I was having problems with a new Denon receiver so I took it to Best Buy to get something different. The Onkyo was recommended by one of the sales staff who helped me with the exchange. I am so happy with this receiver that I'll be replacing all of my other receivers with Onkyo. This receiver is packed with cool features, it has more than enough power and the interface is intuitive. Bought this to amplify my whole house speakers. Two things to keep in mind: 1) If you use Zone 2 it will drop your Zone 1 Speakers from a 7.2 to a 5.2 Surround Sound to help power the additional speakers and 2) Zone 2 can only play analog or streamed devices. It cannot play sound from any HDMI devices. Neither of these items have been a problem or concern, but they are good things to be aware of.

I have own this receiver for over 2 years now and have been a long time fan of Onkyo in terms of their quality vs price. I have had no issues with this receiver and it has performed very well. The setup was easy and the sound is great. I like that it has two HDMI outputs and has enough technology so it doesn't get outdated quickly. I would recommend this receiver.

The ONYYO TX-NR656 is just what I had wanted in a new receiver. My first requirement was that there HAD to be a dedicated phono input. The 656 has that, and my vinyl sounds as good as it ever had. All of the other ports work fine. The sound is clean and has plenty of power for me. I love the builtin functions such as airplay and chrome cast. I would recommend the 656 to the vinyl people out there.

This receiver gives you all the options you need. Good clean sound and easy set up.

This is my second onkyo receiver and this one is really great. Easy set up and sounds amazing.

I bought this for my adult son’s lady friend to replace an older model receiver. They are impressed with performance and function and especially the sale price.

Even after a couple of months, I'm still in awe of all the features and performance; still haven't tried out all of the bells and whistles. Built-in Chromecast is a extra-nice feature; ran perfectly at setup as did the built-in WiFi. The only negative I've encountered is the factory default setup for bass response is a little weak, but delving into the user preferences fixed that right up.

This unit blows away all other similar design/priced receivers. It's flexibility and build quality are beyond reproach. It is listenable for hours; smooth and simple. It's front dash is well thought out and extremely responsive. The back end, equally as well thought out. This sounds almost as good as a $6000 piece of equipment; and the wallet feels certainly 10 times better. For the money, it can't be beat.

Amp has a great sound. And is very easy to use. I would recommend this amp to anyone.

The features were what I needed and more compared to other receivers that cost more.

We just purchased this Onkyo Recieve and could'nt be happier! It supports a sysytem set-up of 7.2. My main thing was to get a reciever that could play ATMOS speakers, and this unit has that. It looks beautiful, has ample HDMI ports to support all your devices, is Bluetooth-Enabled, has a front Auxillary port to play my Ipod Classic, supports an array of Music Apps including Pandora. A great buy!

This is a good little receiver. My wife wanted a new receiver. I wanted it for surround sound. Works very well for surround sound. The AM FM receiver seems to be lacking. Reception is mediocre at best. Receiver sits in the same spot as the old one and uses the same antennae. I know some people did not like the row of buttons on the front to select the various audio sources. Personally we love it. There is no guessing as to what source you chose

Overall for the price and the features, this is a great unit. One of the things I love is the Bluetooth functionality and out of control for my phone especially for the second zone option. What I absolutely did not enjoy, was the first 24 hours. Trying to set this thing up was nightmarish and borderline going to return it after looking up the error codes. However, I was finally able to get it to work and I am completely satisfied now.

This receiver has it ALL! Plenty of power to go around! Amazing sound quality.
