As the switch will take over sometime soon, this is a good begining travel system with good features and good backwards compatibility with games. If you don't need the 3ds xl for Minecraft I'd roll with this cheaper version which came out after the 3ds xl. Wish the games were easier to find at more retail locations but that's to be expected with a system that's not as major player in the marketplace.

A great Nintendo product. If you don't use or care about 3d than this is for you. Feels great in the hands. Large selection of games

Got this for my son. I really prefer the 2D over the 3D effect. A lot of people say the 3D bothers them. I just found it annoying. This play all the 3DS game and its a couple bucks cheaper. Win/win! Highly recommend.

The 2DSXL is a great handheld. Compared to the 3DSXL, it's lighter by a few ounces, and it's slightly shorter (where your index fingers can reach the shoulder buttons more easily). The screen is similar to a cellphone, and it's all display with no speakers. It looks reminicescent to the old iPod touch.
The speakers are moved to the inconvenient location at the palm of your hands, but depending on your grip, you might not cover the speaker.
There is now a protective cover over your game and memory card, to prevent accidental ejections (But easier access to your micro sd). The power button remains in the same spot as the 3DSXL.
The overall build quality and the hinge feels slightly cheaper than it's 3DS counterpart.
Overall, if you aren't interested in the gimmicky 3D (or dropped frame rates during 3D), save yourself the 30-50$ and get the 2DSXL, you wont be disappointed!

I am really enjoying this 2DS. It has 2 large sceens, it's lightweight, and feels durable. That's the quality I have grown to expect from Nintendo. I got the 2DS to play the many Nintendo exclusives available on the 3DS platform (but didn't need games to be 3D) and so far Im having a blast. I like the option to purchase and download games from the eShop (both 3DS and Virtual Console games), and with the ability to add a larger micro SD card space hasn't been an issue.

I previously own the 3ds but never used the 3D function, so when I was ready to upgrade to a bigger screen and power I chose the 2ds XL. The 2ds XL is the same as the 3ds XL but without the 3D.

My 8 year old son uses this with no issues. Games are relatively inexpensive compared to x-box, switch, etc. Easy to take along on the road. Would recommend buying charger for car.

Good replacement for kids original 3ds that finally has started to act up. Had so many games hated to see them go to waste. Didn’t really use the 3d much anyway so won’t be missed.

I was so glad that Nintendo released the 2DS XL in a the same form as the 3DS. The 3D feature of the 3DS always gave me headaches, and I didn't care for the 2DS' big bulky size.

I looked into the New Nintendo 3DS XL and the Nintendo 2DS. The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a great medium between the two. It has a compact design that I love with amazing graphics and a big screen. The top screen that flips is a little bit wobbly but should be fine as long as it's taken care of. The last hand held Nintendo product I had was the Nintendo DS and this was the perfect way to get me back into the systems.

If you're a grown up get the switch instead. You'll love it more.
My eyes are 100% anymore and the screen is a hair small without coke bottle glasses.
That being said,
PROS

Mario and Donkey Kong and Zelda
CONS
Screen Flap is a wee bit flimsy
Feels like you shouldn't drop it ever
Nintendo phone support is just ok. Don't forget pin for parental lock etc.
Overall this is going to be a good cover the bases kind of Christmas gift.
Every time we went into a store this is what the 8yo would sit and play - so she gets one for the holidays.

My kid likes loves it. The 2 ds xl is a much better deal than the 3 ds. I was not a fan of the 3D on the in store demo. This one seemed like a better package.

This is an excellent system. Very well made and durable. It will play all Nintendo 2DS and 3DS games, although the 3DS games are obviously only in 2D. The one additional nice thing about this system, unlike the 3DS, is that it comes with a charger in the box. When taking that into consideration, this system is actually around $70 cheaper than the 3DS (as of Aug 2017) making it a great deal.

I upgraded from a 2ds to 2ds xl and I love it! Screen is a lot bigger and overall more comfortable to hold. Picture quality is great too! The only negative I have it feels a bit flimsy when opening as if it'll break if you open it too fast. Other than that very happy with my purchase.
