Jake Gyllenhal is really creepy as an independent video cameraman. I suppose there are people out there that would do the things he does to get his foot in the door and move up.

It was decent, but I was expecting more. The previews made it seem very interesting, but it was rather boring in my opinion...

Very dark film. Watched this with my wife. She had enough about half way through the movie and left the room. I continued watching hoping it would get better. It did not!

Disturbing Tale of a Man Finding His Calling

Jake Gyllenhaal plays what some may call a sociopath in this fantastic film. Wandering the streets of Los Angeles, he finds a profession that not only scratches the itch of his sick mind, but also that of the local news viewing public. Highly recommended.

It's "Drive" meets Dark News Tabloid Satire!

The nightly news broadcast brings us crime headlines on a close proximity within our city, but we if looked closer on the scene? That's where Lou Bloom comes in, a clever and ambitious sociopath who after a life of petty crime and thievery turns to a new path: tabloid news in Jake Gyllenhaal's best performance to come. Through his own resources, Lou "nightcrawls," spending every night to videotape crime scenes, competing with other "nightcrawlers and outsmarting police obstacles until his own passion for "nightcrawling" takes him to the dark and dangerous lengths, story after story. From his professional relationship with crooked news director, Nina Romina(Rene Russo), Lou's cold, calculating ethic pushes him to get closer to the next headline, risking his young, starving peer Rick (Riz Ahmed). Will Lou continue to go to desperate lengths to capture the next story or will his actions put him on a radar for criminal investigation? Nightcrawler is a revelation of neo-noir filmmaking that is meant to be experienced in BluRay with sharp, crisp HD resolution to bring the dark cinematography to your own T.V. set and a palpable 5.1 soundtrack that comes alive. Fans of Jake Gyllenhaal, Neo-Noir film and just film consumerism in general rejoice, NightCrawler is the one for you!

Not what I expected- in a good way.

Picked this up after reading almost universal praise from critics and I was not disappointed. It opens with one of the most abnormal main character introductions I've seen in a long time. Just when I was about to write this off as another "Fatal Attraction" clone, with too much reliance on genre cliches, it made a sharp u-turn choosing to take a darker, gritter backstreet. It turned out be be truly frightening on so many levels, leaving the erotic thriller behind and instead became one of 'those' films. You know, where you talk to the screen muttering, "they can't possibly go there." Then when it does, in even more graphic detail than I could have imagined. At times it left me peaking through my fingers and sighing.. not a sigh of relief but more like the kinda sigh that rhymes with Jolie - Pitt. Definitely worth a watch for anyone who enjoys disturbing thrillers. Another reason to watch- Rene Russo gives an awesomely unsettling performance .

    Sick & Seedy

Nightcrawler is a twisted ride down to the underbelly of journalism. Not a film for the faint of heart, Gyllenhaal gives one of his finest performances as Louis Bloom, an ambitious, if socially abnormal, young man who is driven by his desire to rise to the top. Top-notch supporting cast and a tight script help this movie deliver in every way you were afraid they would (and hoped they wouldn't), providing a delectably wicked viewing.

One of the better, more memorable thrillers in recent years. Jake Gyllenhaal is terrific; a real creep. Very good pacing; great intensity. Not sure if it's my favorite thriller concerning videography - I think that still goes to Blow Out, but a very intriguing film nonetheless, and one I plan to watch again. 5 bags of popcorn.
