Easy to hook up and use
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Onkyo has always been fairly easy to set up and use, and this unit doesn't disappoint. The set up menus are well organized and easy to follow. (Though, full disclosure: I used to hook up and sell av receivers years ago at Circuit City, so maybe my comfort level is greater than the average receiver buyer.) The sound is Onkyo: clear and crisp, with solid deep bass. Can you find more powerful receivers? Well, sure... but at a jump in cost. What about flexibility? Anything more useful? Of course... but not at this price point. All in all, this is a great value for your home theater dollar.

Great Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a surround sound system and got rid of it and bought a sound bar for my Samsung TV. Although the soundbar is nice I missed my surround sound and I decided to upgrade my surround sound system with the Onkyo receiver and all Polk Audio series. I got the whole system and love it from the receiver to the sub-woofer and the shelf speakers and the tower speakers and the center speaker. Love the quality and sound of the Onkyo and the Polk Audio system and the price and availability with Best Buy. Highly recommend !!!! Fantastic product !!!!

Great value multi-media receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been pleased with Onkyo in the past and was happy to see this was available when it came time to upgrade for hdmi switching. The 2 hdmi outputs were what sold me as i needed a connection for both a projector and television. Surround sound is great for my current 5 speaker setup and i look forward to adding 2 more for additional depth. The passthrough when powered down makes it easy for anyone in the house to use the cable, streaming, or bluray through the TV's speakers if they don't want to fiddle with the stereo.

Great receiver!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really glad i purchased this! Although i don't have the complete 7.2 ch setup yet, the 2.1 setup I sounds great! With a little calibration it almost sounds as if i had a 5.1 setup! I really like that i can have multiple or in my case, additional HDMI connections and not have the need to actually turn on the receiver for pass-through. I can receive the signal from the HDMI device which is connected to the receiver by it only being on standby. No need to turn on the Onkyo receiver! Love that feature.

Great value in 4K A/V Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy upgrade from older Onkyo A/V receiver that only had 2 (non-4K) HDMI inputs and no BLE. Besides making input switching easier (push of front panel button or via programmed buttons on DISH remote), the sound quality to my Polk 5.1 system improved significantly. Not sure if the room audio calibration routine was significantly improved or of the unit has better audio processing (it has more modes). And I can now stream music and podcasts from my iPhone easily. Great value at $250.

Nice upgrade
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace an aging Yamaha RX-V661, it must have been 12 years old. I thought I was happy with the sound it offered, but when I switched video inputs, sometimes I'd have to restart it to get video output. So when I bought this Onkyo, I was pleasantly surprised at how crisp the sound was, how full it was. The setup for the surround sound was easy, and seems quite accurate. The only thing I don't care for is the lightweight, plasticky feel of the volume knob.

What a bargain!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been limping on old gear for a long time. This quarantine situation pushed me to go ahead and make the change so I could better enjoy the downtime. I paid $279 and it's practically a giveaway at this price for all that it can do, the quality of sound, and the ease of setup. I had an Onkyo before it and an HK before that, and I thought nothing would ever equal the sound experience of my 2-channel HK, ha! This is easy money if you want a new core for your home theater.

Prefect mid range surround sound system
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great receiver . The sound is really nice . Atmos is awesome . I have it surrounded in Polk speakers ... hardwired for the network and a lg nano hdr tv , that is atmos capable . Download the app to add extra controls . The app works with the WiFi network that both devices are connected . The app does not work if you are hardwired . If you have any issues understanding how to configure you’re setup , check YouTube for setup guides .

Great Home Theater Workhorse
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love this receiver! This beast is the heart of our 4k theater room running a projector and 7.1 Dolby Atmos. NEVER SKIPS A BEAT. The GUI is easy to use and setup is very quick and easy with the included audio calibration microphone. This is my 3rd Onkyo receiver (only upgraded, never replaced) and I couldn't be happier with the value I'm getting from this unit. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone building a home theater.

Great sound, great value
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big Onkyo fan. I bought my first Onkyo system 10 years ago. I bought this system for a friend’s outdoor living room sound system. It provides plenty of power and by using multiple zones he is able to listen to the TV and have music playing towards the pool. The App is very stable and easy to use. I’ve already install 3 receivers in 3 of my friends houses. They are very reliable and easy to use. I will continue to buy Onkyo as long as they continue to provide quality products at fair prices.

GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR OLD 24 YR PIONEER A/V RECEIVE
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, so far I am enjoying my new A/V Receiver , my other A/V Receiver which bit the Dust after 24 years of use would have cost just as much to repair it for the price that I payed for this one so I decided to get a New one and after doing some Research I Decided on purchasing the Onkyo TX 686 Which I am finding out has a lot of features which my old Receiver did not have, over all so far I like it a lot, maybe in the future I will be able to give a better review for this Item. Yes I recommend this receiver to who ever has the Money to purchase one. I think that it is a great value.

5 Star value, 4 star performance
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a basic Yamaha rxv373. Compared to that: Pros - deeper, more controlled and dynamic Bass; bigger sound field - sound doesn't sound like it's coming from individual speakers like the Yamaha did; more detail, easy to set up and use (obviously it offers more with 7 channels, Dolby Atmos and more power) Cons - Degrades video performance so I had to run hdmi direct from source and run just audio into the receiver; more laid-back in the mid-range and treble than the Yamaha and slightly less natural-sounding. Certainly a great value and probably better than entry-level receivers. However you may want to shop around if comparing to a mid-range receiver. I have owned pretty much every make receiver in the past and consider myself somewhat of an audiophile.

Apparently the amp shorted out
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The receiver seemed to have an on and off again issue since I bought it, but didn’t realize it was the receiver, thought it was my speakers. I would have intermittent static coming from one speaker that would come and go. I would check connections in back of receiver and even changed speaker wire and thought it was all good. Then one day a few weeks ago the receiver popped and threw codes on front panel. Now there is a permanent code of NG:L and within a few minutes the unit shuts off. Tried resetting the unit but it doesn’t help. Called the local onkyo service center in Clearwater, Fl Jersey Jim’s and they suggested the amp shorted out. Would cost $60 to properly diagnose the problem and wouldn’t give me estimated price for repair. I paid around $300 for this and not sure it’s worth repairing. Very bummed about this. Bought in 2019 to replace a Rotel 1057 whose digital board went out.

Onkyo TX-NR686 is a GREAT product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This AV device is great. It does everything I need it to do. I had a slightly older model of this device and it worked great too....... the old one lasted over 10 years! This is a 4K device with Bluetooth. When my old one died I called Onkyo and asked them which AV device would take my old speakers and they recommended this one. My old speakers and woofer hooked up to this device and worked perfectly. I highly recommend this device....

Great 4K capable AV unit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently upgraded to 4K in the main TV area so we needed a new 4K capable AV unit. I also have an old turntable, so I needed the Phono hookup. This unit has the Phono hookup plus it also has 2 HDMI output channels so I can run one to the patio. The number of inputs give me enough to hook up all of our various components, plus a video game console, and still have an HDMI free to plug in my laptop for gaming. The setup process with the microphone for automatically leveling the outputs was a breeze.

Very nice Receiver. Works well!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a receiver for our Family Room in our home. The previous owner had put Surround speakers in the ceiling since the room is open. It sound good and works well with our 4K Smart TV. Very easy to setup and calibrate. The one feature that seems to be missing is a easy way to adjust volume levels on individual speakers after it does the auto Calibration. It allows you to control an equalizer volume per frequency for each speaker. I wanted something similar. Overall it sounds good and happy with my purchase.

Nice
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound quality. Running with B&W 606 speakers, a JBL center, Yamaha sub and an analog Sony turntable. Home theater sound has never been better. Updated from a Denon AVR 1513 to get Bluetooth, WiFi and phono input so I could declutter and eliminate the phono pre-amp. Noticed immediate improvement in both theater and music audio. My favorite feature is AirPlay. Streaming audio from my Apple devices is great. Very pleased with this unit.
