Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Coolpix P950 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera's impressive zoom capabilities, ease of use, and pleasing image quality in well-lit conditions. However, some customers have mentioned its heavier weight, occasional autofocus delays at higher zoom levels, and concerns about battery charging. Overall, the camera seems to be well-received for its key features, but potential buyers should be aware of the reported drawbacks.

Nikon P950 is a Great Bridge Camera

I purchased this Nikon P950 to have a "real camera" to take on a trip to Alaska, that I didn't have to carry around a lot of gear. So far, I have photographed the solar eclipse, the full moon, pet and family portraits, and macros of the bluebonnets. Have to say, the sharpness and detail is excellent for a bridge camera. The lens zoom is absolutely phenomenal. I love that attaching the camera to your phone downloads the photos straight to your phone via the SnapBridge App which then uploads to the cloud. I also purchased a USB-C card reader in case the bluetooth connection is poor. The camera is a bit weighty but so much lighter than my DSLR. Still getting to know all the features and controls available. Overall very pleased with my purchase.

    Nice upgrade from the P900...

This was a well-needed upgrade from the Nikon P900 and much more compact than the bulky P1000. Its kind of a combination of both, hence the P950 label. The viewfinder is a nice update. Much easier to see your photos before and after the shot. It also shoots in RAW format, and you have quick access to exposure compensation with a new dial on the left side of the camera. The "moon mode" is a nice option for those moon shots. It also shoots in 4K @ 30fps or 1080 @ 60 video. I wish it was weather and dust proof, as it's a great hiking camera being somewhat light and compact for a 2000mm zoom. The image stabilization is very impressive. A great asset when you're at 2000mm zoom. I'd say @ $799, it's a lot of bang for the buck. I wish it had a larger sensor, and maybe 20MP over 16MP, but from a value standpoint, Nikon did well. Five stars to both BestBuy (Chapel Hill Store) and Nikon.

Used it several times took it at stumpy lake natural area trails in virginia beach and this camera shoots clear photos and videos. I would suggest to use a tripod or monopod when zooming in on a subject for better stability and avoid shakiness. I also purchased an aftermarket remote control online to avoid touching the camera when taking videos and stills for better clarity. Overall, im happy with my purchase and will recommend this camera!

    Long zoom advantage!

I can get sharp images up to 800 mm on a sunny day. beyond that it starts to get blurred with handheld shooting. using the digital zoom which goes beyond 2000mm is unusable for me. Also having occasional focus hunting on small moving subjects like birds but mostly i get great photos with different birds in our backyard. Other than that this camera is great for casual shooting. image quality is good. That long zoom definitely can get you closer which is the main selling point of this camera.

I have owned DSLR cameras and various lenses for many years. I loved the idea of a long zoom bridge camera, but was concerned about giving up image quality with the smaller sensor. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with what this camera is able to do with my favorite type photography of backyard birding. And just love the versatility of quickly moving from shooting an adult bluebird feeding its fledglings from a far distance to a closeup pic of an anole on the back porch.

I purchased this for my trip to Africa which I just wrapped up. I must say, this camera knocked it out of the park. I got amazing photos, bright/clarity and definition. Plus, I was able to capture things that no one else was able to, or even see. I’ve played with capturing the moon and it blew me away. Seeing the craters and spots from my backyard and only with this camera. The part was a little nauseating initially but so glad I bought it for my trip bc you cannot do Africa with a phone camera.

This is a great camera! I originally bought a cannon because there was a very good deal available, but the zoom wasn't good enough to capture a hawk's nest I was photographing I switched for the Nikon because of the better zoom and a bird photo setting. The camera worked great, and I got wonderdul photos!

This camera is great! I love the crispness of the moon pics and how easy it is to take wildlife and bird shots. I'm still getting used to the settings, but the camera has already been an excellent value for the cost.

Camera is very nice, still getting used to the weight of it. But if your looking for a camera that takes great night pictures then this one is for you. I havebeautiful moon and star photos. I have never seenthe big dipper that well on a photo. I love photographing birds, it does an amazing job. I'm still learning with it, I'm sure it will be well used.

I bought this camera with specific expectations regarding zoom photography and photos of the moon. I’m an hobby photographer at best but have been able to take some amazing photos far exceeding my expectations. Weighing my options for the cost of lenses for my DSLR vs this piece of equipment I consider this well worth every penny.

This is an awesome camera. It’s not considered lightweight, but considering what you can do with this unit it’s worth the trade off. A tripod is definitely worth the investment.
