Overall, Oblivion doesn't do anything terribly original. If you've seen a steady stream of science fiction movies from the past 50 years, you aren't likely to be shocked by any of the films twists and turns, but that's ok. Oblivion comes off like a film that appreciates and respects those stories that came before. One of the elements that I think really worked well for this film were the visuals and music. From the same director that gave us the Tron Legacy film (which also worked well for its visual aesthetic and sound), Oblivion is a very nice piece of eye and ear candy. I would highly recommend this movie to anybody that grew up watching science fiction films of the 60's and 70's.

I was pretty cynical about this movie going in because Tom Cruise was in it, but I turned out really liking it to the point where I wanted to own it. I don't think it was just a case of having low expectations transcended because I watched again and enjoyed it again. One of my favorite parts to this movie is the musical score, love it, it ties everything together. Also, I really like the look, feel, tone, production value of the movie. Like I said I was I a bit nervous about Cruise in the leading role, but he didn't get in the way of the movie. It borrows things from other science fiction movies, but it didn't bother me because I think they were used in the right way. It's a solid and interesting story. Not my favorite or the best movie of all time, but definitely one I'll enjoy repeat viewings of.

I love this movie. The aesthetic is great and the story works well. It isn't Oscar material and isn't without plenty of holes in the story but every time I watch it I enjoy it. The 4K disc has great sound and great visual quality. You can tell that Joseph Kosinski did this as he did Tron Legacy and there is a quality that harkens back to that movie. Music is great too. I highly recommend this.

This was a fine movie, not bad but not great either. Worth catching on a streaming platform, but not sure if anyone would have any interest in rewatching this movie.

Oblivion is a good film. The visuals are very impressive and the performance of Andrea Riseborough is a pleasure. Check her out in other films, she always does more with what she is given. My criticism arises when Oblivion seems to have homages to other great science fiction films within its runtime. If you know films like The Matrix and Moon, you'll recognize the reflections. The problem is that Oblivion doesn't rise or exceed the levels of any of the films it pulls from. That becomes more glaring during the times its borrowing. Still though, its entertaining and has some great visuals.

I like a lot of Tom Cruise movies and when I watched this I was surprised with the ending it was not what I expected. I know he usually doesn't do much Sy Fy so when I saw this I thought I would give it a try and I really liked it. For a guy who is over fifty he does a great job with some of the stunts that they give him. Yes I do know that there are stunt doubles. But I also know a lot of stars do most of their stunts. I also get very tired of hearing about how short he is. Well news flash you don't have to be six feet tall to be a good actor and he proves that in this movie,

Tom Cruise is posted in a remote area with a British girl who wears high heels and false eyelashes in their remote site and there are just the of them, kinda strange. Cruise plays his usual daredevil part, and pushes the motorbike and 'hovercraft' to the limits in speed and daring. That was enjoyable. Morgan Freeman is solid and a good character. Somehow Cruise meets up with someone from his past, and they form a future together. It is Science Fiction alright, and it's a good watch.

I've seen Oblivion about 8 times. I like Tom Cruise, and he's convincing as the cloned astronaut who retains bits and pieces of memory of what had been his life before Earth was turned into a blasted version of what it had been before the alien presence destroyed the Moon and went to work mining the Earth's water. There's a strong plot, fine acting, reasonable action, some cool technology, romantic conflict, revelations, an attempt to save humanity, or what's left of it, and emotional realism. It's a good 2 hours spent. Enjoy the movie.

The underlying story is interesting and I suspect the book was probably pretty good, but the movie spends 80% of its time focused on Tom Cruises's character's patrol flights. Some cool effects, but most of the movie is just Tom and his outpost partner patrolling the planet. Morgan Freeman is maybe on screen for 15 minutes. So some good eye candy with the effects but no character development and minimal plot. I must also add that this movie (Blu Ray) did NOT play on my PS3 I bought two copies of this film and neither of them would work. The DVD and the digital HD copy was just fine.

The movie was okay overall. I wasn't disappointed, got pretty much what I expected. Good actors and a decent plot helped this movie a lot. The CGI was amazing, cinematography was brilliant, stunning even. Also the soundtrack is excellent and very well used throughout, enhancing the action and adding depth to some - at times - distinctly average acting performances. They don't make many science fiction films these days. This was a pleasant surprise all throughout the film. It definitely turned out to be something I wasn't expecting. GO SEE THIS, pure entertainment.

The film itself has its own artistic style that doesn't offer very vivid or vibrant color but the 4K disc is an improvement over standard Blu. The contrast levels are much better and although it's not a razor sharp image does provide enhanced definition. The true benefit of this disc is the Atmos audio. The sounds of the drones for instance just blows you away. Nice detail the various sound stages throughout the movie. If you don't already own it get the 4K disc when BB has them on sale.

I purchased this 4K UHD blu-ray disc mainly for the Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The movie is a pretty cool sci-fi flick with some great visuals, although the 4K HDR version is less sharper than the 1080p blu-ray disc. They both look excellent on there own but you can clearly tell when watching the 1080p version that it is sharper. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is pure demo quality and which is why I prefer the 4K version. The 180p blu-ray disc only includes DTS-MA for the soundtrack.

Oblivion is yet another very good Tom Cruise film. The story line holds your interest throughout and there are a number of plot twists. The film was shot in a fairly bland color palette but the 4K presentation reveals loads of details that weren't that obvious on the Blu-ray version. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is excellent with great presence and use of the top and rear surround speakers. All in all, Oblivion is a good combination of story, acting and technical achievement.
