To be fair, I can't remember a single game that did a good job with having a shadowed character that follows you about - they always get in the way, get stuck, or make things more difficult due to having to compensate for their relayed reactions to controls. Maybe you can make the spare Yoshi work for you - it is kind of a cool feature when it isn't busy being annoying. This also apparently makes a great cat toy. >_<
