The set up of the unit is easy as are the directions. You must complete your activation and preferences online and there are a couple of spots that might be a bit confusing, so time will tell, knowing that you can always go back and revise/update as need be. I am not understanding the 4 weeks to port over my phone number; porting is usually done within a mater of a few hours for cell and land lines. I might have rated this higher if this capability was more accommodating. I also know for a fact that it doesn't cost $39.95 to port a number; I worked in the telecom industry and most all carriers do not charge to port a number, considering to port a number to your system is basically bringing new business to your company. I just activated and set everything up today. The sound quality is excellent, I can tell no difference from having AT&T and I'm happy to have several features such as voice mail and call fwd that I did not have with the AT&T landline service. I also liked seeing Ooma give me an estimate of what my month charges will be (I'm not interested in international) which for me, in my state and with all applicable taxes and fees amounts to $5.11 - at least a $40 savings per month IF this is the case. So where I am right now is waiting to see how long does it take to port my number and how much money am I really going to save once the "dust settles out" on all these changes and the port charge. Based on when and what comes of this, I could possibly change my overall rating to 5 stars.

Purchased this to replace our home phone (Verizon Wireless home phone). Easy installation: First Go to ooma site, create an account & register the ID number on the device wrapper, then just conect power supply to strip, attach ethernet cable from router to RJ45 socket on rear of device, attach phone to RJ11 socket. The inital power on, I had to wait a couple of minutes for updates to be installed, then was greeted with a musical dialtone. After a few calls to friends to test the call quality, initiated the current number porting process. The website stated that it could take several weeks to take place, but was completed in only 6 days. They sent emails informing me of the progress. The documentation was clear, and led me through the process with only one exception. The location for number porting was not in plain sight. I found it on the My ooma dashboard website, under Sales|Services. I haven't explored all the standard features yeat and none of the Premium services. The initial services replicate our prior phone services nicely. My only concern is power outages. We get them here occasionally during severe weather, and my UPS unit has only a 45 minute capacity. We'll use our cell phones in that case (assuming the cell towers stay up. All in all, nice product, easy to install, delivers great performance at a good price. (My wife, who is a technophobe, didn't even notice the switchover)

This was the best purchase for a home phone service option. I did hours of research and glad I found this little gem. My cell service is abysmal in the house, so something had to be done. There is a one time cost for this box. It was literally plug and play. I did have to wait a few minutes for the little symbol to turn blue. I thought something was wrong at first. Just be patient. It will turn from the red to blue in a few minutes. But then, that's it! I picked my number out online and had a phone up and working. Call quality is perfect, no feedback or echoing. My bill is literally what was estimated on the website for my area. It's like $4 a month. Wow! Totally worth it so that I can hear! Thanks OOMA!

I had been considering Ooma for a while and finally purchased it to reduce my phone bill. I had a bundle from Time Warner Cable that I felt was too expensive. The Ooma set up was quick and easy (about 5 minutes). I followed the setup guide without a problem. The Ooma web page was easy to follow and I was able to customize my features. I kept both systems up and running simultaneously (used a temporary Ooma number). I had my home number forwarded to the temporary Ooma number to see how it worked. The calls came in fine and clear. I did call customer service a couple of times and they were very helpful. One web feature I like is the ability to forward calls to my cell phone in the event Ooma is not working. I subscribed to the premier service. This allowed me to port my existing number from TWC for no additional fee. I did not think the web page was clear on the porting options: 1 - pay to port for a one time fee or 2 - sign up for the premier plan and get free porting. I selected option 2 because I like the additional features of premier. However, I had to go back through option 1 to request the porting of my home phone number. When I went through the porting request at the end they offered an additional $20 off the first year to sign up for premier, which I did not get automatically, I had to call customer service and explain what happened. The representative did give me the $20 credit. I have had Ooma solo for about a week and I am pleased. My monthly bill for Ooma is less than $15/month which includes the premier service and the phone fees and taxes.

I've had Ooma internet phone service for a month now. It was easy to install and set up. I had to play with it for a week or so to get it where I wanted. Once I made all the adjustments (online) it's doing what I want it to do. Also Ooma has good features you can use. Overall it works really well.

At first, I was skeptical about Ooma, but I gave it a shot, and so far it's a wise way to go if you like having a landline. Look beyond the upfront cost (purchasing the Telo) for it to make sense. Once you've done that, it's literally $4-5 a month to have a home line, because all you have are taxes and fees - which vary by location. Period. That monthly expense is paid via credit card directly to Ooma through your account. Ooma offers a $20 credit to both the current and new customer when there's a referral - so sign up by a friend's email link if you know someone who has it. I didn't know this until I had already purchased it. Setup is easy. While the Ooma Telo needs to connect directly to your modem or router, the phone does not. Their own phone unit can be anywhere within range of the Telo. Ooma offers accessories for, say, having a receiving unit with its own jack for a different type of phone, or hooking up your fax machine. I realized that my new Ooma phone number can be permanent, no matter where I may move - and, I think it remains available if you use it internationally. Welcome to VOIP. Service-wise, no issues. The quality does depend on your Internet service, and if you lose Internet, you'll lose your landline. I would have done this sooner if I had known about it.

It's great. It answers my phone calls and keeps messages without my phone even being plugged into it. It also sends me a text when I get a new message so I don't miss calls. I can't call from it, so I need to plug my phone in for that, but I haven't done that yet because my outlet is full of other things. It saves me from having to pay $20 a month for a landline.

If your neighborhood or apartment complex is switching to voip landline phone service, I can’t recommend this device enough. Mine did and for months I strained my brain trying to configure my phone using I different brand adapter. But my brother and my landlady told me about Ooma so I bought the base unit and two Linx devices for my other two phones and it was a million times easier to get my phones working again. On top of that, the monthly charge is doable if you’re budget conscious.

To be quite honest, I do not have a lot of experience with other similar devices, but the OOMA Telo is extremely reliable and dependable. I have used one for over 4 years. and I have set them up for quite a few other persons. The quick setup and ease of use is unmatched. They just plain work. On my personal setup, I have a Panasonic 5 phone cordless DECT system with voicemail I could not be more pleased. If you purchase this unit you will not be disappointed.

This is the perfect solution if you need a home line, but don't want to be paying a huge phone bill monthly. I use my cell as my main line so having a phone in the house has not been important for years. Now that I need one, I found this system fit the bill perfectly. Easy to use and easy to afford. The sound quality is great and aesthetically it has a clean look that does not scream "cheap".

I did my research up front and found that OOMA was the best value for me. It was very easy to hook up and get going. The phone quality is great and it has a feature where you can access a nation wide block call database that has totally blocked telemarketers. I haven't had a single telemarketer call since I activated this feature. This was a great purchase for me that practically eliminated (all but taxes) the home phone bill for me. I can see why they won best VoIP phone 5 years running. No, I don't work for OOMA and I don't get anything from them (except a good phone service experience).

This was exactly what we were looking for to unplug from big bills from ATT for landline service! Simple to set up, easy to use and includes free bonus items like retrieving VM from cell phone number via forwarding feature. Can monitor incoming calls and VM easy to use. Very clear call quality. Ax high landline bills from corporate and throw away the phone machine. Ooma only charges for nominal taxes/fees. Otherwise all activity funneled through wifi. We're saving 75%/month compared to old ATT bare bones hardline service.

I highly recommend this Ooma home phone VoIP Service. The set-up was relatively easy, and so far it works great! They offer varying levels of service, but I am going with the basic service which is basically free phone service. I only have to pay taxes and fees which for me is about $7.00 a month. I did have to pay a $40.00 fee to port my phone number from my previous provider, but for me I felt it was worth it. If you need inexpensive home phone service, I think you can't go wrong with this service.

My cable company charges $45 plus taxes and fees for phone, which has been rock solid. It should be noted that the cable company includes the advanced features that ooma charges an extra $10 for. So why am i doing this - to save $. An initial outlay is $137 with tax on sale at Bestbuy - $30 mail in rebate = $107. After that, approximately $4 / mo in phone fees. At approximately three months, I will break even. Customer support is great, very professional and courteous. We had some noise on the line which was traced to a wireless phone that had weak batteries. That's it. No problems with ooma telo after 2 months. We have used the phone in state and out of state, no issues what so ever. Ooops, forgot there is a $40.00 phone transfer fee to keep your old number. If you get the advanced plan for $10, the port fee is waived. So payback is 4 months, not 3 months.

Easy-peasy ... and cheap. Porting my old landline number to the unit took about a week and added $49 to the cost. But that's it forever, except monthly mandatory taxes that all phone lines require (for 911 service etc.). My taxes are less than $8 and I got a precise estimate on the Ooma website before purchase. Plugged in an old Panasonic wireless phone base to the Ooma, and all my handsets and the answering machine work. Plus Ooma has its own answering machine if I'd rather use that.

We've had our Ooma for years now and it still performs exactly how we would expect. It has saved us a ton of money off our phone bill over that time. One perk is that if a call isn't able to go through to our phone (phone gets disconnected, power or internet is out, etc.), people can still leave us a message. It basically gives us some of the functionality of a cellphone.

We bought this to replace a landline with a spam blocking answering machine. We got tired of listening to the phone ring, then our announcement, then the disconnect for every spam call. We still get the calls, but only see the evidence in the app. Sound quality is good, and the ability to pick up the call on my phone is very convenient.
