Short version: as a fan of good side-scrolling combat (think Dust or Dragon's Crown, if you've played those) and of deep story, I cannot recommend this game enough!! I never did play this game the first time it came out (PS2), but I had been exposed to Vanillaware's exceedingly high level of quality thanks to Dragon's Crown (PS3). The gameplay is excellent, as I hoped. But I was unexpectedly surprised by how interesting and beautiful the story is. As soon as I saw the blue bird (first storybook, early on) and heard its dialog with Gwendolyn, I was floored by how deep this tale was promising to be. Concepts like the pain of feeling unloved just aren't explored very often in this medium I have now completed 3 of 5 books on the hard difficulty. I do recommend Hard if you're more of a hardcore gamer, but it would be a shame to miss out on the story of you aren't quite like that. Maybe try Hard and if you don't like it, switch to Normal. Each book tells the story of different people who you may or may not have encountered during your previous books. Each book includes its own challenges, gameplay mechanics, inventory, and very interesting settings. I am exceedingly glad I bought this game and will continue playing it regularly into the future. I have already logged over 40 hours and still have plenty of gameplay and story left to go :)

This game is amazing, a surprisingly good and well written story with unique and interesting characters, The game play is fantastic with 5 playable character each with their own unique play style . The only fault the game has is that you will find your self going through the same levels and sometimes the same bosses just with a different character but that can be easily overlooked with the sheer level a fun the game brings.

A really good Action RPG with a very interesting story. The remake fixes all of the gameplay issues the original game had. The only con is that the game can be very repetitive and it is a very long game.

Beautiful art and graphics, great soundtrack, and fun hack and slash game play. It reminds me of classics like Legend of Mana in a lot of ways

An excellent Remaster of a Beautiful game! an amazing title once again brought to you by the amazing folks at Atlus. You have the option of the original PS2 style menus and structure or the newer streamlined Dragon's Crown gameplay. This is an excellent side scrolling action/JRPG with infused Nordic mythology. Some might find the minimum grinding a bit, repetitive but, over all a great title. First editions of this game also come with an amazing art book.

You can look at screenshots and see that it's beautiful. So I'll point out that it features the lush orchestrations of Hitoshi Sakimoto, the brilliant game soundtrack composer whose credits include Valkyria Chronicles and Final Fantasy XII.

I loved this game and now if you didn't a chance to play it before. You get to grab it this time, it came with the art book in my pre order and it was awesome. So happy the art and game play is amazing. Plus the extras .

When I first played this on PS2, I had a ton of fun with it. Now with the expanded game and boss rush mode plus the fix for the frame rate, it just got better
