My daughter actually put a standard black 3DS on her Christmas list, but they have been phased out for the 3DS XL format. Being a gaming savvy shopper, it was tough -- would she want the larger format? Did I want to spend nearly $200 for a handheld that was going to be replaced in a few months with the next generation unit? Well, Christmas Day can't be postponed, so I held off as long as possible and was rewarded with a sale price (what the original 3DS cost) so I scored yet another bargain (typical of my Best Buy purchases). The unit itself turned out not to be unwieldly (a worry I had for my fashion/aesthetic conscious teenage girl)-- the bigger screens seem to be appreciated by her and she's spent hours playing Animal Crossing on it. Nintendo owns the handheld world and even though smartphones are invading the realm, I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about in that gaming market. Heck, we've owned every single Gameboy/DS ever created despite having the latest iPhones, and will probably continue to do so (my gamer kids are in high school/college!)

This was a gift for our son. He had the DSi, but wanted to upgrade. It is a little heavier, but it is a lot bigger! The screens are HUGE! And, I didn't know if I liked the 3D so much, but there is a slider where you can take it off 3D and only do 2D, or you can slide up to 3D for a slightly different image. The battery life is pretty long too. So many more options than on the DSi or the 2DS

The screen size is the biggest improvement from the earlier model and it may seem too big at first but is a good size. The battery life is doubled from the normal 3ds and makes it last a lot longer. Overall I really like it and this was totally worth 200 bucks when I played the ocarina of time remake. The internet features are nice and mostly smooth with loading pages and videos. If you had to pick between the xl and regular, go with the xl because of the pros it has over the regular. I am very careful with mine so i have no idea what would happen to it if it fell to the ground from like 4 feet, but it feels nice and durable in your hands. Another thing that is nice about it is that you can pop off the front and back color plates and swap them with your friends so you can have a blue front and a red back or vice versa. The AR cards are very fun and neat to play around with because of the camera's 3d features. NOTE: If you have people around you watching you play a 3ds game, you should turn off the 3d because it only looks good in 3d from 1 angle and at all other angles it looks pretty bad. But that is just how the 3d works so you cannot get around that. If you are upgrading from a nds, ds lite or dsi, I would recommend this instantly because you will be happy you did. I myself got this when I upgraded from a lite and am satisfied to my core with it. That is all

Gi bought this for my kidsand they play with it almost every day. This has good battery life. Large screen and lots of games to choose from.

I liked it better that original DS and 2DS, screen size is good in 3DS for kids and is fold-able which make it more portable. Only down side is the 3D capability which has to be permanently turned OFF for kids use, but the best part is you can set a pin to allow turning on 3D mode.

Love the 3ds xl screen size. It makes the games so much easier to play. The size of the device also makes handling it more comfortable.

The 3ds XL takes a good system and makes it great. The larger screens make games look incredible, you can really enjoy the 3D. The shape of the XL is a big improvement, less boxy and fits nicely into hands, plus the weight is more balanced over the regular 3ds. Well worth the price to upgrade. I use my 3ds XL twice as much due to the comfort on eyes and hands.

This in my opinion is the best hand held system out there. Graphics are excellent, the screen size is great, easy to see and hold and the games are great for it. Have been playing Animal Crossing practically every day since I got the 3DS XL. Has all the features you could expect in a hand held system. If you get it...get Animal Crossing to play on it.

I like the 3D capability of this system and the ease of being able to access online content. Games also look great on the console.

cool 3D effects and great games to go with it. much easier on the hands (though a little less portable) def recommend it.

Got this for my grandson who is moving up from a DS to this bigger screen, 3d model. He loves it. No issues at all.

Bought for my son, he had a ds wanted the 3ds. He loves playing with the 3d and of course the xl is a great bonus.

3DS has tons of review now so just know this - it has a lot of great games and amazing graphics. These days they are cheaper than ever. There's no good reason not to get one. If you haven't tried the 3D effect, swing by a store and do so. If you don't like it, no problem, no games require it and it is easily turned off.

Loved the definition, the bigger screen makes graphics look even better. Battery life is pretty decent too.

After holding both the 3DS and 3DS XL, the 3DS XL just feels better. The battery life is longer and the screen size is what makes the difference. Although most people don't use the 3D feature...I don't know why....but for those who do the images of your games just pop and this allows you to enjoy more detail.

While I enjoyed the original DS, and 3DS, I find I need a bigger screen to really seen what's going on. The 3DS XL has great size, making games like Super Smash Bros and Lego Batman 3 easy to see, play, and enjoy, allowing you to take in all their graphics. It holds a fairly significant change, though that varies depending upon how much 3D you use. Internet connectivity speeds are fast, allowing for easy downloads of updates and other products.
