    WoW! Clean Powerfull Sound

I have built a home Theater on a budget using a projector, and with a 120 inch screen, I wanted to upgrade the sound. At first I had an old Pioneer vsx-514 5.1 which was okay but not enough. I then purchased a Yamaha RX-V665 which did sound a lot better than the old Pioneer but still wasn't powerfull enough. I Had to turn the Yamaha and the Pioneer almost all the way up and the bass was weak and muddy. I still wasn't satisfied so I returned the Yamaha and asked the salesman which is your favorite receiver and he said Onkyo. Well I picked it up and noticed how heavy and ugly it was. The salesman told me it had discreet outputs and a massive high current transformer which means it will sound really good and powerfull. So I purchased this receiver, hooked it up, and listened to every song in my ipod and noticed a Huge difference in the bass response. It's so much cleaner and more powerfull I couldn't beleive my ears. The treble is also much cleaner. With the Yamaha and Pioneer I Had to turn the treble and bass all the way up. The Onkyo I have the bass only on 4 and the treble on 6 and it goes all the way to 10 leaving the previous receivers in the dust. The movies sound amazing too and dont fatigue your ears. The Onkyos Volume will go to 80 and I never have to crank it over 50 and plays all my huge speakers fine. I have all the speakers set to large except the small surrounds in the rear pushing 5 12's and the subs in the closet are 12's too for a total of 7 twelves in my home theater and dag does it sound good. The movies did sound a little harsh and bright at first, although after running the audessy setup and turning on the cinemafilter this thing brings the movies to life with a warm powerfull distortion free sound. The onscreen menus make everything very easy to setup. I am very pleased with this receiver, so go buy one! You will love it!

This Should've Been My First Choice

I went through 3 receivers in about 6 months: one blew a fuse, one would turn itself off if the volume was too loud (which I didn't think it was at all and initially attributed this more to older electrical circuitry in the apartment), and one sounded terrible for my component speakers...finally I settled on the Onkyo. The only reason I didn't go for it earlier was because it was about 100-150 bucks over my initial budget, but after all my problems, I knew my penny-pinching was costing me in the long run. The receiver is fantastic! The sound coming out of all speakers (especially the rear ones) have never sounded better. The different sound fields also sound great: I use the "sports" field for basketball games, "movies" for films, and so on. Compared to the other Pioneer and Yamaha receivers, this one blows them out of the water. Hard to run out of inputs, wattage, and volume (With this receiver, I can really blast it high...maybe it's not the circuitry after all) with this receiver. Perhaps the only downside is the remote. I only use the remote for the receiver, but somehow I can't turn off the receiver without pushing the "receiver" button on the remote first, even though it's already been selected. A small quip, not enough to ruin the overall taste. I forgot that my parents have this same exact receiver and it sounds great at their house so I do have multiple success stories with this receiver. It is a solid mid-price range receiver. The professional reviews for this Onkyo don't lie...pick this receiver up if you're looking for a solid bang-for-the-buck value

This replaced a 6 year old Sony receiver. This unit has lots of HDMI inputs and a mind boggling array of listening modes. It took a while to understand how listening modes are setup, but everything sounds great now. I haven't tried any video upconversion because everything is just passing through HDMI right now, but someday I might get around to hooking up the Wii to see how it works. I notice that I hear more surround sound on my DirecTV then I did with the old receiver, so I'm happy with it. Yes, this unit does run hot, so be sure to allow space above for ventilation. It says right on the unit that this is normal. The setup for surround sound is simple, you plug in a mic and position it in 3 spots in the room and it runs a setup program. I like this receiver and recommend it.

In the course of buying a new TV (a Samsung 7 Series 55'' LED) I decided to upgrade my receiver as well. I had a nice Technics reciever for a few years, but it was not anything to the level of the new flat panel and the bose speakers that I use. The Onkyo TX-607 is. Without a doubt, this unit delivers crisp, clear and powerful sound with a giant array of sound variations that can be used depending on your movies, music or gaming tastes. First class all the way and for me, $499 for an Onkyo that delivers like this is a great price. As well, I will be adding two rear speakers and moving to 7.1 shortly and this is ready to go (can actually add 2 front-high speakers as well, though I think that's overkill). Can't be beat! The room set up mic was an invaluable piece of equipment that comes with this and helped perfectly balance the sound in my bonus room.

Bought this after my 10 year old Sony was going bad. Love all the HDMI inputs. Picture from blue-ray is beautiful, the sound is incredible, talk about a difference.

Not very impressed Get the Pioneer VSX1019 AHK

This receiver was rated number one by some online websites but I do not think this is a very good unit. I also tried the Pioneer VSX 1019 AHK and find this to be a much better receiver. The Onkyo upconversion is only 1080i while the Pioneer is 1080P. The Onkyo sounds great with movies, but not very good with music. The inputs cannot be renamed, which I find unacceptable, my eight year old Sony could do this. Setup on the Onkyo is pretty easy to do. Easier than the Pioneer but the end result is much more pleasing with the Pioneer. This would be a good receiver for someone who just watches movies and needs a lot of HDMI inputs

I have always been a big fan of Onkyo and this receiver only confirms that. Easy setup, great power for small or large rooms, more features and connections that even the biggest techno nerd could utilize make this a great value at almost any budget.

    Onkyo TX-SR607

Took awhile to set up due to manual issues not specific for this model. The TX-SR607 does run quite hot and should have a cooling fan if it is located in a enclosure.

I was about to buy the Yamaha which is a great reciever. I tested it many times. Great sound until I saw that Best Buy had recieved the Onkyo brand. I bought it on sale expecting to return it if I was not satisfied. I am very satified. Easy to use! Powerful! Great bass! System ready for an additional front -high speakers. Great theatre sound! Rocks my new Klipsche Synergy sub as well. Also bought in Best Buy. Great staff at the Pembroke Pines, Fla. Best Buy TV/Audio section!

Amazing receiver with incredible features for the price point. Very easy to set up and calibrate based on your particular room, speaker locations, etc. The manual is easy to understand and very thorough. Sound quality is exceptional and considerably better than the older Sony model I replaced. So many HDMI inputs (6) makes this unit capable of handling tons of hardware. I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone!
