We bought this for a snorkeling trip. Used it for 14 days straight in saltwater for 2+ hours a day. Worked well and takes great pics underwater as long as you use the underwater settings (duh). RAW capabilities gives you flexibility to further improve your pics.
I had it as deep as 20' without issues. It did get foggy on the lense on a few days but that has not impacted performance. After being out of the water overnight it was fine the next day.

The Olympus TG-4 is by far the best underwater camera I have ever used. I tried four other underwater cameras before I found this one. As a marine biologist, having a high quality underwater camera is extremely important and this camera sets the bar high. I am especially impressed with the low light and close up capabilities of the camera, see photos below for examples of the images I've captured with this camera. At this point I have purchased two of the Olympus TG-4 cameras and one of the Olympus TG-5 cameras because I could not find the TG-4 anywhere else. In the 2+ years I have used these cameras, only one has had any issues and that was will the side door opening. My suggestion is to still use the underwater housing with it.

I bought this camera for our trip to the Galapagos Islands and it did not disappoint me. I only wish I had bought it earlier because I would have done more with it during the trip. The under water photos came out very clear when the water was clear and the videos were very clear also. Many of the other guests with us asked about the camera after seeing my photos and videos.

Use it for kayaking so I don't take chances with my cell phone. Easy to use auto mode. Some features to play with if you want to get your feet wet with settings. Easy to use app. Incredible macro mode. I got the silicone boot and screen protector for the display. Would've liked a lens cover.

Just came back from a Caribbean cruise.
Took about 340 pics all turned out great.
Auto Mode was good, Scene Mode very good.
About 40 Pics under water on snorkel excursion, @ max 15ft depth.
Much better than cell phone pics.
It bounced around on my wrist during ATV excursion, got very dusty, just rinsed it off under faucet.
No issues so far!!!

This little point and shoot is fantastic for crazy up close encounters with mother earth's tiny creatures, and also has fantastic underwater quality. All of this right out of the box!
The two light ring options (each sold separately), really help up your macro game!

I'm a nature photographer and I've had this camera for a few weeks now. I bought this camera for a trip where I would be taking photos on a kayak and during snorkeling.
I recommend this product for photographers who are serious about getting quality photos where water is an issue, and care about technical details like its RAW capture ability and microscope mode. I don't recommend this product for people who are casual shooters because they probably don't need the advanced features and can find a cheaper product that fits their needs.
Overall I'm very satisfied, and I posted photos I took using the TG-4 so you can judge the image quality for yourself: http://www.juliafang.com/blog/2015/6/product-review-olympus-tg-4
Pros:
- Great photo quality while shooting underwater. This camera takes great underwater photos with good image quality. The focusing is fast and accurate. The camera is very light at less than a pound, so very easy to lug around on trips. I took all of these photos in RAW and processed them in Lightroom.
- Amazing microscope mode. First of all, it can focus when the camera is EXTREMELY close (just 1 cm!!!) away from your object. This is a very unique capability. The magnification up to 44.5x is breathtaking, as the world looks completely different at that magnification. This is such a cool feature, and another reason to use this camera instead of my DSLR. I took a photo of a pair of shorts, and zoomed in all the way to see the fibers of the material. Wow.
Cons
- Poor photo quality in dim lighting. The camera sensor is really noisy when the lighting isn't optimal. This is the case even if I use nighttime shooting modes, so I was pretty disappointed. Most of my darker images were very grainy and no amount of post-processing was able to salvage them.
- Disappointing aperture control with f/2.0 lens. One of the main reasons that I bought this camera was to be able to control my aperture size and have it as large as f/2.0. However, the camera only lets you choose 3 aperture sizes depending on your current zoom. I didn't end up taking advantage of the aperture setting as much as I would have preferred.
- Battery life is short. You need to recharge the battery after just a few hours of usage, even when it's not shooting all the time.
- The camera's battery slot was a bit damp after an underwater shoot in the ocean. Now, after each underwater shoot, I make sure to rinse the camera in fresh water, then open all of the slots and let them dry out.
- Just because it's shockproof, crushproof, and rugged doesn't mean that it won't scratch. I was riding on my bike, had my camera sitting in a bike basket and it got scratched up. So be careful and maybe get a pouch for it.
- Lack of a manual setting. I know, it's a point-and-shoot camera, but I would still prefer to be able to control the exposure time, ISO, and aperture.
- The USB cable is not a standard mini or micro USB cable, and is instead a non-standard one. Sigh.
- The camera does not come with a full user manual in hardcopy form. Instead, Olympus provides a 121-page PDF document of the manual.
Quirks on using RAW shooting
- Getting the RAW setting enabled was more difficult than it should be. Usually this is accessed by the settings menu on other cameras. For the TG-4, you have to go to the main shooting screen and select it from the options on the live screen. Also, Olympus doesn't have a RAW-only option, instead you have to choose RAW+JPEG, which I find to be pretty unnecessary and the JPEGs just take up more space on my memory card.
- Also, I will mention that RAW capture is not available in all shooting modes. You cannot use RAW for underwater HDR, microscope mode, and portrait mode. Luckily for me, none of those modes are commonly used by me, but I would still have appreciated knowing this prior to purchasing the product. Especially since Olympus advertises the TG-4 as a RAW shooting camera.
- Note: If you're going to process RAW images, you'll need Lightroom 6. Older versions of Lightroom don't have the ability to process TG-4 RAW images.

Tough Camera with RAW

Note: I haven't tested this underwater yet, but I assume it doesn't leak. Each of the 2 doors has 2 switches on it - one to lock the door and one to lock the door switch - so that it can't be opened accidentally underwater. It's a nice safety feature, but I liked the locking design of Nikon's AW130 a little better.
This is the first tough point-and-shoot camera to ever offer the RAW image format, which was the main reason I bought it. This allows me to get decent quality images without having to haul the DSLR. It also have a wider aperture than several of it's competitors (f2.0). There is no option for full manual control which is a disappointment, but the average point-and-shoot photographer wouldn't use it so I guess I understand why it wasn't included. The microscope mode is rather impressive, although I'm not totally sure how I might use it yet. If you were in the market for a waterproof camera, I'd recommend this one over others currently available based on the RAW capability alone. I've spent the past year or so researching these cameras and last year's TG-3 was the previous leader until it was replaced by the TG-4.
Also need to give kudos to BestBuy for getting this thing in my hands in 3 days with free shipping before it was available in stores.

I only needed a dust-proof camera to document research in a wood shop environment, but everything I found that fit the bill was either way above my price range or far below my performance needs. This camera has done everything I needed and then some.
Along with the features that made documentation easy - like time lapse, video, and quality photos - the bells and whistles on this camera got me doing more research just to keep using it.
Wifi makes awkward camera positions and hard-to-see-the-screen situations go away completely, macro modes provide endless fun (and scientific interest, I might add), and the waterproof body means that this camera can pretty much go with me anywhere.
I would recommend this camera to just about anybody.

I bought this camera before my wife and I went to the Caribbean. It's small and fit fine in my pocket. Once you turn it on, you can take pictures almost immediately so you don't have to worry about missing the shot. We used it snorkeling with no problems. I took a picture of a sea turtle 20 feet below me, but you can see it very clearly. I think the camera takes great pictures under and above water! Very happy with my purchase!

I was looking for an affordable camera to use on a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon that could stand up to the water and the elements for 8 days. This camera is as advertised. I first tested it in my pool underwater and it worked great. Then I took it on my trip and not only did it stand up to the water exposure, it took a beating from all of the banging around associated with boarding, un-boarding the raft, hiking and banging off the rocks and exposure to sand and grit that is every day common in the Grand Canyon. The battery hung tight for 3 days. I bought 2 back up batteries as well since electric is unavailable there. I was able to shoot over 10GB of pictures and videos with plenty of space left on a 64GB card. All in RAW format, which I am only learning about now so I cannot elaborate on that. The pictures are great! The videos are great! The burst modes worked great capturing a lot of the rapids coming over the raft. The Panorama shots came very good as well, better than other cameras Ive used but some shots still had some minor imperfections in the stitching. So very easy to use. I am going to use this as my main camera from on. Fits easily into a mans pants pocket or cargo shorts pocket. Took some great night shots of the stars too AND the flash is substantial.

I had asked friends for waterproof camera recs, and 9 out of 10 suggested I get a particular “sports-related camera” - which I was intently focused on purchasing for weeks. However, I never caught one on sale, and wasn't prepared to spend the "extra" money (with accessories etc), especially since I really only wanted something for a family vacation in early June. After "giving up" on the sports camera, I decided a waterproof point-and-shoot would be more suitable for my needs, and I did a bit of research on my options. I read a LOT of reviews, and decided on the tg-4. I determined that the positives outweighed the negatives, especially since the negatives seemed to be user preferences, and not necessarily based on camera quality; however, I was still skeptical...
Update: I just got back from my trip, and got some amazing pictures! In a word – Turtles! We only got to go on one underwater excursion, so I'm a bit disappointed that our other trip was cancelled (due to inclement weather), and I didn't get to use the camera more (as it took a day or two to get used to the features/settings). That said, I'm very happy with the underwater pictures I did get (as well as the "regular" pics), and I'm looking forward to using the macro features. I can see where the sports camera could have been helpful, but this definitely suited my needs, and is a camera I will likely get more use out of in the long run. Only complaint = for the amount of $ the camera costs, it should come with a small pouch/carry bag. The lcd screen does not have anything to protect it, and is already scratched (after ONE week) – something that will drive my mild OCD crazy.
(Note: I had a handful of pics that I wanted to post, to show different features, but I can only select 2 – both were taken completely underwater).

This camera replaces a Sony waterproof camera (TX-10) that was severely wanting in the "tough" department. After following product developments by all manufacturers for several years, Olympus finally enticed me to make this purchase by including RAW shooting capability (and releasing it just before a month-long Alaskan adventure). First thought out of the box: it's built like a tank--far more substantial than any other tough compact I've handled. Second thought (from the field): it takes spectacular pictures. The sun never set, so I cannot comment on low-light operation, but the macros are stunning. Overall assessment based on a month's hard use: if you need a tough compact, this is certainly worth considering. It's too beefy to carry about town, etc., but you probably have a smartphone for that application. I look forward to testing this camera's capabilities further in the Boundary Waters in couple of weeks.

This camera is such a next level purchase that the only question is which accessories to get first! First it shoots underwater with such clarity you will cry with joy! And it is so simple to use but the bonus: it shoots RAW! And then there is the actual corner to corner photo quality in every setting. I'm a big fan of the aperture priority setting but you may just want to find your own! One of the best bits of technology ever!

Was looking to buy a camera a little more advanced than a gopro that could go everywhere I do. It fits in my front or back pocket and turns on quickly for when you want a good shot. The zoom isn't bad but I'd advise not using the digital zoom. It won't substitute a DSLR but I couldn't think of a better companion to a professional camera. It's got good quality, it can survive the elements when you don't want to risk damaging your primary camera. It doesn't give you a lot of manual settings to play with but it'll capture in raw so you can always edit later. Although the file type for the raw picture is a hassle to open depending on the software you have. One of the best features about this camera to me is being able to shoot macro photos without any additional equipment and the photos look awesome. It's fun and versatile and great for beginners or professionals who want a companion to their heavy duty units.

I searched for months trying to find the perfect camera from my trip to Dominica Republic. It needed to be rugged and waterproof. I was going snorkeling and parasailing and riding around. This camera did everything I wanted and had so many options I forgot to use some while on vacay. It can connect to my phone and I can use the phone to snap the pics and it has great little edit features to make your pics looks funny for clean them up!! It got beat up covered in sand and dumped in the ocean/pool. Just clean it up like the directions say. Loved it!
