I was anxious to review and put the Nyne Rock Bluetooth, water resistant speaker through the motions. It's light enough to carry with one hand as it has a built-in handle. The speaker weighs in at 12 lbs, which makes it pretty portable. It's rhombus shaped and does take up a bit of shelf space, so you will need a little extra room. The Nyne Rock has a partial rubberized exterior which should resist scrapes and scuffs. The speaker does have a metal grill covering and I advise that you should not bump the grill too hard, or you'll surely put dents in it. The Nyne Rock boasts covered ports, making it splash and dirt-proof. Controls are neatly arrayed across the top, under silicone that glows white (blue for hands-free button) through the buttons while the speaker is on. Devices can connect wirelessly to the Nyne Rock via Bluetooth. Pairing was painless, quick and simple. The connection to Bluetooth is indicated by a beep (two beeps when you disconnect). Cable ports are located on the back of the Nyne Rock, underneath a lid with has a silicone gasket. There are 3.5 mm connections for line in/out, as well as a 5 V / 1 A USB output to charge devices (only while the speaker is on). The speaker itself recharges through a wall adapter, and has a series of 5 LEDs which light up to show an estimate of how much power is left when you press the little button. To conserve energy the speaker automatic shuts off after five minutes of inactivity. The Nyne Rock features a built-in microphone for hands-free voice conversation which is great. If you're sitting within a few feet and project your voice towards the Rock, you'll come through clearly. There's no static, muffling, or sounding like you're speaking through a tube, hallway or barrel (and vice-versa). The Rock's Bluetooth wireless performance is generous, maintains a solid and unwavering connection up to the listed 100 foot distance. After being turned on, the speaker looks to connect with the last known device. Included with the Nyne Rock is documentation, an audio cable, the wall adapter, and an assortment of international plug tips. Nice and simple. The Nyne Rock has an edgy appearance. Battery life is advertised at 10-12 hours of playtime, which should be long enough to outlast your pool party or your outing to the beach. You can also charge your cell phone with this speaker. Overall the Nyne Rock makes music fun and enjoyable to listen to. The speaker is well suited for outdoor activities, and wide open spaces. If you're looking for greater depth or richness of sound, there are other speakers better suited to the task. I performed a side by side test of the Nyne Rock and a smaller cylindrical Bluetooth speaker. I will refrain from listing the name of the other speaker, but the smaller speaker sounded much more crisp and sharper during my testing. You should know that I'm an audiophile and have a very discriminate ear. Please don't get me wrong, if you are not putting a very critical ear to it, overall the Nyne Rock will satisfy you and certainly meet your needs. I think most consumers will be happy with the Nyne Rock. Enjoy your music.

This speaker has nice sound, very light and portable and has pretty good battery life.

So the nyne rock speakers is great light weight and is last a good 8 hours of battery life. Comes with aux and a usb ports, the only downside to it is the bluetooth range, what makes up to that is how loud it is.

After a great deal of research, YouTube videos, etc., I decided to try the Nyne Rock XL. I soon realized it is a very good BlueTooth speaker. Its sound quality is not quite as clear as the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio that I also own. But the HK Onyx Studio's battery life is so short, you can't really use it as a portable speaker for any length of time. I was very happy with the battery life, sound quality and loudness of the Nyne. So much so, I'm thinking of getting a second one. I would, and have, recommended the Nyen to friends.

Being that I never heard of this brand I didn’t know what to expect. Wow! The souls is clear and crisp, the loudness is awesome and it looks super nice. All in all a great buy!

This Bluetooth speakers - "ROCKS" - out by the pool it plays loud and has great response. Also, wonderful for my home office and streaming music and sports. I would recommend it for either in-door or out-door usage. A value at the price!!!!

The Nyne Rock bluetooth speaker is near the top of its category in terms of a powerful bluetooth speaker capable of reaching very loud volumes ideal for outdoor events like pool parties and barbecues. In order to deliver those loud sounds, the physics demanded that the speaker must be proportionately large. The speaker measures 21.2” wide x 6.5” high x 9.7” depth and weighs in at a tad over 10 lbs. I'm not sure why the Best Buy specs are incorrectly stating that its 12 lbs, and how every other reviewer seemed to just blindly follow suit with this number without validating the actual weight, but I weighed the speakers and also checked this against the specifications in the instruction manual which lists it at 4.6kg or 10.1 lbs. For those who do all their shopping online without physically going into a store to look at a product, take note that this speaker is massive. The speaker is advertised as being portable, but portability here is definitely used very loosely in the sense that you can pick up the speaker and still be able to transport it (If we apply this definition, then most consumer electronics are portable), but keep in mind that the Nyne Rock won't fit in your backpack, purse, or most bags for that matter....in other words it may be portable but its far from being compact. In terms of build quality, the Nyne Rock is designed to be very rugged and the hard black plastic and rubbery shell will handle some of the elements such as light bumps and water splashes. The rubber foot pads of the speakers are very grippy and is slip resistant even on wet surfaces. Speakers are well protected from the elements with the metal grills. The control buttons are all lined up at the top of the speakers and will be lighted for the duration that the speaker is turned on. Buttons are standard: power, bluetooth connect/phone answer, play/pause, skip forward, skip reverse, volume up and down. On the rear of the speakers and hidden in a compartment door are the connectivity outlets and battery meter. In this area you will find the aux-in, line-out, usb 5V/1A built-in powerbank smartphone charge socket, power outlet for the ac adapter, and a battery level indicator that displays remaining charge. The sound quality of the Nyne Rock is very good. The specifications state that the speakers are powered by 2x12.5W mid-range drivers, 2x5.5W tweeters, and 1x25W subwoofer. The sound spectrum is well represented, but a little weighted toward the treble frequencies. For a unit of this size, I was surprised that the bass is not overpowering even as the volume is turned up. The bass is clearly audible, but it is not bass heavy. In fact turning up the volume seems to make the higher audio frequency range more pronounced. Even though the Nyne Rock is more than capable of cranking out the loud sounds, you want to refrain from having the music playing at the loudest volume setting because the unit will distort the sounds at that volume. Keep it a few volume notches under, the music will still be loud, and you won't get that distortion. Another thing to take note is that the speaker will emit an audible hissing noise at high volume settings when no music is playing. The speaker is easily connected via bluetooth/NFC. All my devices were able to quickly find the Nyne Rock on bluetooth and connect almost instantaneously. Also, if you like things hardwired, you can connect to the speakers with a 3.5mm audio cable. The specs state that play time lasts anywhere from 10-12 hours on a single charge. In my testing, I was able to get around 12 hours with the Nyne Rock at the mid-volume setting. Obviously, if you are playing music at the loudest volume setting or charging your phone with it, you will drain the battery quicker. So in summary, the Nyne Rock is an awesome bluetooth speaker for those scenarios where you need to have some seriously loud audio for parties and outdoor settings. It is a large speaker that can be obtrusive in a small room and will occupy quite a bit of real estate on desks, dressers, bookshelves, and such. In these kind of cases, I would recommend the more typical, smaller bluetooth speakers where they are truly considered portable and still have decent audio quality and volume. But every bluetooth speaker has its place and function, and the Nyne Rock feels most comfortable being the life of the party!

Could be louder but has great sound. Fits our home perfectly for it size.

I bought this as a graduation present. I'm now the favorite uncle! The bass is good. The music presents great in the outdoors. I'm sure my nephew will have this around for all of his camping and trips to the lake for years to come.

Intro: While not inexpensive, the Nyne Rock is a good choice for a portable music system for a variety of outdoor activities. It features good sound, good Bluetooth range, and great battery life, and has nice plus-ups like a water-resistant enclosure, and illuminated audio control buttons. Sound: The Nyne Rock features well-balanced, though not exceptional, sound quality. It has competent low end, though bass-heads may not be satisfied. Mids and highs are smooth and not shrill or harsh. Not the most detailed audio I've ever heard, but more than good enough for its intended purpose. Gets loud, though it starts to encounter distortion at higher (80%+) volume levels depending on the music. It's loud enough for outdoor activities like camping, cookouts, or beach days. Bluetooth: While Nyne advertises 33ft Bluetooth range, in my experience you can only achieve that (or close to it) outdoors, with the Bluetooth device sitting on a table or other open platform. Putting your phone in your pocket, for example, cuts the range in half. Not the speaker's fault; it's just physics. Under "normal" conditions - phone sitting on a table or in your hand vs. your pocket - the speaker reliably achieves 20ft range. The Nyne rock has a set of illuminated playback controls along the top, allowing you to remotely control play/pause, next/previous track, and volume. Battery: Nyne advertises 10 hour battery life; I've been running it for 12 hours at moderate volume and the battery indicator still shows 50% remaining. It's nice to test a device where the battery life exceeds the rating; normally battery-powered devices say 6 hours and give you 4. The Nyne Rock also has a built-in USB port for charging a connected phone (it does not support USB digital audio). The internal battery is charged using an included 18V power adapter, which features an international plug set. Appearance/Enclosure: The Nyne Rock is very solidly built, and has a nicely textured finish, giving the speaker a feeling of being well-made. It's water resistant, and includes a gasketed door over the connectors for charging, USB, and aux input on the back. There's a carrying handle on the back, making the speaker much easier to carry. Nitpicking: The volume control buttons on the Nyne Rock only change the speaker's own volume - the playback volume on your phone will *not* change when you increase/decrease volume with the speaker's buttons. (This is one of my pet peeves - I dislike having to adjust volume on the phone *and* on the speaker - but it can be worked around easily.). It would be nice to have a volume level indicator, since there's no way of knowing how loud the speaker wants to be when you first start playing music (because it has a separate volume control from the phone). The battery level indicator is under the access panel door on the back, and only lights when you press a button - would have been nicer to have it up on top where the playback/volume controls are, and have it show either all the time or for a few seconds after you press one of the playback control buttons. None of these criticisms are deal-breakers, though.

We use it on the job at home and I'm happy with the device
