    NINJA Goes Parcours

About 7 years ago, I purchased a NINJA as a gift to my partner. We’ve had many good years of use from the 1100 rpm driven machine but have a separate wet bar that will inherit the ‘old’ while the new 1400 rpm NINJA System will serve as our kitchen’s upgrade with expanded capabilities. In an effort to reduce the footprint of our many counter top appliances, the NINJA multi tasks like the ‘leatherman’ of food prep. Offering options to puree, chop, extract as well as to do frozen drinks, ice cream and smoothies, the base boasts a powerful torque without the weight of my 40 year old Cusinart whose tool kit is a severely diminished analog to my new update. The design of the base offers a slick and futuristic flat screen; so, there are no buttons and levers that, over time, become a depository of microbial gunk and a cleaning headache. At HQ, NINJA designers made a big effort to protect consumers from injury. The quick start manual and the more in depth guide to recipes asks that you READ before start up. After goofing up in the past, I learned that with next gen technology, it’s best to be mindful. Familiarity with operational details prevents frustration when trying to assemble interlocking parts, a signature feature of the NINJA product line. I tried all blades and functions in order to establish a basis for comparison with my old NINJA and a really old VITAMIX to determine if the system was a keeper. At start up, you will notice that the footings are true suction cups that ensure a stable, immovable platform when the engine is underway….the toughest suction I have ever experienced. Since I do a daily smoothie, I first explored the Single Serving Travel Mug with a carafe design similar to the BULLET’s but more slender and maybe taller. And, similarly, you fill up the cup with fruit, veggies and liquids to the fill line, twist on the blades and insert blade side down into the base for a quick blend. The value-added tool is the FRESHVAC System that attaches to the top of the travel cup. The promotional flyer states that the unit creates an unrivaled “smooth texture and rich taste… less foam and separation than traditional blending”. After the oxygen is drawn out before blending, I noticed all of the aforementioned as well as an increase in flavor; but, found it odd that the NINJA promotional text in the box doesn’t mention the most important motivator that compelled me to purchase. As a holistic practitioner, priority is that when oxygen is removed, the vitamins are protected from oxidation. Freshly blended fruits and veggies rapidly lose a high percentage of their nutritional value almost immediately after exposure to the air and heat of the blending process. In my estimation, this trick is what makes the system worth the extra bucks. The FRESHVAC Tech is built into the system’s large pitcher that accommodates larger volumes of smoothies, soups and dips. Generous that NINJA affords the consumer six batteries to drive the FRESHVAC; but, an A/C cord for the unit can be purchased a la cart. Must check the cord rating in the event I already have a match to avoid duplication of an item that can be repurposed. We already have too much post-consumer waste. I also noticed a significant feature in the design of the single serve travel cup’s rim. In contrast to the BULLET and other competitors, there are no ridges on the outside lip where the top screws down. Instead, the ridges are situated on the inside below the point where the mouth touches the rim. Voila! no need for an additional rim cover to eliminate uncomfortable encounters with a ragged edge while drinking your smoothie. One note of caution partly covered in the manual. If you have to add items you forgot on the first round, be careful that the FRESH VAC is seated correctly when blending in your adjustments on the second round of blending. The smoothie liquid could travel into the FRESH VAC but the manual says that a quick rinse and dry is the remedy. When I noticed leakage on the second round, I stopped the engine then made a note to call NINJA Customer Service to verify whether damage would have occurred had I continued blending without noticing that product was oozing out. Or, maybe additional guidance is required for using the FRESH VAC on a second round of blending. Next, I used the large pitcher for another trial smoothie. Once I discovered how to align the top with the pitcher, I was able to make a fast and furious smoothie. So, heads up to previous NINJA owners, matching the white arrow of the lid to the white arrow of the handle is no longer the key to align the cap with the pitcher to lock down the unit before blending. With this new (to me) version, match the curve of the pouring spout with the pouring spout of the top. But, interestingly, when I set out to lock down the large squat pitcher to puree and chop, I found a subtle gray toned arrow on the lid to match with a white arrow on the carafe. So, those with weaker vision who might miss the markers to be matched, be patient and look more closely with your kitchen lights on full blast. I caught the markings because I wore my new neck lamp that illuminated the manual and the details of the parts as I moved into unfamiliar territory. Finally, I proceeded to switch blades between tasks to handily make a very hard butternut squash into a fluffy mound similar to a mound of smashed sweet potato. I minced carrot for a salad then thinly sliced a batch of carrot rounds for a lentil soup as well as a blended ‘mole hill’ of chopped carrot, ginger and onion for a frittata. Bottom-line, since the machine can easily reduce a rock hard butternut squash, transforming chicken breast to burger (see recipe book) and almonds to milk will be a cinch. As well, looking forward to my own gourmet nut butter blends with chocolate nibs, vanilla/maple extracts, dried fruits and mix-ins that are now de rigeur but outrageously priced at our local health food stores. In the chop mode, I also mixed walnuts into a fig paste for an energy bar layered with raw tahini, sea salt and coconut shreds. And, don’t forget to do the riced cauliflower recipe for gluten free, low calorie sides and/or pizza crust. Emulate what you like then make your own and save! One last major benefit of the NINJA design is that clean-up is super easy since blades can be removed, allowing large hands to reach the very bottom of each pitcher. Easy blade removal means no crevices for harmful microbes to multiply. A (1) Year Limited Warranty is what you get. A longer warranty would be appreciated and/or options to extend the warranty, especially since competitors are at (3-7) Year warranties for blenders. Also, I will ask NINJA to consider defining a post-consumer waste recycling program

Has been great for making smoothies, grinding down and slicing items and has made food prep much easier. Has really cut down my food prep time - great system/kit. I would recommend grabbing another blender bottle if you have multiple folks using it in your household.

Expected less. Absolutely amazed and love how great it makes smoothies and taking out the CO2 out first. I love trying new things and we’ll worth every penny. My only con is: seems tricky to put it to work and having to put it a certain way on locking it to start the process

I purchased the Ninja - Smart Screen Kitchen System with FreshVac after trying and returning the 900 watt Magic Bullet NutriBullet. Which I don't like because there are no programmed options its 100% manual. The Ninja is powerful and has lots of options but the fresh vac system which sits on top of the 2 large containers but it sits on the bottom of the travel cup which started to leak through the little flap that allows the air to be sucked out and after 3 weeks the travel cup was unusable so I returned the unit. I plan to get the ninja system without the fresh vac

My daughter loves it. She can make her smoothies with no bubbles in it. She can also make her own hummus which is very good and when citing up cauliflower and broccoli we can put the stalk in the Ninja and not of any waste. It is the perfect kitchen accessory.

This a great set for anybody who needs blending and chopping functions in their kitchen! It is very versatile and takes the place of several other tools that I had in the kitchen. This kit comes with a blender, food processor, and cup attachment. The blender base automatically senses which attachment you place on the top of the blender base. Options for each individual attachment light up on the touch screen once powered on. Each piece of this set blends and chops food, even harder items, with ease. The set also comes with a vacuum attachment that attaches to either the cup or the blender. This pulls out oxygen keeping your blended items fresh for hours after blending them. It advertises that it works well for smoothies! All in all I am impressed with this Ninja product. I have other Ninja items in the house and they have never let me down! You get a quality product when you buy a Ninja!

I had to upgrade from my single smart Ninja blender. I had a smoothie small smart blender and it worked great but then started to have issues sensing if the cup was in there. it was 3 years old but never the less I upgraded and this one works great so far. It's a little quieter which is nice and it has great attachments but I haven't used them all yet.
