I bought this projector during the Black Friday weekend in 2021. The specifications seem great and I even had the Best Buy Premium team install the system. At first it worked great. Then a couple of weeks later it kept having a warning about the HDMI connection and it would sometimes make the entire screen go black and then the entire page was the HDMI problems page. Afterwards it kept getting worse and the screen would sometimes flicker and the system would make a sound like the power had just gone out along with the screen flickering. Now, today it won't power on completely and just shows the OPTOMA symbol, but won't complete the power up process. I've contacted my Premium Team representative and won't be able to get anyone to trouble shoot until Monday... it's Saturday night and no big screen! SO, not sure if it will get fixed or if we have to switch to another brand that will actually work all of the time and not just part of the time!

Very good projector. The only problem I have is that sometimes it will freeze and stay stuck on the startup screen.

If you're reading this thinking, hey, I can handle tech stuff, no big deal, this guy is probably just dumb, you might be right. I do, however, have experience installing and calibrating projectors, short or long throw, and was excited for a new 4k hdr experience. Get ready for the cry fest.
Tough to setup doesn't even cut it. The optoma smart app is trash, and I can't get this thing aligned at all. The optoma setup videos I watched online don't actual show what happens when you set this up. I paid more for this than the vava 4k because it's supposed to be better, but I can't tell if it's worth it because i can't get it to adjust more than an inch in any direction. Just straight garbage. Straight rage quit garbage.
Contacted optoma support to see if they can help but I'm on the verge of just returning this and review bombing everywhere I can find.

Dear Optoma Customer,
We do apologies you are experiencing these issues, please give our Tech Support line a call at 888-289-6786(6am- 5pm) PST so one of our agents here can assist you in walking through the setup. It is important to remember you will need to have a screen with a border around it, and you will need to have the test patter pulled up on the projector. Once those two things are done and you have units connected to the same network and the app open simply point your camera to the screen and it should just work out fine. We can definitely go over this in more details.

So far very happy with the overall quality of the image. My only problem is the app on the iPhone keeps dropping off and I can’t adjust the image on my screen. My problem is that I can’t get the upper left corner to be square.

The image quality is good but
1. it's Impossible to get the projected image to be needed size nor shape, since it's only dependable of the physical position of the projector
2. You can use the software for screen adjustments, but that feature is off in the game mode.
3. The projector is not turning off or on by hdmi
4. The mobile app has 1 start in both iOS and Android and just crashing all the time

I've had this setup with a Denon 960 and have nothing but HDMI issues. It seems to always have a connectivity issue with Roku. Even if I hook Roku up to HDMI port 2.
I am about to return this thing, nothing more embarrassing than paying $3k for a projector that can't even get their HDMI connections correct! Stay away!!!

Hello, Sorry to hear about the issue you experienced.
We are aware of the issues with HDMI 2.1 AVRs from Denon. When new technology emerges, compatibility issues with existing products can occur. An update will be released within the next month.
As for the Roku issues, PLEASE contact support with more details such as the model. The Roku Ultra 4K and Roku 4K Stick are both part of our test matrix - we currently do NOT have any known issues with either product.

I had to return this unit. The image quality was way worse than what I expected, I also suspect my unit had some issues, and also the operational system is horrible (I would give ZERO stars for that). The native apps have several issues and bugs. If you buy this unit make sure you have an Apple TV (or similar) to connect to the device.
