When I first played the first Octopath Traveler, there's was this sense of intrigue. It looked like games of the 16-bit era... but upscaled. I remember seeing the game in motion for the first time, and I was blown away by the beautiful graphics. The second time around, that sense of graphical beauty has somewhat diminished. Maybe my eyes got used to it, but with the sequel, I'm just playing it for the story, and I find myself just wanting to complete it for the sake of completing it. You once again have 8 characters, and each of them has multiple chapters to complete. There's still the sense of adventure as you go from town to town. The game holds your hand by showing you what level it recommends you be in order to survive that part of the map. I kinda wish you could turn that off in the beginning. For me it's fun learning what parts of the map are too advance for my current levels. The stories are well written, and the characters are likeable. This time you have the opportunity to see some of the characters share some stories, so this is a major upgrade from the original. The music is still whimsical, and fitting for most of the sequences in the game. The cycle though for each character is similar. You go from chapter to chapter with the level requirement increase, and face a boss at the end. I'm sorry to say that the sequel actually feels like something I would have played during the Super Nintendo era. I don't see any major advances that makes me think I would like a third one, unless some major changes are made. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just, not anything amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed Octopath Traveler, so I was ecstatic to hear Square Enix was making Octopath Traveler II. The game is fun, with more mechanics and better character interactions. (Some of the travel banter is absolutely hilarious.) As for plot, most of the characters’ storylines are compelling, and I also like the easter eggs with side characters sprinkled in. If you come across this review, I will warn you that your first character will still be locked to your party until you beat their storyline. Also. some fights definitely felt too easy this time around, but then other fights were kind of tough. Take that with a grain of salt. Either way, if you enjoyed the first installment, I think you’ll enjoy this one too.

Fun, multipath game with retro-style pixel graphics placed into custom 3d pixelated-style environments. Fans of old school, turn-based JRPGs will definitely appreciate and enjoy the graphics, style, and gameplay. There are some difficult super-bosses that require a bit of planning and some grinding, but not really that bad unless you're new to the genre and aren't sure what to try, but even then you can look at some hint guides online if you run into problems. If you enjoy such style JRPG's, this will be right up your alley. Nice amount of play time for cost of the game.

Game was fun to play and had charming graphics. I really enjoyed playing through Partitio's chapter, but Hikari's story was a very close second. The first game was disappointing in regards to the story of the characters and interaction, but this game is a huge upgrade. Gameplay is your standard turn-based RPG with some fun twists added in, but still nothing amazing.

another grand entry from Square-Ennix, and it is not Final Fantasy. This is a great alternative to JRPG fans who harken back to the SNES days of role playing games. The story, music, and characters are great and you will lose days to this game, replaying and experoencing everyone's story.

Octopath Traveler II Improves on the first game in every way! Better cross-path dialogue between cool and interesting characters that each have there own interesting story, a fun and intuitive day/night cycle that the player can switch between at will, a fun turn-based battle system with a great break mechanic, and of course, the beautiful HD-2D pixel work that first game was known for. Definitely a must-buy!

Awesome follow up to one of the best modern RPGs. Turn based combat is phenomenal and the characters are all very well done. The changes between the first and this one are all very positive. Free Steel book is beautiful as well

The first Octopath was good, but this one was amazing. The stories and characters felt richer, if only because of how beautifully they come together this time. Each character is very distinct, and the player is given a lot of freedom in how to experience their stories, in what order. There's a unique narrative there for each player, should they choose to let their imagination run with it. The battle system is still turn-based perfection. Also, each character having multiple path actions makes it easier to use them than before. Playing the first one is not required outside of a few easter eggs, so easy to recommend this one first.

A wonderful sequel to the original title. It continues the story from the original, so it’s definitely best to play Octopath Traveler before playing this title. It’s also a great homage to the JRPGs from the 1980’s and 1990’s. Square definitely went back to its roots and gave us a great couple of games.

If you’re not familiar with RPGs this is a great introduction to the genre, has increíble battle system and graphics. The stories work well but they could have intertwined more to create a great narrative, other than that this is one the best RPGs out there!

Even better than the 1st, and that was my favorite game of 2018. ABSOLUTELY improves on every single aspect of the original. This should be up for Game of the Year, but will face strong AAA competition. If it doesn't win best soundtrack, then the awards are rigged.

The basics of the battle system are the same as the first because why mess with perfection? The new systems feel truly additive, the music and characters are great. And some of the structure is improved over the first game.

SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE! I fell off the first one after about 20 hours. This took me 90 and I JUST hit all the end game stuff which is not just extra but story related. Characters are fun, the OST is amazing, and the battle system is top notch. On my list for game of the year 2023.

This is probably the best game on Nintendo switch in terms of character story. Some of the stories will be better than others no doubt. If you liked part one, part two is more of the same with improvements. I highly recommend this game.
