Already 10 hours into this game in just 2 days. The battle system is very deep and rewarding without being overly difficult to get the hang of. The art style is gorgeous. I find myself just admiring the lighting system and diarama effect. Only downside is you are stuck with the first character you choose at the beginning of the game so choose wisely! You can’t take them out of your party so the leveling gets a bit skewed as you swap other characters in and out around your protagonist. That said, this game is fantastic so far and can’t wait to play more of it. Would definitely recommend to any JRPG fans.

The battle system and mechanics in this game are incredible! The music is also top notch. The graphical style is beautiful, but not for everyone. I love retro RPGs, so it was right up my alley. The single complaint I have about this game is the story is not great. The characters don't mesh or interact as a party, and each character's story is mostly filled with the cliche elements found in most RPGs. I still got 60 hours of enjoyment out of it and will revisit it in the future, but the story is just disappointing. I hope they release a sequel with a similar battle system and refined story.

This game has everything. Gorgeous visuals, incredible soundtrack, unique stories, fantastic battle system and is even accessible for those experiencing the genre for the first time. Nintendo systems have had some great exclusive RPGs lately from the Xenoblade series to Bravely, and this is among the greats. Do yourself a favor and pick this up ASAP!

I have really enjoyed my time with Octopath Traveler thus far. The graphics are so unique and enjoyable, and the music is INCREDIBLE. I have probably spent just as much time listening to the soundtrack as I have playing the game. The stories are fairly typical of JRPGs, but Octopath suffers from a very repetitive gameplay loop. Hear a story, talk to some villagers, complete a simple task, fight a boss, repeat. This would be a much bigger issue if the battle system weren't so fun. Overall, highly recommended, especially if you're a fan of the JRPG genre.

This type of game is right up my alley. Old-school JRPG gameplay reminiscent of SNES era Final Fantasy. The combat system is a whole lot of fun as you make your way through 8 potential character storylines. The artwork and musical soundtrack are both top notch. I hope the Switch continues to receive more games like this in the near future.

Great JPRG that surpassed expectations. The battle system is fresh and rewarding and encourages thoughtful play even when severely outleveling enemies. There is minimal grinding and the story is passable, if cliched at times. This is redeemed by the beautiful artwork and soundtrack, which makes playing through enjoyable regardless.

I bought this game cause I have always been a fan of JRPGs and turn based. The story in this game is definitely up there. It easily compares to some of its Final Fantasy cousins. Gameplay wise, its your traditional turn based RPG but with some upgrades. The music in this game is also great.

This game is the coolest new age RPG to hit the market. It has turn based combat with an excellent art style that allows you to level while taking the grinding feeling away from the 100 hours of gameplay. All 8 characters have their own storyline and give so much variety to the way you can play this beautiful game. 5/5

Octopath Traveller looks beautiful, sounds, amazing, and has a great battle system, with a unique approach to storytelling. It harkens back to SNES-era JRPG classics, while offering some new ideas, such as significant depth to battles. You have 8 characters all with unique stories. While I am enjoying these stories, I am disappointed that there is no interconnected story, combining all 8 characters' stories. After coming to grips with that, I was able to enjoy the game much more. If you like JRPGs, don't skip this one.

It's very much a throwback to the old school turn based RPGs with some interesting quirks to the battle system. Namely a Bravely Default-esque system where you can charge up attacks if you save up points (BP) to make them more powerful. A job system comes into play as well where your characters can essentially subclass. Fights will often take a while, especially for bosses but once you grow and learn how to use skills effectively you can essentially break the game- which you will probably need to for the optional epilogue stuff. Overall the game's nice, my only critique is that there should have been more character interaction. Each character (there are 8) has a self contained narrative in which no other party member has anything to say while it unfolds (except for occasional skits.) There's also no apparent overarching story until you get to the very end and complete the other 8. But yeah, if you like classic turn based combat and have the patience for that sort of game then by all means give this game a try.

This game is an homage to the classic JRPGs that most people grew up playing. It makes some changes with its battle and party systems, but is otherwise true to the classics. Which also includes grinding that classic JRPGs are know for but if you stick with it you'll find something to enjoy.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this game. Phenomenal soundtrack, unbelievably addicting combat system. The 8 stories (I'm up to each character's chapter 2/4) are passable, but the gameplay will be what takes you through the game. No regrets purchasing this at full price.

8 characters, all of which are unlocked from the start of the game. Choose your path! Grindy, but not too grindy. Great, simple story lines for each. Good voice acting, and exceptional soundtrack! Battle system seems akin to Bravely Default, which is a good thing. 50+ hours in already!

Not the biggest RPG fan. But this game is beautiful, a has great battle system, excellent voice work, and is 8 games in one! It’s everything I hoped for when I bought FF 15. But they changed that series so much that it’s nearly unrecognizable. Octopath, however, feels like home.

Hearkens back to the old school turn based JRPGs. There's a job system in place- each of the eight characters has their own, but you can subclass once you unlock the other jobs by exploration. Battle is turn based with a break system. If you've played Bravely Default it's sort of similar to that. Game focuses mainly on 8 separate stories of the characters and I'm having a good time so far. Can have some grindy moments, but that's not news for a seasoned RPG player.

new 2d style graphics and music in this game are awesome. Battle system(weakness system) is cool but you get bored after repetitive battles. Stealing high class weapons and armor from NPC is a cool setting. Recommend to all Japan RPG lovers.

Beautiful art style that must be seen in motion to get the full affect. Good battle system to keep you engaged. 8 separate stories and 4 playable characters in your party once you find them. All these things combined bring a welcomed game in a genre long forgotten.

Well SQEX did it again. The only negative I have is that the game is pretty darn linear and the paths between cities is short, simple and predictable. Everything else about this game - story, MUSIC (cant say enough about the music) and battle system? Magnificent!

The boost and break battle mechanics make you slow down and think for each encounter . For each turn! The art style was a great throw back as well. I really enjoyed them. The issues were that the characters didn't really interact with each-other much and just felt odd that they are fighting together. You have 8 heroes on 8 different quests, but they all follow the same pattern. I finished 5 or 6 and it took me about 45 hours.
