Great Receiver for the Value! This is a 7.2 channel paired with a 5.1 Harman Kardon Home Theater set up, really a blast, love the multiple inputs (HDMI, Analog and Optical Source), tested the CD music Sounds great! plug in the Blu Ray player via Main ARC HDMI, able to pass/upscale the video so clear! Tried the Bluetooth Audio connection, it is given that (video is noticeable) audio will have some delays but the sound is still great! Would definitely suggest to utilize the Optical connections for optimum sound! I did set my receiver as Stereo all channels since we really like YouTube audio output from our Smart TV, there are plenty of settings you can try and yes, you can adjust Bass and Treble on Tone settings, even on 5/10, it is already enough to blast your ears and feeling a chest vibrating bass! For the price and entry level receiver, family is so happy that we have this! Got my item as open box and highly recommend to have a Geek Squad for an extra protection! Well we are looking forward that we are going to enjoy this Onkyo receiver for many years to come! Awesome loaded features and sounds!

I don’t often write reviews, but this thing performed beyond all of my expectations.
1) it’s beautiful
2) it’s super easy to set up. I easily connected to our WiFi, set up ARC, calibrated sound, updated firmware and was watching a movie in less than 30 minutes.
3) Every feature I wanted was there. You can set pass-thru to “last” so that any component can bypass the receiver, even without turning the receiver on and selecting a new source!
4) Sound quality is excellent. It brought my speakers back to life.
5) Remote is simple and effective. My wife and son have no problem using the home theater now.
I was just incredibly impressed with how well everything worked. I spent $700 on a Yamaha (lifelong fan) basement receiver and this one surpasses that in all ways besides power. I’m excited to hook up zone 2 to some outside speakers this Spring.
Hope this helps you decide!

I wanted to update an older existing all in one (tuner and dvd) Home Theatre system but keep the 4ohm 5.1 speakers. After reviewing all of the alternatives this Onkyo seemed the most appropriate at a very reasonable price. I did upgrade all of the speaker wires and add a new powered subwoofer. The setup for the system was easy and it sounds great. This setup is 4K ready and has inputs for my dvd, Wii player, and Apple TV.
Highly recommended.

Excellent receiver. Couldn't be happier with the purchase. I use the receiver to power 2 JBL speakers that are installed in my backyard. Plenty of power and they are crystal clear over long distance speaker cable runs! The Bluetooth connection works perfectly and the built in Chromecast makes it so easy to send your Spotify music selections to the outdoor speakers even though the receiver is inside with my other components. Highly recommend.

This reciever has outperformed my wildest expectations and it's delivering incredible, clean, power to my Klipsch towers and surrounds. The Dolby Atmos sounds amazing. Easy set up and everything you would expect from Onkyo. Great price for an amazing product. I was a die-hard pioneer home audio guy for over 20 years. My pioneer "elite" receiver now powers the speakers in my garage. The Onkyo is that good.

Replaced my 10yr old Pioneer 5.1 receiver. Onkyo had all the features and power I was looking for including phono jack. Took me a while to rig my system so I could listen to TV speakers without Onkyo receiver on for quiet times. Used digital optical cable to TV and running all HDMI's to TV instead of to receiver. Sounds great, easy to balance speakers and use. Plenty of power for my subwoofer and Bose speakers.

Upgraded on a whim because of price and hdmi features. Learning curve on setup but not hard. The phono feature is a plus , if you have a turntable it has great sound , if you don’t have one you should consider getting one ! Sound eq is very good . Tv picture quality is an improvement . The multiple inputs provide easy integration of devices ant streaming is really easy .

I upgraded my tv to a 4k and my Yamaha receiver has hdmi, but it was ver. 1.4. I needed 2.2. I kept getting errors on Youtube and there wasn't a firmware update for the old receiver.
As for the Yamaha. I love that it has a phono jack and I can run my old Technics turntable. Listening to old vinyl is a different experience vs. digital mp3's, flac or Apple lossless. The sound that it puts out through my old Sony 5.1 speakers is really good. I can't wait till I can afford a nice 7.1 surround sound speaker set. The five hdmi in and two out are really handy. I haven't used the second out, but it's nice to know I have it available.
The only downside to this unit is no cassette out. Since what's old is new again, it would be nice to hook up a cassette deck. I'll just use my shelf system for that. It converts cassette analog to mp3 anyways.

Set this up last month and I’ve slowly decided it’s a great addition to my surround sound. So I had previously had this amped up system installed which costs a arm and a leg. Came to find out when I upgraded TVs that to program the new gear I’d have to pay a rep for them to reprogram the system.
So I moved on to Onkyo and I’m so glad I did. The app it comes with calibrated my surround sound in a way I never thought I’d be able to do.
If your intimidated by stereo and surround sound systems don’t be. Make sure you have your speakers set up and the rest is a piece of cake.
In five years I couldn’t have my outdoor speakers on a separate channel all alone and now I can do that while playing different stuff inside!
I’m enthralled!

This receive replaced a 25 year old stereo receiver which finally bit the dust. Its ability to work with bi-amp speakers was a main purchasing point for me. Setup (including wireless networking) was extremely easy. I run it into a set old bi-amp speakers and a set of satellite speakers. The Onkyo controller app works very well and I find it extremely useful to navigate my Flac audio files on the flash dive I attached, I normally use direct mode for music. This unit could easily replace my receiver in my main stereo system I do not use the phono input, but it was a purchasing point in case i ever need to replace my stereo receiver; I am very happy with this receiver as it meets and exceeds my needs and expectations.

This is a great Amp. I like the on TV menu to change settings. It sounds great but I did have one problem. I tried using the set-up Mic 3 times before giving up. The display shows your speaker diagram and I had all 7.1 before I started and after using the set-up Mic I only had my 2 main speakers. I could hear the white noise during set-up and it showed my speakers but I lost all my surround and subwoofer. I turned up my woofer to max, did the setup and got my front 2 and woofer to register. Same thing on my 3rd try. I couldn't get anything from my surround so I did a factory reset and it erased the set-up along with the name changes I had entered but I had a 7.1 diagram on my display and a good sound from all speakers. This in no way changes how much I like my receiver. I highly recommend this Amp. Lots of features.

So far, so good. It's a bit large, but it does everything. We bought this model because the last one we had, which was the same, but previous model from Onkyo, developed a bad power supply after only two years. (Started non-stop buzzing after the unit heated up, about fifteen minutes after turning it on.) To repair the unit would have meant shipping the whole thing at our expense, and a several-hundred-dollar bill. It was cheaper and more convenient to just buy the newer model. Thankfully, our Best Buy, which has limited stock, had it in the store.
I notice the sound quality is significantly better that the previous model, and I hope the power supply holds up a bit longer. Planned obsolescence--sheesh!

Using the included microphone and following the on-screen prompts, initial setup was pretty straightforward and I've been happy with the settings so far on my 5.1 system with Klipsch speakers all around. The receiver has been a solid performer for the past few weeks since setup. I replaced an older Onkyo receiver and I can definitely hear a huge upgrade in the processing circuitry and overall sound quality. I especially like the Zone 2 options for a second set of speakers. The remote app could stand some refining, but it works and performs as advertised.

... after one of its channels started to become intermittent. I was able to hook up all my HDMI gear (Samsung SmartTV via ARC, Apple TV 4K, Sony Blu-ray, Spectrum cable box) and even my old Wii (using component connection) with no major issues. I was also able to “bi-amp” my old front speakers, which seems to make them sound better. One minor annoyance is related to the Samsung Anynet+ ARC connection to the Onkyo, which causes the Onkyo’s HDMI input to switch to TV a few seconds after the TV is powered on - a known Samsung feature/issue. We always have to switch the Onkyo back to CBL/SAT, our primary viewing device. Yeah, I could disable Samsung Anynet and rewire it for digital audio output, but I wish the Onkyo’s firmware could be updated with “advanced” config settings to ignore/override the spurious Samsung ARC input change.
