Great headset overall and shipping was fast. A nice upgrade from the original rift. Gave it 4 stars because the usb keeps going out once in a while and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. The onboard speakers are junk so I just use my own headset instead. Screen door effect is nearly gone and resolution is much better than the previous.

Bought the Oculus Rift S, and its a great headset.
Hot:
1) NO MORE SENSORS. Even though there are no more sensors to install, the tracking is still great. I have no problem with any of my games.
2) Little to none SDE
Lukewarm:
1) Sound performance is not as good as the original Rift.
2) Screen resolution is better, but has a lower refresh rate. The slower refresh rate is slower, but barely noticeable.
Cold:
1) NO IPD adjustment. I should have done my research around this. Before buying this product, I would do research on the IPD issues that the oculus has. Then go and measure your IPD. My IPD is higher than the ipd range provided by Oculus, which makes this headset a little unusable,
All in all, if you are new and just getting into VR, this is the best headset right now, just becauase of its simplicity and its ecosystem. If you have a current rift, I would honestly say to stick with it, unless the one resolution is important to you, or the need to not setup external sensors. Again, I extremly recommend that you check your IPD and make sure you are compatible with the headset. I am not, and this why this headset isn't forme, and it shall be returned.

This is the first VR device I ever used. I had no idea what to expect going in. Setup was easy. I was actually amazed when I first tried it. Far cooler than I had thought. I've been playing Skyrim VR a lot. The visor works well even with my glasses. Have extra AA batteries on hand for the controllers. I've played quite a bit on the Rift and have had to changed the batteries twice now. It's easy to just plug the Rift into a USB and Display port after the initial setup, fire up the Oculus app and jump right in whenever you want to play.

Great VR system for the PC gaming enthusiast

VR systems are maturing, and the new technology makes it easier than ever to set up and get started. With the Oculus Rift S, provided your computer has the right specs, setup is as easy as plugging one cord with a double end into two slots on your video card (or one on your video card and one USB).
I'm fortunate to have a RTX 2080 on my rig, so it has a dedicated extra spec USB C plug called the VirtualLink VR connector that is purpose built for VR systems to deliver the power and data bandwidth necessary to operate the HMD, so all I needed was a C to A adapter and to make sure that a DisplayLink port was open, and I was good to go.
The Rift S is compatible with the Steam store and Viveport, in addition to Oculus's own store, which means I already had amassed a library of a few games that had VR added to them.
I've been a fan of VR since the early 90s, when Lawnmower Man was playing on repeat on HBO. There was an arcade with 2 VR systems, one with a multiplayer deathmatch style game, and one with a car racing game, and I spent as much time as I could on them. When the first in-home VR systems came out (not including VirtualBoy) I wanted one so bad, but after trying it out the tech wasn't quite there, with all sorts of setups necessitating a dedicated room almost. The inside-out method of tracking that the new Oculus headsets employ allow for a simple setup (no setup in the case of the Quest) at the expense of tracking accuracy, such as very close to the face or behind the back, but compensating for those shortcomings is as easy as holding your arm a little bit further out.
As a piece of hardware, the Rift S is the sweet spot of feature, convenience, and cost. As far as the VR experience goes, it entirely depends on the developer, but the Rift S makes it easy to jump in and out of any of the experiences that are available. Because that's what we call them in VR world, experiences, not games, because sitting in a virtual room and tripping out that the thing you picked up is in your hand because you picked it up with your hand and lifted your arm and not by just pressing a button (even though yeah, you still pressed a button) really is something to be experienced without requiring the framework and systems to call it an actual game, it's just the loading screen you are experiencing. And it's awesome!

Hi,
So been using this for about two weeks , First week it still had a few bugs where it go black but with an update it was fixed, Read a lot reviews etc and picked the one for pc only thing I would say, I do not like is the cord but other then that works great and works now with Steam VR with the new update from steam .
For the price I think it is worth checking out.
I still think if you have a PC that is the way to go for you can do so much more then say with Quest .
I am not good at reviews but I am happy with the purchase ...

Ok so, I have an old Quest and it has been sitting for months. Not its fault, mine. Now, I have the Rift S and man. I am really blown away. For the money (and the price is good I thin) it does deliver. Took only a little effort to install and setup on my new gaming PC. Get one, I think you will love it. Cheers!

I had the Rift CV1 for 2 - 3 years, and this is definitely a worthy upgrade. There is a noticeable difference in resolution and lack of god rays, and it makes the experience that much better. Plus the lack of sensors makes this a cleaner setup and is more liberating if you didn't have a 3 sensor setup in the past.

Really fun VR gaming headset at an affordable price compared to other VR headsets. I purchased it in 2020 and it still works great.
I have used it with all sorts of games. Walking or running within a game can be dizzying; some games have to option to teleport walk instead of joystick movement, that helps lessen the nausea if your sensitive to using the VR.

I've had my Rift S for a few weeks now and I've been very happy with the setup overall. I had been putting off the move to VR for a while but I am very happy with my purchase after experiencing it. It's a very fun way to enjoy games.
Setup was quick and easy. You install the oculus software and it basically walks you through getting everything ready step by step. I've had a few instances early into ownership where it would not detect my headset and I would have to go into settings and tell it[the headset] to restart. Other than that, it's worked wonderfully with everything I've tried out.
The only negative I could think to give is the controllers using AA batteries instead of a rechargeable option. This is a minor knock however, as the battery life is pretty good. I'd just advise getting rechargeable batteries unless you want to keep a surplus around for those times you forget and one of them goes dead.
the line up of games, along with the ease of use, makes me very happy with my purchase and I would definitely recommend the Rift S for someone wanting to get into VR for their PC without breaking the bank on a more high end option like the Valve Index.

The oculus rift S is an “older” headset at this point. Basically what this means is Oculus (read: Facebook) is focusing more on the Quest 2. They use different operating systems and therefor can be Quest exclusive games.
Now, the flip side of that is you can connect the Rift S to your PC and use any VR games from Steam that support the Rift S.
I am only giving this system a 4 instead of 5 due to the fact that it seems like this won’t be as supported going forward. Otherwise it’s a great system. We have two adults and one 12 year old child that use it and it’s very easy to swap settings between the three of us. You’ll need to know your IPD (inter-pupillary distance) to get things to focus properly as this doesn’t have a physical way to do that. You have to go into settings to adjust it.
Anyways there are tons of videos out there about whether you should get this or a Quest 2 in 2021.
Overall it’s great and I’m glad I was able to get it on sale.

Set up was easy. Just took a long time to download and install the updates. Must be set up on a desktop. You are able to connect to your Xbox via the xbox app that you install in the oculus app that you download on your PC. Takes a LOT of getting used too. Was motion sick for 1 full day after my first time using the headset. Feels ready sturdy and looks absolutely amazing. Little to no lag controllers are super responsive.

I really enjoy the this HMD. This is my first one and I’ve only tried out the PSvr before this. I’ve gotta say, this is a huge step up from the psvr but I wasn’t that surprised about that. The only complaint I have is the cord does get in the way and can break immersion but there’s workarounds for that.

We have an original HTC Vive and this headset is so much easier to setup and use. Having one wire to the headset and now tracking satellites is a difference maker. The controllers are also very slick and easy to use. Overall it has been a lot of fun for the family and our friends who come over for VR nights. Got it on sale for $350 at Black Friday time.

Wow! All I say is, WOW!!! Who said VR is dead. Before I get into how much fun VR is, we must first talk about the physical aspects of VR. First and foremost, expect to have sore feet as you stand for an extended period of time. Reminds me of walking the floors in the hospital I work. Second, you will get a physical workout. I play a game called Shadow Legend VR. Every hit on the undead, every ladder you climb, every slash you block is all done by YOU. This is a long ways from using a gamepad controller. I find the headset also makes you hot after awhile. Third, make sure you have plenty of room to experience gaming, because you will get turned around. In a way, having a cord helps to keep you aware of your surroundings without stepping outside the Guardian.
Now, the fun factor. This is the way VR is meant to be. I mean, until they have gloves instead of controllers a la Ready Player One. Now, I have only played a copy of games, the second being Dreadhalls which is a survivor horror game. I haven't been able to make it far in that one, cause it is a bit scary. Don't Judge Me!
Regardless of what you do, you will find the time flying by and still want more. Whether it is VR NBA or WWE in the app Next VR, or diving with Great White sharks in Discovery VR. Don't get me started on IT in Samsung VR....You'll float too Billy

This oculus rift S is a fine piece of hardware, the built in sensors are amazing no need for mounted sensors on the wall this thing takes care of business. The resolution change is better but not that much better.
OKAY now onto the cons.
1. The oculus rift s does not have headphones it has built in speakers wrapped around your head they are poorly designed and it would have been much better to just add the original rift headphones to it.
2. The controllers suck they dont feel as natural as the rift's controllers and the battery packs will drive you up the wall if you squeeze to hard the magnetic pack wants to fly off.
OVERALL
The Rift S is amazing in every other way I have no regrets buying it, the reason for 4 stars is because of them two reasons above they really break the solitude the headset should beable to achieve.

I was skeptical at first, but this is definitely my favorite inside out tracking vr headset. Of course controller tracking can struggle in some games that require intense precision but the ease of use of the system makes that worth it and it only improves every day as oculus releases more patches.

Ok so the inside out tracking may have slight tracking limitations when it comes to things like archery or climbing but this headset is not only more efficient and will run better on your system, but there is almost zero screen door effect with the tighter pixel density on the panel they are using. This HMD makes your games shine!! Great great purchase! Also so much easier to setup and no need to use 5 usb ports if you used to use 3 external sensors.

It is a Good Headset, previous Version of the oculus was better in my opinion. I've also had HTC Vive, and comparing for the price this is a better option.
I would hold 1 year to learn more about new developments in the tech. Like Steams new VR headset looks better its just too expensive at this point.

Best purchase I’ve made

Honestly the best purchase I’ve made. This was my transition into PC gaming as I’ve always just played on Xbox and PlayStation. But VR caught my interest and tried PSVR but there was so much missed potential with that. Graphics weren’t that great, as well as you basically were forced to buy the complete bundle or forced to buy move controllers as they didn’t come with it and some games required them. With the Oculus Rift S, everything it comes with is everything you need. Barely any games will ask for anything more and those are just like driving games if you wanna go all out and get a steering wheel and clutch and pedals. But I haven’t had to buy anything else for it so what you pay for is all you need. Not only that but the graphics go way beyond PSVR as your not limited to the graphics the playstation can run. Last but not least, the game library. PlayStation VR is highly limited on games and content. Oculus has its own store but you can also play a near endless selection from Steam VR. Your not limited to what only Sony can attain the rights to so you can get huge titles, or indie games people created and are really fun. As well as the custom maps and game modes you can add on to a lot of the games so you never get bored as there’s always different ways to change up the game. This is the best Vr headset that can get you started, skip PSvR and don’t automatically jump ahead to the other brands of $1000 vr headsets as it may not be for everyone. I for sure enjoyed this purchase and am always having fun. Just make sure your PC has the specs to run it as well as the games before you buy them.

This is probably the best VR headset on the market for the average consumer. It does not have the highest specs, or the best hardware, but the price is very reasonable at $399. It is easily the best value for your money, and the best entry into vr if you have a strong computer. If you do not have a strong computer, you should look at the Oculus Quest.
What I can say is that the picture looks very good. It looks leaps and bounds better than the older generation headsets like Rift and Vive. The screen is very sharp and very clear, but you have to make sure you don't have an ipd over 67 mm or under 60 mm. The screen is not adjustable, so it is important that your head fits into the specs of the headset if you are going to buy it. To know your ipd, just measure the distance of one pupil to the other and convert into mm. My ipd is about 67 or 68 and it works well for me, but others report issues at or above that measurement.
The headset itself if comfortable. The sound is horrible, so it needs headphones. I chose the mantis psvr headphones because they fit onto the strap and stay in place permanently. The controllers are very nice. They fit in the hand well and work very well with all the games.
The tracking is actually very good on this headset. It's not going to be perfect like the external tracking headsets, but it honestly works very well. Very few tracking errors.
One thing to keep in mind is the headset has cameras on it, and there is the possibility they could be defective. I had to return mine for an exchange. It should work right out of the box. My 2nd unit worked right out of the box with no problems. The first unit would not function properly. Buying from bestbuy is a good idea because of this. They will ensure you get a working Oculus Rift S.
