My wife uses this with her 2DS all the time for importing characters from amiibo figures. The process isn't as fast as using a new 3DS with built-in NFC but it's still fine. The batteries seem to drain rather quickly though, she normally has to replace them once every few weeks. I wish Nintendo would have gone with an integrated, rechargeable battery instead of using two AA batteries. That way she could just recharge it using any number of portable chargers and cables we have instead of always worrying about bringing at least one set of AA batteries. Other than that, it's a nice product that allows older 3DS/2DS players to import characters using amiibo figures and cards without having to get a whole new console.

Much cheaper way to experience Amiibo on your older model 3DS. Instead of dropping 200$ for a New 3DS, to have Amiibos show up on Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Code Name STEAM, etc., this is a great alternative.

Older Nintendo 3DS's and 3DSXL's do not have NFC capability built-in, so there is no way to use Amiibo's with some of the newest games (new Smash Bros, Chibi-Robo, etc)... This is a great way to get the capability to use your Ammibo's with your older 3DS system and new games without having to buy a new 3DS,

I spent a long time playing alongside my friends, not knowing about the amiibo interactions, and how they played through on the 3DS. So when I heard there was a device that would allow me to give this a try, I had to buy one! The product itself feels a little light, but for portability that is a plus. The range is very effective, however it is using an IR system for information transfer so you have to position yourself fairly directly to transfer data. Thankfully it only takes a couple of seconds to load, and you can resume your activities as normal. I don't see any updates to this issue as newer consoles have this product built in, but for the price I feel very satisfied with my product. Thanks!

It works like a dream, and it's had no trouble (So far) connecting to my system. It would be rated higher if not for the feeling that it's just a way for NIntendo to earn more money. 4-Stars, though, because if not for this, I'd have to buy the New3DS (Which I'm not willing to do at this point, since the one I have currently is fine, and I'm not planning on getting the New3DS any time soon.

If you don't have the new 3DS and want to use amiibo then this is the way to go. Easy to setup and use. Besides it looks very nice, as everything Nintendo does.

If you have an old 3ds then you must have this to use amiibo

I brought this since I can't afford to upgrade right now. I love how easy it is to use and how light weight it is.

My son loves Super Smash Bros and those Amiibo figures but could not use them on his 2DS....until now. This wireless unit syncs with his 2DS and now his figures come to life!

This device, as an amiibo reader, works perfectly, and performs its job well! I had gotten mine because I didn't own a New 3DS and thus couldn't scan amiibos, but now that I have this, I can utilize all the extra functions in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Paper Mario: Paper Jam, and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get full usage out of their 3DS games and amiibos!

While this definitely helps with the non-reader 3DS, the range could be better to help when using the figures. That being said, instead of having to plunk down more money, it is a great temporary fix. I hope the use continuea to evolve.

My son has been loving the ability to finally use amiibo on his 3DS games thanks to this reader. Great Product

I bought this because my son wanted it to use with his 3DSXL. He loves it. He uses it with a Mario figurine and it gives him additional power ups when he plays his games. Other figurines can be purchased so this reader/writer will get frequent use as he buys more of his favorite characters to play in conjunction with it. A great gift for the Nintendo 3DS fan in your life.

It would be nice if this wasn't required on the original 3DS, but it's also handy that you can at least buy this instead of an entire new "new 3DS".

Doesn't do much besides allow Amiibos to be used on older 2/3DS's. FYI, though it is shaped like a hockey puck it should NOT be used for that purpose. Pro Tip.

If your kids love Amiibos and can't use them on their older DS, I would recommend getting them one. Cost is reasonable and easy set up! Definitely adds more pleasure to your children's DS playtime!

This is a great way to use your amiibo even more. There are some great uses like codename steam and Animal crossing home designer!

Very easy to set up and use with my 3ds, loved that it was easy to use and instructions were very clear.

My kids who are 6&7 love this new gadget which enables them to have just as much fun with their games as they do at home.

It works just like the built in NFC reader on the new 3DS. The only difference is that you have to line up the devices.
