Took some great pictures the first day. Second day the screen was filled with water. Ensured everything was closed before use. Very disappointing considering I could not use it the rest of the trip and had to return it.

Excellent Camera

I was going to purchase a less expensive underwater point and shoot and I'm glad that I did not. This camera is amazing in so many ways. The underwater pictures are great at lower light levels, the macro function takes great pictures, and the ability to shoot in RAW is a real game changer. Although I haven't bought any accessories yet, I think the ability to remove the lens surround and add accessories is going to add another level of functionality to this camera. Anybody looking to take great pictures both in and out of the water needs to seriously consider this camera. I per-ordered and Best Buy delivered as promised.

This is not I expect camera because the lens is very big. It can't close it. I have to pay attention all the time not to get dirty or finger printer.

Beware of HMDI Charging Port Door Failure
Posted .

I bought this camera and took it on vacation with me to Puerto Rico only to be able to use it twice prior to the charging port door malfunctioning. I contacted Olympus to try to see if they'd help but a week and a half later still hadn't heard from them (email sent to me stated 24-48 hours response). I took the camera back to Best Buy using my extended warranty and traded it in for the Nikon Coolpix AW130 which only has one door with a much better locking mechanism than Olympus's two door locking switch which failed. Overall I can say I will never recommend this camera or company name ever again after having this camera and only being able to use it twice on my vacation. Beware that this camera has issues with the locking mechanisms on the HMDI charging port door and their customer service is very poor if not non existent. Prior to buying the camera check the HMDI port door where your hand goes on the side because if you even have the remote idea that you are going to use this in the water you might want to cover the locks with something so they don't open by themselves or buy a different camera. Overall I wanted to write a great review on this after my vacation but I'm not able to because I didn't even hardly get to use this camera prior to it malfunctioning. Olympus needs to redesign the locking mechanisms on both doors otherwise this is going to be a very well known issue for anyone who uses this in the water. Best of luck to those who've bought this camera and please beware of the locking mechanisms on the HMDI charging port door and the battery memory card port door. Nice picture quality on the 100 pictures I took but overall a dud and not worth the amount of money spent. I'd recommend looking at the Nikon Coolpix AW130 which actually has more to offer overall in the camera and a much better locking mechanism design. Best of luck to everyone!

bought one for a trip to Mexico... glad I bought it well before the trip to get used to it. first one had something under the lens, not positive if it was on the sensor or not. so that ruined every photo.... got it swapped for one that scratched really easily. it was extremely sad and disappointing to see a company who has been doing their tough cameras for this long have a product this faulty. returned the second, bought the canon that I originally wanted (went olympus because they have done the waterproof/tough cameras for a long time) and haven't had an issue since. I will give 2 stars because they took great clean images and were easy to use. beyond that, not much redeeming about them to try a third.

A bit pricey, but was more than satisfied with the image quality. Took this on a cruise and went snorkeling with no issues.

One of the best from tough series

The best part of this camera from the Olympus tough series is the lens is in the middle of the camera not in the corner where your finger can get in the way. It does take time to learn how to use the settings but that is normal with all the tough cameras. The only negative thing I have to say about it is it does not have a cover for the lens so you have to be careful it does not get scratched wherever you are storing or caring it. They should have had a cover that closes like the other series or come with a cover. The best feature is the underwater. It works better than ever closing it to lock is easier.

I accidentally dropped this "rugged" camera from a seated position...might have fallen 2 feet and the LCD screen shattered. I even purchased and had a screen protector installed on the camera. Very disappointed

Flood alert!

Bought the previous model TG-3 Oct 2014. Used underwater in Hawaii December 2014. Worked fine. Took it to Hawaii Dec 2015, promptly leaked in 20 ft of water. Very fine print at the very end of the instructs says seals need to be replaced yearly, which requires sending back to Olympus! We now have a unusable camera because salt had accumulated on the lens. Do not buy if you want to dive/snorkel with it. The instruction manual for the TG-4 has the same warning at the very end of the manual.

Brought this camera for an indoor water park vacation. Stupid me for buying this piece of junk. I took one picture in water and the screen and picture went blank. Guess the seal was ineffective. Have to send it back to Olympus. Will take 4-6 weeks to fix - horrible customer service - Tried to put the blame on me. Did I closed the battery door.

Not a single sharp picture!

After having had the TG2 for a number of years, I was excited by the option to have raw data from the Olympus. I used the TG4 for two weeks in Newfoundland, alas, not a single picture came out sharp. I checked a friends TG4 and the same issue. Very frustrating, needless to say I returned the camera....

It Died When I Cleaned It

The day I finally used it underwater this camera died. I had it just over a year and it was no longer under warranty. I can't say for sure whether using it underwater or cleaning it is was did it in. I cleaned it following the directions but it never worked again.
Special effects features created some fun and interesting photos, but other than that I wouldn't recommend this camera for use in or out of the water.
It's extremely overpriced and the extra lenses were poor quality and mostly unusable.
