I purchased this to prepare for getting a 4K tv. I have owned several Onkyo Receivers and have been pleased with their connectivity and performance. One drawback with this unit is that the 'upscaling' only works with a 480P source. I wanted to connect an xbox360 with component output so it would upscale. I could not set it to 480P (component or composite) so I had to connect the xbox video directly to the tv. The other minor situation I encountered was after setting up the speakers I found that I had to set the volume control much higher than the previous Onkyo receiver for the same level of audio. I'm not using the wired or wireless wifi so I can't comment on those features.

This receiver gets the job done. Only complaint is the CEC switching is not reliable and often results in the video signal getting cut intermittently. It can be turned off but then audio from the TV does not work for ARC. Annoying but even with the most recent firmware this is still an issue.

For the price, you'll be hard-pressed to find a receiver with more features. The 4K quality is impressive. The only complaint I have is that not all of the HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2 compatible.

I purchased this receiver to replace an older Onkyo model that I've had for about 4 years. I used to be strictly Yamaha, but found that Onkyo, dollar for dollar, feature for feature, was the much better value. Notice, I didn't say better receiver, because both are great names in Audio equipment. This receiver is my 5th or 6th in the Onkyo line and I couldn't be more pleased or satisfied with my choice. Ease of use, great OSD, straightforward manual and a pretty good remote, as well.
I would not hesitate to recommend this receiver to a friend, or relative for that matter.

This is an excellent receiver it has more then enough watts per channel to power majority of my speakers. The user interface is very user friendly. The system has every app that I was looking for when it comes to music . The system decodes all formats of audio that I throw at it. Using Arc makes life so much easier.i can't say enough about this system. I love ATMOS because of this receiver.

Over they years I have had many Onkyo AVRs. They always deliver the power and features I need. I have used other brands but always come back home to Onkyo

Great quality product and easy on the eyes. A little complicated to set up if you don’t know anything about stereos, speakers or surround sound, but nothing 30 minutes reading articles online and the manual can’t solve.

Needed a new receiver. Excellent for the price. Only weird thing is volume needs to be at 30 to be audible. No big deal because it's plenty loud at 60

Bought this to replace my Yamaha Rx-800 because I didn’t want to spend the same money to get 4K support. I’m surprised with the quality and features and on sale for less than $300. Not Yamaha quality, but I’m pleased.

my old Onkyo (606) was getting a little old, and wasn't able to keep up with my newest tv. I was waiting for technology to advance to do justice to my 4K set-up.
this model is a 656, so I knew it would be better, but I thought I would hold out for another year for a newer model. when BB put it on sale as a Black Friday deal for $250.00 (about $150.00 discount on the previous year's model); I jumped in! it has been a revelation and a delight! one remote convenience; much improved picture; and the sound is fantastic! VERY HAPPY!

Set up is a little confusing and I thought there were going to be a bunch of automatic options, but there are only a few. Setting up user name and passwords for the apps is not very user friendly. Sound is good, but I think I need better speakers to enjoy it to the fullest.

This is a quality receiver especially for price. Onkyo is a sister company to Pioneer so you know it's Pioneer guts. It took me a little while to get everything set up through the software. A great feature is that zone 2 has a completely separate volume control. So my zone 2 is set to be outdoor speakers for our bbqs and the sound is great. Two reason why I did not make this a 5 star is: 1) the Bluetooth is kind of weak. 2) if your components are running through the receiver you may have to turn the receiver to get picture and sound from the tv. But you can turn the receiver back off once the picture and sound come from the tv.
