This being a game from 2001 it's influences on the classic Resident Evil titles are strong. Embracing fixed camera angles and puzzles being the strongest similarities. Puzzles aren't as integrated into the game like Resident Evil games, and there's far more emphasis on embracing conflict with enemies, rather than reserving resources. If you're looking for an action game akin to Ninja Gaiden, you're looking in the wrong place. If I had to compare it to a modern game, it would be Ni-oh.

Onimusha is one of my all time favorite games. When it was announced that it was being re-released on current gen consoles I was very excited. My only complaint is that in today’s world of remakes in the vain of Resident Evil 2 I wish Onimusha received the same treatment. What is given is pretty much a straightforward port of the old game with a bump in visuals. I’m sure for those who are fans it will be fine to relive but I imagine newcomers could be a bit turned off.

The return of a Capcom classic

"Resident Evil with samurais" was probably the most common description for the Onimusha series. Like its sister series, Onimusha featured bygone gaming designs like fixed-camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, and tank controls. Capcom married these three elements into many of their games, creating fantastic and epic titles that still hold up today. While newer gamers may take some time getting used to these design choices, veteran players will feel very familiar with the setup and find their groove as they hack and slash the demonic hordes in this feudal era-inspired action-horror. Everything has been given a nice HD touch, though this does reveal some glaring graphical limitations, but the aim is to present the game in a perfected format rather than achieving the fidelity of modern-day titles. The biggest change however comes in the music, which has been remade from the ground up due to events concerning the original chief musician for the game. However, the new soundtrack remains largely faithful to the feel of the original, and the original sound effects are still present and accounted for. The Trophy/Honors the game now boast will surely challenge old and new players to put their skills to the test.
Here's hoping Capcom brings the series back to life with a new installment.

If you're a fan of the first 3 Resident Evil games you'll feel right at home with Onimusha. The game uses the same fixed camera angles, map layout and puzzles. The key difference is the more dynamic combat. You get different weapons and special abilities that keep the combat fresh.

So we can get the other, better sequels. This is a good first game in a series, if only a bit short. The graphics are actually pretty good and make me wish more new games would try the prerender style again. It might me too expensive with 4k hdr expectations nowadays, but still. It is a classic and a great representation of the games of that era.

Great remaster of an absolute PlayStation 2 Classic. They did a solid job with remastering textures and its is simple the best the game as ever looked. No other improvements really, but it is what you would expect at such an attractive price point. Hopefully this motivates Capcom to restore the other games in this long running series

This is a remaster of the Original onimusha warlods game from 2001, this game was originally for the PS2 and has been given an HD touch up for the ps4. the game looks a bit better but the main difference is zero loading times and smoother controls.

While it still retains some of it's blemishes from when it was initially released; relatively short overall length, fairly basic yet fun combat, and cliche story(that eventually becomes something deeper in later installments), it still holds up as a fun experience 18 years later.
Here's hoping the other, better games in the series get the same HD Remaster treatment soon.

i loved playing all of the onimusha series when they originally released and greatly enjoyed playing through this one again. it holds up surprisingly well and makes me wonder why capcom has decided to give up on this ip. maybe one day they'll do something with it or at least remaster the rest of the series...

Onimusha was IMO one of the better games of its generation. The remaster is solid, and does what its supposed to do: Put a new layer of paint on an already excellent game. If I had any small criticism, I suppose I could say the game hasn't aged perfectly well (though not badly by any means). However, that small gripe is more than made up by the value price of the remaster.

Item details: Game is in a standard PS4 case, no paper inserts. Just one disc--pretty much uses the same PS2 cover layout, the difference being the text on the back.
Don't expect something glamorous for this remastered version, because Onimusha Warlords is not that kind of remaster. Onimusha is one of those Capcom franchises that kinda disappeared between the PS2 and PS4, presumably forgotten to more popular IPs. For a remastered PS2 game, the mechanics work pretty well for the PS4 now that they've added analog stick support (so goodbye to the ever-dreaded 'Tank Controls'). The game still has the pre-rendered backgrounds, so your main character will definitely stand out from it. The story is also the typical 'save the princess' plot. Also note, it's a pretty short game even for an average playthrough--you'll more than likely clock in at 5 hours or less. That's 5 for the casual gamer, and 3 and under for the more experienced ones.
As far as specials or new additions to this game go, there are none. This is pretty barebones. If there was one downside, I'd say the initial pricing of 19.99 is questionable if you're not a big fan of Onimusha. So, if that's the case--I'd recommend a price drop below $15 or even $10.
If you're looking for a samurai/zombie fix for a couple of hours, this is definitely your game.

It's a very dated game. The graphics have never looked better, but at the same time, it's kind of stiff and clunky. However, if you go in just wanting a trip down memory lane, and accept that this is a PS2 game, then you can have a good time. Pretty short game, but it's still fun. Really cool setting, I really wish they'd revive this series for modern consoles.

Onimusha was one of my favorite games on the PS2. I'm happy it's been remastered on the PS4 so that a new generation can experience it! I hope the other 3 games in the series eventually get remastered as well!

HD graphics, nostalgic voice acting and somewhat clunky controls make for an experience unlike anything yet in 2019.
Story's quite simple but engaging although the ending does warrant the question, when will Capcom remaster the sequels?

I was a little surprised that they remade this game. It's a fun game with good swordsplay mechanics, but nothing truly memorable. If you haven't played it, it's s fine remake of a fun game that should entertain. Not too difficult, decent story. If you have played it, probably not worthy of a second purchase.
