I’ll just state this right out of the gate, the Night Owl is an incredibly streamlined wired security system and if you’re thinking about investing in a home security camera system then I would recommend wired security cameras over the wireless options. Wireless cameras are not useless but there are times where you will need immediate access to a camera feed but because the camera is wireless, there are elements that can interfere with the signal feed. Or if your internet goes down for whatever reason, it’s nice to know that wired cameras are still recording and the videos are being stored in a physical DVR. My previous wired home security camera system did its job which was to accurately record the details around and inside my home. However, my previous camera system interface was cumbersome and time-consuming. There was one time where I needed to find out who and what time someone had illegally dumped trash out front. I knew the incident had happened within a four-hour window but it took over an hour to scrub through that four-hour time window to get the vehicle and face of the person. Had this been dire evidence that I needed immediately, the whole ordeal would have been far more frustrating and strenuous. Setup: Depending on the home layout, you could have the Night Owl system up and running within an hour (with the proper tools). Once the cameras are properly hooked up and plugged in, you have the option to connect the system to the optional monitor or just download the Night Owl Protect app and sync the DVR with the app. I use both. I have an older flat-screen TV that I use as a monitor in an office so that I can just glance up and see immediately what is happening. However, when it comes to the app, I have to admit that accessing the cameras is spot on and accurate with little or no lag. With my previous system, bringing up the camera feed through the app was delayed. Again, it was frustrating when the same camera just alerted me that there was activity. The Night Owl app allows you to swipe through each camera feed while streaming HD detail. Quality and Benefits: As I stated above, the video quality is clean and sharp. Whether you are using an optional monitor or viewing the camera(s) through your smart device. There are a lot of options for the user to activate regarding the camera sensitivity (detecting movement), turning on the built-in camera lights, or activating an alarm to scare off suspicious individuals. The added benefit to a camera system isn’t just for yourself but also the neighborhood. Cameras might pick up some important details regarding an incident that happened up the street. There was one time where UPS was supposed to have delivered a large package to my home but they claimed they did. I reviewed the security footage and saw what had happened was that they had delivered the package to a rental home next door to me. When I calmly went to the neighbors and asked for the package, they denied having it. But upon me revealing that I had cameras showing the delivery to their home, suddenly they remembered they had it. Keep in mind, these cameras aren’t just for the outside, they can be set up for the inside of your home or business. No Fees: Because The Night Owl uses a 1TB DVR, you are not asked for monthly fees to maintain cloud storage. Some home security cameras force cloud storage with additional monthly fees. The Night Owl has no fees. It uses the DVR for storage. And yes, you can even download the recording(s) from the DVR to your device which is very welcomed. As you can see, there are PLENTY of reasons to have home security cameras. And if this is your first time with a wired home camera system, then I believe that you are making the right choice with Night Owl for its ease of use and streamlined features.

Was told I would get free installation. Not true. Now the install by private contractor is twice what I paid for the kit

The cameras and video quality are good. The app is a nightmare and the customer service/ tech support is some of the worst I have ever experienced. I think it would work great if you are using it on a desktop only but otherwise I would find another brand with a usable app.

I bought these when my other camera system was not working properly. So far so good with these ones.

Pretty good for $600. A bit hard to set up if you use monitor. Easy to set up through app. Don’t include monitor.

Terrible I’ve been trying to get them to come uninstall them so I can get different ones.

doesn't continuously record on all 8 channels as it should, setup to do so, but only continuously records on channels 1 and 2. night own is zero help on this. only found this out afterneeding to look at recordings over night, and nope only 2 channels are recording at all times, event are no help, skips time, skips humans, detects humans when there are none. worst purchase ever, should have kept the system i had, even though the app (night owl connect) was junk at least the dvr worked properly. no ability to set recording times either, unlike the previous night owl system i had which continuously recorded on all 8 channels and broke the recordings up via my time settings(ie i had them every 5 minutes)

The Night Owl DVR Camera system is a nice upgrade from previous versions with the included Bluetooth connectivity. The process of setting up the DVR with a mouse, HDMI cable, and computer monitor was very tedious for prior versions. Having the ability to connect to the DVR via Bluetooth and the app makes it a lot simpler to setup. I was setup and ready to go in no time. The app works, but it can definitely use an update. The design and layout if a bit dated. The app is also a bit slow in some areas. When I try to load the settings of the DVR or Camera, it takes about 5 seconds or so before I can continue. I have to wait for the spinning wheel to stop. It usually stops between 5-10 seconds, then I can proceed. This is an area which I hope they can address. The cameras are made of plastic, unlike metal for another brand I own. The cameras were easy to connect. The manual tries to help in setting up the cameras, but the instructions were a bit tricky in my opinion. They also have a very helpful YouTube video of how to set it up using a QR Code on the backslide of the quick start guide. The cameras do a good job of detecting motion and the picture quality is pretty good. At night it records in Black & White, and it also has a light that you can enable or disable to come on when motion is detected. There’s an option to have a siren or pre-recorded voice alert through the camera UI. I was not able to hear any audio nor speak through the camera. I would assume the audio and mic features aren’t available for this particular model. Overall, it’s a good DVR system and the added Bluetooth setup is a huge plus over previous system setups.
