Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the exploration, planets, open world, and universe size in No Man’s Sky, frequently citing the vastness and enjoyment of exploring the game's many planets and universe. However, many find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in content, with some also criticizing the game's story and value for the price. The sheer scale of the game's universe is a major draw for many players, but this is often offset by concerns about repetitive gameplay mechanics.

This game is very interesting. The ability to explore new planets and fly there on your own is very fun. You collect resources everywhere you go in order to survive. However, this game has no story, and can get boring very fast unless you're into exploration games

Game has a great concept but lacks. No multiplayer currently, no real mission objectives. The immense universe allows for big expansion. Hopefully updates will improve it. I'm a big Space fan so I enjoy the game but it gets tiresome after a few hours of play.

Obviously, as most people have said, this game was initially a huge disappointment. The huge updates they are rolling out have helped give the game more depth and a sense of worth. I still occasionally play the game, but not for more than a couple hours at a time. I am recommending, but with a huge asterisk. Only for players who enjoy loneliness and inventory management.

I was excited to get this game but that excitement didn't last. I was disappointed at how repetitive it seems overall. Yes, the different planets are a different landscape but the objective appears to be the same on each one. Gather supplies, craft and improve suit and ship. The mission seems to be to reach the core and the closer you get the harder it becomes. There is not really any other objective that I can see. It is a very massive game and there's no doubt you can while away your hours and still not get very far. I wish there was more problem solving built into the game. It would also be nice if you could interact with other online players. Although that might be rare since the game is so big it is possible. The game is just you and different species of aliens in a vast universe. I've spend hours upon hours exploring this game. I've conquered a few systems and plenty of planets. Maybe others have gotten further and there is more to it. I just didn't experience that. Was it worth the original price of the game? Probably not. If you want to save some money you could wait and buy it when the price goes down.

Everyone is bashing the repetition of this game but when you just want to chill and explore, it's got that and then some. Don't expect Mass Effect storylines or Call of Duty action. Expect to take in a lot of scenery, manage some resources and travel the space ways looking for cool stuff. That's what hooked me in to it.

I can only write about No Man's Sky from the point of view as a person who didn't pay full price for it. If I were to pay $60 dollars for this game, I would be mad at the content of the game. Since I paid under $20 for this game I feel it's a great value. Having said all that let's get to the problem at hand here. This game was promised to be so many things and of those promises only a handful were met. It's both sad and enraging because there was so much potential that just wasn't there. If you can borrow a copy or play at a friends house then do that but I wouldn't say it's a must buy. It's just a so-so game that's good for some but not good for all.

Heard all the hype, but did not really pay much attention to it. The game is for exploration and seeing weird stuff and choosing what you want to do. I hunt for words and drones on my quest to find a beautiful planet. Can't imagine how terrible it would be if I ran into gaggles of other gamers in game.

I have been waiting for this game for a long time. The way it was being described it was going to be one of the best games on the PS4. Explore infinite number of planets as you make your way to the center of the universe. After finally getting off the first planet I was excited to see what the next one would look like. While the next one was different, it felt the same as the first. You mine the same materials and you see the same aliens over and over and over...........I lost interest very quickly and I usually try to give a game some time to grow on me but just couldn't do it. If I want to see game highlights, I just check out Youtube vids.

This game had a lot of hype on the way up to its release. After its release it turned into what some might say were broken promises and under developed mechanics. People need to realize this wasnt a 1st party development house doing it. The game was made by a small indy company. Now that that is out of the way. The base game is very shallow. The mechanichs are good but you can tell that some of the elements in the game were rushed to gold. Currently the developer is mums about any updates so I wouldnt buy this. If you already have the game and enjoy inventory management and exploration the game should still hit on all cylenders for you. For the other people that expected a lot more. Im sorry. Hopefully one day this game will live up to the standards that the hype train made for it.

This game is ok as long as you know what you're getting. It's Minecraft across many planets and universes. You explore and find crafting materials. That's it. My son can play it for hours, but I get bored of it...

Basically no mans sky has no story. But it does have a purpose at the center of the game : to explore. And that's fun thing for some people. You get to self insert into this character and explore the universe and discover never ending expansions of creatures and species.

Now that the game has had time to evolve more, and receive updates, I was finally ready to give it a chance. Now that the game can be had, for roughly $30-$35, it's well worth it. Sure, the game didn't meet expectations of most of the early adapters... though I'm not sure any game could have. There were definitely some missing features, that were promised though. Some of those features are still absent, and probably always will be, but knowing that, going in, I was at a much better place, to accept this game for what it was. The exploration is fun, and while it could use some more variety, I do find myself able to chill, after raging on the latest FPS. It's easy to end up checking the clock, and realizing hours have passed. If you accept this game, for what everyone knows it to be, you'll have plenty of chill time, for a little investment. Be careful of your expectations though

No Mans Sky is a lot of fun to explore and discover new things, after the first few planets it gets a little repetitive though. There's a decent variety on each planet but nothing really different to do.

This game gets a bad reputation because of a lot of things that were promised or expected to be there, like multiplayer interactions, that then weren't in the final game. But if you just play it for what it is, it's actually a pretty fun game. I enjoyed going through the process of upgrading my suit and ship and finding resources to get those things done. There is quite a variety of planetary environments, although all of it does become repetitive after a while. There's an infinite number of combinations for plant and wildlife but they all just kind of look the same after a while. But for a good 20-30 hours I was still having fun flying my ship around from planet to planet and gathering resources and building upgrades. A lot of other games don't give you more than 10-15 hours these days. I don't know if it's worth it at $60, but at $35-40 I would definitely recommend buying it.

So, after 6 weeks of owning this game, I can say that while I enjoy the exploration aspect of it, that's all there is really. But if you're looking for a game that lets you chill, this is it.

If you're expecting a deeply rich story and action-fueled gameplay, this is not the game for you. No Man's Sky is a slow-paced exploration game that features mining as a main player function. Now, what it does, it does well. NMS is essentially a choose your own adventure game. Want to go upgrade your ship, backpack, and multi-tool? go do it. Want to pirate ships and loot? go do it. Want to spend hours on one planet and discover every minute detail? go do it. I can totally understand the main criticisms that this game has received - the hype train was strong with this one. However, I've enjoyed my time playing NMS. It's allowed me to exercise my imagination like no other game has.

I followed No Man's Sky for years. At first I was unbelievably hyped for the game. Then I started noticing the same type of stuff being shown in all the trailers. The question on everyone's mind was "What do you do?" but the dev's assured everyone that wouldn't be an issue in the final game. Things started to smell fishy to me and the hype was driving some people mad, so I withdrew from the hype train and kept realistic expectations. Launch day I picked up this game fully knowing what I was going into. At first, I enjoyed my time in No Man's Sky. It was pretty and it was interesting to explore. Once I left the first star system, I quickly realized how much of a drag playing this game is (I stopped playing around 15 hours in.) The constant need to repair your warp drive and materials, the repetitive gameplay, and little payout for exploring and completing tasks ruined the game for me. I dont think any amount of content updates could change the bland state the vanilla game is in. Luckily I managed to sell the game before the vicious attacks on the game started and I got most of my money back. Rest assured though, this game is NOT worth $60, maybe $20-30 at most. I would recommend reading some reviews first and making sure you're getting a good deal on the game before purchasing.

I might not call it a game though really, its more like an exploratory experience. There's a few objectives and lots of interesting things to find, but no real story-line. It's more of a wander about exploring and mining kind of thing.

For what it is, it's really great. You explore, you fly around, you see things people have literally never seen before. If you're looking for base building, combat, interaction with other players, etc you're going to be disappointed.
