but have never needed to go wireless until now. quite a production to get it set up. worked for about a week and a half until we had some sort of brief power outage, now it's not working, have tried resetting it up, may just take this back and get a better brand, i guess there's a reason there are different price ranges.

This was my 3rd router of the same exact model. Each time it's failed to work. It won't save any settings. After saving settings it won't reconnect to the router. Standard IP 192.168.1.1 won't connect at all. Don't waste your money. The only reason I tried 3 times was because I have had two older Firmware models of the exact router and they've lasted at least 2 years each. Even the Linksys routers that are in the same price range are junk. Ended up with the Linksys WRT103N. I'm a Linksys fan again.

    Inconsistent Signal

This is my first router and I have not been happy. I thought the setup was a bit confusing and though following it word by word I was left with a feeling that something wasn't right. I have found that the signal from the router is inconsistent. One minute I'll be online with a very strong signal and the next the signal is gone. I also was not very pleased with their customer service. In the past 12 hours I've had to reset the router three times, and by the way the reset button is hard to find on this model!

    Junk. constantly going down

I've had this router for 4 months. It's been down about a third of the time. After 90 days you have to pay $36 for help- almost the price of a new router-- see the point? Apparently they don't. Also, service calls not only have a long wait but the technicians albeit nice and trying to be helpful, don't offer full detailed explanations. They assume things and that makes support all the more difficult. I'm on my way to buy a different router. Just say no to netgear.

I'm no computer dummy; I use several for my small business, and have had no computer setup issues with any of them. But this product was terrible. Went through the steps several times; made sure all of the wires were properly plugged in, etc...nothing. Would not work. Taking it back tomorrow, and never buying another netgear product again.
