I run a small non-profit in my spare time and we have gradually expanded some of our fundraising and presentation events so that now I can't quite cover everyone just by using my voice. Also, we were in need of something that would truly fill a room with sound, whether it was announcements of just music. There are a lot of different devices that would do this, everything from karaoke machines to regular speakers, but the Nyne X-Series Rock ticks off all of my requirements in one cool package. I have owned a Nyne Mini for a couple of years now and had never heard of them prior to finding it on sale at a local store and buying it on a whim. I was pretty surprised at how much sound that thing was able to put out. It is a little powerhouse and is very nicely put together. When I started looking for something for our non-profit to use I hadn't thought of Nyne because all of the ones I had seen before were rather small, then I found out about the X-Series and specifically the Rock. Once I read the specs, I knew that this would probably do the trick and knowing Nyne, they would probably surprise me again. And they did! The Rock (I kind of want to say this like Sean Connery), is a beast of a speaker. It can fill a VERY large auditorium with sound and do so without sounding too boomy. In addition, it is very portable and not too flashy. We wanted something that would do the job but not call too much attention to itself, and while it is nice and sleek and an almost stealth like speaker it does call attention to itself when people come up and ask us where we got the Nyne X-Series Rock. Normally I like to throw in some negatives into a review just to be as honest as possible but I'm really having a hard time thinking of any since it does everything I've asked it to and done it well. That being said, I did read that some people are not getting the advertised battery life out of their speaker but anyone should know that that is going to be heavily dependent on a whole bunch of factors. We have always used ours plugged in because I knew that I would be stressing the battery with the volume and the length of use and it's not worth the risk to have it drop off in the middle of something important. So with that being said, I don't have anything bad to say about the Rock. If you are looking for the modern equivalent of an 80's boombox, this will do the job nicely. I kind of really want to throw this up on my shoulder and crank out some Grandmaster Flash! Wow, I think I may have just shown off my age. What I meant to say is that I really want to blast out some Justin Bieber. No, wait... that's worse. Nevermind. If you have need of some serious sound, you will not go wrong with the Nyne X-Series Rock.

This speaker is awesome for BBQ and pool parties. Overall it is a great speaker, but it is not for every type of music out there. It is bass heavy and lacks crispness and clarity at higher volumes. Range is nice on this as well, I was able to get more than 80ft via bluetooth without quality issues. Battery life is nice but you need to keep it at 50% or below to achieve this. Power bank is great as well. It has a built in USB port to charge accessories and phones. You can also chain this together with other speakers using the AUX out port with a regular 3.5mm jack. Pros -NFC Pairing - easily pairs with any phone that has NFC. If you are an iPhone user, you lose out HAHA. -Build Quality - when you hold this, it is built ROCK solid. The rubberized coating is nice to the touch. -Water Resistant - rain or shine, this speaker does the job. -Power Bank - great for keeping your phone charged. Great value other speakers do not provide. -Powerful and Loud - this is NOT good for indoor, but outdoors this shines. You will definitely have music outside if that is what you want. -Chainable - you can chain this speaker to other speakers via the AUX output -Call Speakerphone - great if you don't care if everyone hears your conversation. Caller hears you crystal clear if you are within 5 ft of the speaker. Past that you sound "far away" in my wife's terms. Cons Battery Life - It is advertised at 8 hours. If you keep it at or under 50% volume you will achieve that. It is more like 3.5 hours at full power. Bass Heavy - For me this is good, but again for some it may be a turn off. It sacrifices mids for bass in my opinion -Not Crisp - This leaves lots to be desired in the clean and crisp sound department. It is loud, but anything over 50% volume you lose the clean sound you will look for. -Mids Lacking - Mids are not that great. You will find this is great for hip hop, rap, jazz, reggaeton, and music as such. Not great for rock and other music with mid range instruments -Size - Some may think this is a large speaker, for me it is perfect -=VERDICT=- Buy if you are ONLY using this outside and want water resistant speaker. Not for everyone who cares about clarity and crisp mid range. Not good sound indoors.

It is big not as loud as expected for the size and max volume is not that clear

I've had this incredible speaker for about a week. First it was easy to pair with my phone, iPad, Samsung tablet......etc. Once paired I put on some Van Halen, and the sound blew me away. I now use this exclusively as my home stereo. It's that good. I also connected to my TV, movies now really come to life, just like being in a theatre. I found the sound and volume to be so good, it can't be cranked all the way up, it's just too loud. For the price, this is the speaker to get. So get it.

When I saw this I pictured this speaker to be smaller also considering it is called a portable speaker. When I got this delivered to my door I was shocked how big this is. Sound great and it is also water resistant with all the important plugs sealed so water can't easily get into it. The only issue I have with the speaker which is why I gave it 4 stars is because you need a special AC adapter to power it instead of something more universal like USB C.

This speaker definitely packs a punch. It's so loud I couldn't even turn it up to max in my living room. The bass is rattling. It's bulkier than I had anticipated. Kinda heavy at 12ish pounds. It's about the size of a portable Sony radio back in the day. The size it the only reason I gave it a 4. Other wise for sound and price it gets a 5

I have to say that this is a great speaker. It is very loud and clear. I like the rubberized feel of it which makes it very durable. The bluetooth connection was effortless and the mic worked fine for the phone. One thing I want to point out is that this speaker is bigger than I expected, so I had to clear some storage space for when it is not in use.

The battery only lasts about up to 3hrs being fully charged. Not loud enough for the price. Will be returning

This thing is built well! Its sturdy and can handle moving around and some of the jarring and spills that an outdoor speaker can get. The setup is super easy and it has great battery life. The audio/sound quality was my main concern. I have zero complaints about the sound. This is not a high end sound system mind you, but it takes care of the lows, mid's and highs just fine and can provide enough sound for everyone at the deck, yard or pool party. I also use it indoors since beaming my music via bluetooth is so easy. I also now use it as a surround sound type speaker to enhance audio for movies on my laptop!

The is a great and powerful portable speaker I've tried. The speaker produces great bass and decent volume outdoors. In addition, I've noticed this is wonderful for a large indoor environment as the sound is clear and loud. I love the fact that NFC pairing is available for bluetooth. The distance and connectivity is reliable without any choppiness. Definitely worth the investment.

The Nyne rock truly is a massive speaker that impressed me on many fronts. I've used numerous Bluetooth speakers from pure sounding Bose speakers to the rugged Altec Lansing brand. The Nyne rock is entirely different that most speakers though purely by the size of this beast. The massive size of this speaker was much bigger than even I was expecting. However, for me, this was a great thing as I already have the normal run of the mill speakers and wanted something to really output massive sound for portable outdoor settings. This speaker gives the feeling of an old school boombox with the more rugged and sleek feel of Bluetooth speakers today. For outdoor listening, this speaker definitely rises above other speakers for the pure sound that it can output due to its size. Listening outdoors up to around 30 feet or so this speaker sounds great. The only slight negative for this speaker though is the fact that when listening indoors the bass can overpower the mids as the ideal environment is outdoors, but the speaker by no means sounds bad indoors. Overall though I definitely would recommend this speaker for those who already have a smaller more portable Bluetooth speaker and looking for something with a little more power.

This speaker is great for a day outside no matter the setting. I use the USB with a USB multi port to power a Chromecast audio and keep my phone from dying. Works great. This thing gets loud and can over power a decent sized room with volume to spare. The base is good but distorts at Max volume. The big plus is this thing is also pretty durable. Got this after returning the JBL Extreme. Would buy again.

This speakers kicks!! Easy to sync and packs a serious sound punch. Has a sound radius of 100ft and the battery charges for hours of use. One warning, this speaker gets warm so keep it out of direct sunshine. This is perfect for pool, block, birthday parties.

This is the biggest portable speaker i have ever seen, but it does get excellent bluetooth range, and it sounds great. it even got left in the rain for a few minutes and was unaffected. must have for going to the beach/park/etc

The NYNE X-Series Rock Portable Bluetooth Speaker is being advertised as a boom box for the 21st century which is only partially accurate. It is surely well suited for outdoor use because of its portability and volume - but I found it to lack sufficient “Boom” for my tastes - the bass on the unit lacked punch and fullness so music tended to sound poorly equalized (at least indoors). The unevenness of sound was less of a distraction outside but I would assume that people might want something suitable for more than just picnics and pool parties. Maybe limiting the bass was a concession to rechargeable battery life and weight considerations - the battery life is quoted as 10 hours (not sure how volume factors into that) - and while the unit is large, it is light: weighing-in at only 10 lbs. Setup and operation are completely intuitive. And the bluetooth connection is strong (note - I was unable to test their claim of a 100 ft. connection outside). However, when operating the NYNE with a bluetooth connection, I could not control the volume with my iPod Touch - the volume could only be controlled from the speaker and some music was quite loud even at the lowest volume on the speaker. The Rock does have quite a few good design features: a USB port for charging other devices from the speaker’s battery, Aux In/Out ports (the out port allows you to add additional speakers for playback), IPX-4 splash proofing (I had to look that up - means it is protected against splashing water from any angle but not protected from a stream of water or from immersion), NFC pairing, speaker phone, and a collection of plug prong types for use with US and European outlets. For a unit this size, I would have preferred to have something heavier that provided more convincing bass along with the extra battery weight to support that. As-is, you should probably think of this as suited almost exclusively for outdoor use - it really doesn’t have an inside voice and the poor ratio of bass to treble is a lot more apparent in smaller enclosed areas. Advertised as a 4.1 unit, it should have much better quality of sound. But volume is definitely not a problem!

I received this speaker to demo and review. To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect as I'd never heard of the company. Initial unpacking/First Impressions: I was a little surprised by the weight. It was actually lighter than I expected with a built in subwoofer, so I wasn't sure how much bass it would produce. All the surfaces, other than the speaker grills have a nice rubberized coating to help protect the speaker. Only time will tell how well it holds up, but I've owned products with similar coating that have done very well. On the back is a door/cover for the various connections and it looks like it's sealed pretty well. Powering Up: Pressing and holding the power button lights up the Logo and controls on the upper back edge and you're greeted with an ascending tone for power up. After pairing with your host device you also get a single tone to tell you the NFC connection was successful. Turning the speaker off gets you an descending tone as it shuts down. I don't tend to read instructions before trying out new electronics and the controls on the speaker all worked with my iPhone as expected. You have a blue phone button along with play/pause, skip forward, skip backward, volume down and volume up buttons. I was able to answer incoming calls with the phone button and control my music directly from the speaker. I also discovered pressing and holding the phone buttons initiates the pairing function. Sound quality: I was impressed with the sound at the default volume setting and as I increased the volume. The vocals and brass stayed crisp and weren't overpowered by the bass. I tried some classic rock, including Springsteen for the sax, Eminem and Flo Rida. For a portable speaker I was impressed. The Rock may not provide thumping club style bass, but there's plenty of bass to balance out the sound and it's by no means "tinny". Audio on a couple of phone calls was also acceptable. Under the cover you've got a power bar showing how much charge is left, a USB port allowing you to charge your phone or other devices directly from the speaker, 3.5mm aux in and aux out and the charging port. Seeing the Aux in I thought about possibly connecting a microphone to use the speaker as a small portable PA, then that led to checking for a microphone app for my phone to give me a wireless mic. Quick search of the app store and I download one of the free apps to try. The voice came through very clean with little his, but there was some echo/reverb. I was indoors and within 10 feet of the speaker so I've got some more testing to do but think this will also work out. Overall I'm impressed.

this speaker is great! It is big, think the size of a small duffel bag. But the sound is great and it is definitely light enough to carry with 1 hand!
