Customers are saying
Customers have good things to say about the exploration, planets, open world, and universe size in No Man’s Sky, frequently citing the vastness and enjoyment of exploring the game's many planets and universe. However, many find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in content, with some also criticizing the game's story and value for the price. The sheer scale of the game's universe is a major draw for many players, but this is often offset by concerns about repetitive gameplay mechanics.

Good then not
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game starts off interesting. Weird planet, crashed ship, etc. This game is very fun in the beginning. Gathering resources, finding all the different types of species and seeing what they look like is cool. Then you realize they took like 20 animals and just chop them up and reassemble them on each planet to look slightly different each time. Game gets really repetitive really fast. No story except get to the center of the galaxy. I would pass on this one.

Sigh
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, yeah it wasn’t what was promised. And what was delivered at launch was far too shallow to justify the price tag. It’s gotten much better with updates, but you shouldn’t have to wait a year plus to get a decent game. HG has lost a fan in me, not just because of the seriously misleading hype but because they delivered their first game on a mainstream platform that was at best unfinished and at worst just plain bad. It gets 3 stars bc they’ve managed to remedy some of the issues (albeit extremely late)

Interesting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only put five hours into this game so far and it can get tedious. Been to a bunch of planets in one system and while different, they feel the same. Shoot some rocks, gather some plants and explore. Once bored get back to your ship and fly off and try to find another planet. I killed a big bug that almost killed me. Thought I could go harvest it for items. Nope. For people who love exploring and crafting items this will be right up your alley. If you like action and not doing the same thing over and over maybe pass on this one.

bad hype
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hype train ran off the track here. Space, A LOT of planets, name every, people thought multiplayer(never mentioned), explore and discover... The good is the space exploration. naming everything. So if you're looking for simple explore and discover game, here ya go. don't pay over $20 though. The bad would be everything else. There is ZERO story or ending. Graphics were crushed. Navigation is poor, you can have a group of symbols and where you been doesn't look different from a new location. Space fights are boring.

Pretty package but shallow.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The mechanic of infinite planets and system is amazing but it's dampened by repetitive quests, bland gameplay and basically no story.

I like it. But not LIKE like it.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you were living in a bubble and did not hear all the negative press the game received after being released, you would probably like it a lot. But the game was not what was promised and it gets quite repetitive. None the less it is fun to play and the technology behind it is pretty impressive. I love the discovery of planets and the animals it creates. If you can get it cheap, it can prove to be a nice time killer. I did, however, eventually stop playing it and did not reach the ending.Maybe for another time.

Explore a universe, mine resources...repeat..
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been looking forward to this game for YEARS! Finally it comes out and it's pretty sweet. Jump from planet to planet discovering different flora and fauna, alien landmarks, trading stations, abandon star ships, bases, etc. I played this beast for 12 hours straight as soon as I got it. The problem, after a good 2-5 play sessions of that length, you start to realize a LOT of gaming elements are reused over and over again - especially the various tasks on each planet. Side Note: Free DLC updates will be adding in more end game content - such as buying freighters and building bases.

Completely open world.....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like open world games and thought this would be good also. It is. To an extent. At first figuring out is a bit tricky as no manual or guide of any kind and learning to build things is a task in itself since no guide or explanation(good thing for internet and youtube videos). Full discovery of new planets and naming things, plants, rocks, animals, planet, moon, galaxy is cool but does get a bit repetitively boring. Overall it is good and graphics and expanse of universe is un-ending. Bad=repetitive with the full searching and naming of evvverryythhiinng....

not worth the wait
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game seemed really interesting at first but the more I played the worse it gets. Gameplay rating is low because I don't want to fall asleep with the controller in my hands

Interesting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Personally, I really enjoy this game! It's all about exploration and discovering new galaxies, planets, animals, plants, life forms, etc. The only qualm I have: I somehow navigated myself away from the main story that's available and can't find my way back to it. There seemed to be a lot more promised features, but the company did not deliver many of them. Be sure to read blogs and reviews about the game first before buying. Like I said, I personally like the slow/discovery gameplay, so I really enjoy it. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, though.

Some will love it, some won't
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love open ended, exploration type games, especially with discovery and space elements. That said, this game greatly disappointed me. This game is really a survival game with exploration elements mixed in.... similar to games like The Long Dark and others of the like. The game does not come instructions nor any real tutorial, I probably spent about an hour just learning how to really do everything in the game from a control standpoint, and then the next 5 trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. I think this game would be more fun with an actual multiplayer element involved and something of a quest system other than the "you run into this guy and he wants 10 units of something you've already got" type things. Pros: Amazing graphics and music Open Ended Exploration Great concept and potential Cons: Not really engaging, didn't feel there was a point to anything I was doing Lack of peripherals in the box, no instructions, online references, etc. Has online aspects, but no point to them given the size, scale, scope of the game and lack of any need (in current state) for multiplayer I resold my copy, I'd consider buying it again once the price drops to the $20 range and possibly some more "things to do" in the game are opened up.

Lower Your Expectations and you'll have fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There was so much hype surrounding 'No Man's Sky' when it launched, expectations were so high which led to a lot of people being disappointed. It's a fun exploration game but don't go looking to it for intense ship-to-ship combat, deep role playing elements or action. It's a classic exploration game with a distinct style. I bought it on sale and wouldn't pay more than $25 for it. For that price you'll love it.

Explore space
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a great addition to the collection for any person enjoying space exploration. You fly from galaxy to galaxy and explore planets within each of the galaxies solar systems. On a planet, you face a variety of environmental conditions and discover new wildlife (and naming them too!). The game becomes monotonous after a few weeks, so ensure you play a few hours a week as to not lose interest too quick.

No exactly what I expected...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To say this game fell below expectations would be the understatement of the year, but I don't think it's our fault. If you watch a lot of interviews with the head developer of the game, we were sold a slightly different vision than what we ended up with. For starters - pretend no other players exist because you will never see them...ever. No matter what! (Unless they ever patch the game and add it). Don't expect that. It's a survival game above all else but really it's just making sure you mine the create stuff on the planet in order to fill a tank basically. You are just constantly filling tanks for either survival items like your life support or suit, but also to simply fly your plane. Space combat is tough. Even with an upgraded ship, if there is more than one enemy, it's tough to win. I could have an even deeper review but if you just want a chill game that is a solo adventure that you want to catalog crazy creatures and planets in various planets and galaxies, this is the game for you. For right now, that's really about all you will get. It's not great or bad, you just have to manage that expectation.

Situational and Varies Person to Person
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello Games has made a huge and very interestingly mysterious universe. It truly is massive and for those looking to relax and accept this game for what it is, that being an exploration/ trading/ upgrading type game, then you will enjoy it well enough! On the other hand I can't give it a perfect rating for it can become monotonous at times with similar play styles for a large variety of planets. My overall experience is one of enjoyment however and for many of you the case may very well be the same.

A Mixed Opinion
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm sort of torn on this game. There is a lot of hate because of the huge list of items that weren't in the game (like sand planets or landing on asteroids), but to be honest, it was fun to play. For those that are really into an experience where you wander the unknown and discover things on your own, then this is for you. It's a lot of fun to explore planets, even if they feel a bit empty sometimes. The AI on the sentinels is a little stupid sometimes and it can be easy to avoid them, but it makes for hilarious interactions. Overall, it's up to you. Is it worth the price? In my opinion, not really. Would I pay $30 for it? Definitely. There's a lot in the trailers that didn't quite make it into the game, but if you go in not expecting a lot (like me) or expecting a relaxing game of just exploring, it is pretty fun! As things stand now, they are updating the game to have new features, so i feel a but optimistic, but take that with a grain of salt. TL;DR - I enjoyed it (even lacking certain features), but it's not exactly worth more than $30 in my opinion.

Wow! Talk about vast!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I won't talk about the 18 quintillion planets, because you've already read that stuff, but I will mention the sheer vastness (Can't think of a "bigger" term to use) of this game. Open world games are fun because you aren't confined to certain areas of a map and aren't "told" by a developer, where you are supposed to go in the game. So think of Far Cry 4 as a pretty large open world game...now imagine 18 quintillion far cry "worlds" in one game...wow, is it vast! Now that being said, I find myself wishing the variations of these different "worlds" was 1/10th or even 1/1000th as vast, because many of the planets resources and fauna etc. are very similar from one to another, and I find myself falling asleep while searching for that one element I need for my next upgrade. I will probably never see or explore a system that anyone else has ever been to, and the systems I've discovered will probably never be seen by any of you, and that is what I mean when I say vast. Overall, I love the concept of this game, and I do find myself getting lost in the universe. The grinding for materials and "units" (the games money) can get boring, or it can be therapeutic, depending on how I choose to look at it, but if you like the type of game you randomly think about during the day, or find yourself calling in sick to stay home and play, then pick up a copy, and realize...just how alone we all are.

Fun for a bit

Has some fun to it, but gets repetitive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoyed the game for a while, but it got repetitive very quickly. Basically it comes down to mining minerals to sell so you can buy more inventory space, so you can mine more minerals, and buy even more inventory space. I saw some really cool planets and creatures, and the exploration can be fun. I'd just like more things to actually do in the game.
