Customers consistently note the Coolpix P950 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera's impressive zoom capabilities, ease of use, and pleasing image quality in well-lit conditions. However, some customers have mentioned its heavier weight, occasional autofocus delays at higher zoom levels, and concerns about battery charging. Overall, the camera seems to be well-received for its key features, but potential buyers should be aware of the reported drawbacks.

Take great pics of birds and deer, but not easy for this old lady to figure out how to get the most out of it's capabilities. None of these pics are edited .

Great camera! I’ve had it about 8 months and great for birding and nature shots. The only real con I’ve noticed is a little noise when zooming on video.

I bought this camera mostly for videoing wildlife. The zoom ability is awesome! Loving it so far. There are other cameras that have a little better clarity but they’re a lot more $. For the price I’m really happy with this!

Spectacular photos of the moon and landscapes. Incredible zoom. Very pleased with my purchase. I am a novice photographer so i anticipate even better results as i learn to navigate camera. Tripod is a must for clearer photos. No regrets.

I LOVE this camera! I bought it mostly for birding, and it does not disappoint! The bird setting is awesome. I love being able to quickly use the app to move photos to my phone or iPad and then post them right away. It has so many features, I haven’t even gotten through them all yet.

This Nikon P950 does pretty good overall. The telephoto is nice, but the auto focus is aggravating at best. Perhaps I will learn more about it in time. The camera is heavy and a bit bulky, as mentioned in other reviews. The pics are good, but getting the adjustments correct for various shots can be tedious.

This camera produces nice image quality in good light. Stabilization is impressive. Zoom is super long. Snap back zoom feature is really helpful when zooming long distance. To my surprise, program mode is excellent. RAW is a nice feature but jpeg out of camera is very good. Nice viewfinder for a bridge camera. Button layout is good. Anything over 800 ISO is not recommended, 100-400 is best but wasn't expecting anything different from a small sensor camera. Lens is a marvel, blows my mind at the image quality at the long end. When you get into the digital zoom, make sure to use a sturdy tripod, cable release (or timer function) and turn off Vibration Reduction in menu, for optimal image quality. The lens hood is a bonus and needed. The camera is light, easy to use, and with a little practice, you will get consistently good results.

Overall, I like the camera. The zoom is great for birdwatching. However, the charger that came with the camera stopped working with a couple of months. When I contacted Customer Service at Nikon I was told I would have to ship the charger to them at my own cost. They would then determine if they would fix the charger or replace it. For $900.00 I expect the charger work and be replaced immediately if it fails. Poor customer support.

I purchased this camera earlier in the year. Its now late 2025 and i now have some things to say about it. I owned the P900 but gave it to my grandson for a graduation present. I purchased this cause i loved the P900 so much. This camera is just an update with 4k movies. The biggest problem i had was the battery. It was junk but wasn’t sure if the camera was the problem or not. So cheapest way to troubleshoot was to buy knockoff batteries and check. The knockoffs showed it was the battery not the camera. The battery that came with it was junk. The menu system is ok. I think it could be more user friendly but i bought a book to teach myself how to understand it better. I learned on a Olympus OM-1 when i was young which was a manual. These automatic camera’s confuse me at times but my age doesn’t help. I recommend an aftermarket book which is specific to this camera. I do like this camera and for what it does for the price it’s worth it. I would give 5 stars but the battery to one star away.

Excellent zoom and the camera is very easy to use. Night photography is reasonably good, but needs a tripod to shoot more than 100 yards away. Downloading of images to I Pad is also easy. One issue - halfway max zoom the auto focus takes quite a while, not to mention at further zoom than that.

Camera takes fantastic pictures. The camera is quick to focus, and snap the picture.
The extreme focus is almost unusable at max extension without use of a tripod, however that is not the fault of the camera.
I had a Lumix FZ80 DC Vario and the only thing it has over this camera is it is light and nimble, unlike my wife.
The only other issue I have is buttons and switch gear are less intuitive than the Lumix.
I would recommend if you do not mind the heft.

Just got this Nikon P950 and I couldn't be more happier. I took a few pictures of the moon and it is so detailed and crisp that you can see all of the craters on the moon. I am happy I made this selection between the P1000 & P950. The P950 in my opinion is a better camera all around for less. I will update this post and share a few pictures I took and you can see how crisp the images are. Keep in mind, I didn't have a tripod yet when I took these images and it still came out excellent.
