Customers express satisfaction with the SHIELD TV's streaming capabilities, performance speed, and ease of use. Many also praise the 4K picture quality and the device's ability to handle gaming. However, some users note that the remote control may take time to get used to, and the price point is a consideration for some customers. A few users mentioned occasional lag and the lack of Dolby Vision support as drawbacks.

I've had the Google Nexus Player since it was released, and liked it so much i have one on every tv! Last week i upgraded to a 4k hdr tv so i bought the Nvidia Shield being that its is 4K and HDR ready, and I'm glad i did it blows every Android Tv box out of the water! I've had all of the best Android boxes and there are some really good ones out there, i also have an Android OS intel Nuc in my theater room that is great, but there is no comparison what so ever when it comes to they capability of the Nvidia, I should've gotten one sooner!

Fast, speedy, responsive, and great support. It is frequently updated with the latest android TV software/firmware. You can even get a TV tuner and external hard drive to turn this into a OTA DVR! If the only thing you want to do is stream/watch video from the main services (netflix, amazon, hulu, youtube, etc), then this is probably overkill. But if you're willing to do a little research and play around with all functionality the Shield has to offer, it is the best combined streaming/media/gaming box out there.

I wish I had bought this earlier instead of all the money I've invested in other lower cost streamers. One streamer was ok to stream one or two things, but I'd have to get another brand to stream one or two other things. I had Roku's and Fires, and Apple and remotes all over, and some of the streamers didn't have that good of a picture. The Nvidia Shield lets me have all my streaming in one place with a good speed and great picture and sound. And one remote.
What's not to love?

Nvidia Shield Android TV streaming box offers just about every must-have app, including Amazon Video, and many include 4K along with HDR. It's a versatile gaming platform. Voice search and interactivity, from controller or remote, work well. It has Google Assistant.
More expensive than competing streamers. Not as many 4K and HDR apps as Roku, and no access to first-tier games without streaming from a PC.
the addition of Amazon finally makes it a viable high-end alternative to Roku.

I've tried a lot of the other streamers and i feel SHIELD is the most capable.
4K HDR catalog is great because SHIELD has Netflix, Amazon Video and Vudu in HDR.
Youtube experience is better than other streamers - you have full search integration, but you can even say show me the latest Tonight Show or ask to play any Music Video and it just direct plays into the Youtube Video. It also seems youtube on SHIELD supports 360 so you can use your remote to see shows in 360 on SHIELD. i know neither of this works on my Roku or Fire TV.
I also use Plex and it seems SHIELD is the only streamer that supports Plex as a client and server device.
Finally, it is nice that SHIELD has also integrated Samsung Smartthings Hub. I am just started to set up a smart home in my home and it is nice that i can turn on/off my lights via my SHIELD, and set routines through Samsung Integration.
I know it is a bit more expensive than other streamers, but i use my streamer more than 10 hours a week so i think it is worth the extra money.

Fast and easy to set up. Great to use! Pairs with PS4 controller if you do not have the NVIDA Shield controller. Fast streaming for games if you use ethernet connection on back. Excellent for 4K content. I like the included remote, easy to control play/pause and volume levels. Note that the remote is not rechargeable, requires new coin battery when levels low. Approaching 1 year, and have not had to replace battery yet.

I like the voice control and the ability other play PC games on the TV. 4k streaming is also great. Plenty of option to add apps from the play store. Could use more storage, I just added a flash drive. Works great.

I would have figured by now that Android with such a LARGE catalog ro choose from would have way more apps than what is available for Android TV. It does have the basics though. The Shield is amazing, doesn't feel too cheap and is nice and small so not a large footprint. It plays videos online and offline well. The user interface is pretty user friendly and doesn't look bad either. I would have probably given it 5 stars if it weren't for the lack of apps (I know it's not really their fault). definitely would buy again if this one ever breaks. It works 10x better for gaming than the Steam Shield does as it literally does what that does and more. I think once the app market opens up a but more for Android TV, the Shield will be a force to be reckoned with in the streaming department .

While there have been a few devices running offical Android TV like googles own Nexus player and Xaomi's Mi box, nothing works as well as the Shield, nothing still has the same level of support to this day as the Shield, nothing has the same power to play anything you throw at it like the Shield. This thing is a beast when it comes to playing any media. The only downside is a really poorly designed remote for the unit which while is a shame, is not a deal breaker.

This hardware is a couple of years old now and it still has great performance and beats most other hardware for playability. The interface is much fresher now and this device plays just about everything you can throw at it.

Despite its souped-up specs, the Shield feels more like a glimpse into the future of set-top boxes rather than its arrival. Loading up a 4K video or playing a AAA title with a controller is mostly good for showing off to friends, rather than something you'll spend hours on—there's just not much available yet in the way of endless entertainment. Android TV unfortunately seems to mirror Android Wear: its development is moving along slowly, and as a result, it hampers the potential of the hardware running it. For now, 4K, PC, and general hardware enthusiasts looking for a cheaper outlay than building a home-theater PC are more likely to squeeze regular utility out of the Shield. Folks looking for a solid, future-proofed set-top box should wait.
