Mastodon have made a brilliant album, personally I like it better than their last effort "The Hunter". This album has great flow throughout. The groups vocals on this are very interesting, they all have their parts and make them work very well together. Not much screaming/yelling vocals but it still retains the heaviness Mastodon is known for. Guitar work is excellent, killer riffs with great harmonizing solos. Drums are right on par with previous material. This band is getting closer to be being at top of the metal/hard rock food chain for years to come

Alright, I don't think we'll ever get another masterpiece such as Crack The Skye, but this is a great album in its own right. It takes what was developed in The Hunter and throws in a little bit of Crack The Skye here and there.
Also, Brann's vocals have been getting better and better in the past years!
The only gripe I have about the album is that the ending of Aunt Lisa is just plain...bad, I guess that'd be the right word here? Not sure what they were thinking there lol.
Other than that, pick up this album!

Mastodon has been anointed by Rolling Stone magazine to be the best heavy metal band of this generation. Their first four albums cut new territory with each release. This album, like their previous release "Hunter", scales back their progressive tendencies in favor of shorter, more accessible songs. While some fans see this as "going commercial", I see this as a natural progression for an incredibly talented band.

The new album by Mastadon is like falling into a dream world with psychedelic imagery, unbelievable guitar solos and enough attitude to envelop you in another realm. The music is catchy, and easy to sing along to. I enjoy that Mastadon is not another cookie cutter band. Their passion and dedication for their music is obvious. Mastadon's new album is quite an inspiration.

This album is just another example of great music from great musicians. Mastodon keeps evolving with each album, but you can still tell that it's them. These guys think outside of what is conventional metal and do their own thing, and it sounds fantastic!

Mastodon continues to impress with heavy riffs and smooth grooves. They are continuing to experiment with aspects of their sound, without completely abandoning what has established Mastodon as one of the best bands in Rock & Metal today.

Mastodon is back. If you felt like "The Hunter" was a step away from their best work and a step towards a more homogenous rock and roll sound, fear not. "Once More 'Round the Sun" will be a ride you'll want to take more than just once.

Loving this album! As I said, it's another knockout album by Mastodon! My only gripe with the album is a small part at the end of one of the tracks....unlike anything Mastodon has done before, and I hope it will be the last time for them.

I'm a big mastodon fan so I like all of their albums. I wouldn't rank this as one of their best, but it's still a good cd. If you only like the really heavy older stuff you should probably preview before buying, but if you like the recent albums you will probably enjoy this cd.

I like it a lot. It’s melodic and very heavy. This is my first Mastodon album so I can’t compare it to their earlier stuff. If you like progressive metal then you should like this.

Got this after having their latest album and am a new fan. Not as polished, but still in the same vein of their current sound.

Great music as always from these guys. Heavy riffs and monster drums along with intellectual lyrics makes this album the complete package!

Mastodon continues to astound album after album. Though not as great of a record as Crack The Skye or Leviathan, it's easily an improvement over the rather 'average' The Hunter.

Feels like a sequel to The Hunter. Music is very similar. I have mostly been listening to it at work at a somewhat quiet volume, but I have been enjoying it very much!

This album was without a doubt my most anticipated album of 2014 and when I finally got my hands on it I was a little disappointed. Mastodon has been on of my favorite bands for a long time because with each album they have released they have changed up their style in order to keep a fresh sound, nothing sounds too similar when it came to Mastodon. That is why I was disappointed, Once More 'Round the Sun sounded like an offshoot of The Hunter to me, don't get me wrong I love The Hunter but I wanted something new! At first this really bummed me out, the album didn't seem like it had an identity of its own, but I decided to give it a few more listens. After the 3rd time through I found myself singing along with the songs, hearing little drum fills that I hadn't caught before, and the guitar/bass work were a lot better than I had previously thought. The album was definitely a grower for me and I'm glad I gave it the chance that it rightfully deserved. Halloween is easily my favorite track, that outro is amazing.
