It works well and as you would expect, but the app does tend to mess up quite a bit. If you just want the toothbrush and aren't going to use the app often it's a great buy when it's on sale.

Only had this electronic toothbrush for a week now and I love it. My teeth and gums feel and also start looking better. I tried the bluetooth thing one time, and it's okay, but more of a gimmick than something really useful. I also have a Braun electric shaver that lasted for several years (and still going) so I expect this toothbrush will last as long. The toothbrush is made in Germany but the travel case is made in China so dinging a star for this. Overall great purchase so far.

I've used a Sonicare toothbrush for a few years, but my wife never really liked it that much. So, I thought I'd try out this new Oral-B brush. I think my wife actually does like the Oral-B, which is good, but I don't like it as well as my old one. On the plus side, the handle is large with a grip surface so it's very comfortable to use. Unfortunately, I found the brush heads to be just slightly (maybe a quarter to half inch) too short to comfortably reach my very back teeth. I haven't researched yet, but maybe there are replacement heads that are a bit longer. I do like the rotating brush head and it seems to do a great job cleaning. There are quite a few different styles available to suit your needs, like regular brushing, whitening, and even one that acts a bit like flossing. The storage case is nice and would be really great for traveling. Not only does it hold the brush handle, but it has room for a couple of brush heads. You can plug it in to charge the handle, and it also comes with a convenient USB port for charging your phone at the same time. It also has a small inner lid designed to act as a stand for your phone so you can use that while brushing. Speaking of the phone, the app integration is my least favorite feature of this brush. It almost seems to me like a solution looking for a problem. They may have rushed it out to get a jump on the competition because I found it to be a little difficult to use. It was also not very consistent in detecting which area I was brushing, or sometimes even that I was brushing. Overall, I really don't have much value for the phone integration. Still, it's a good electric toothbrush and gets your teeth nice and clean. I assume most people would want it primarily for that, but if you're looking particularly at the phone integration you might check out some other reviews to see if people had a better experience with it than I did. If you just want a good, reliable tool to get your teeth clean, then I think you'll be perfectly happy with this.

I’m a long time user of the sonic-powered competition. I tried Oral-B many years ago but it was one of the lower end models and I wasn’t really impressed at the time. In fairness, this was over a decade ago, so I decided to give Oral-B another try to see if it could sway my opinion and possibly even convince me to switch brands. This Genius X package comes with the brush body, a charging stand, power cord, carrying case/smartphone stand and three brush heads. The carrying case can accommodate the brush body and two heads. It can charge the brush inside the case and also doubles as a holder for smartphones while brushing. It also has a USB charging port that allows the case to be used to charge a smartphone or other USB equipped device along with the brush. I get just under two weeks of use between charges with twice daily use. The included brush heads are the cross-action, floss action and 3D white brushes. The cross and floss action brushes focus on plaque removal and gum care while the 3D white brush focuses on polishing and whitening teeth. The set was easy to setup, charge and sync with the Oral B Bluetooth app on my phone. The toothbrush is easy and intuitive to use. Just push the power button and, if desired, select a brushing mode. I typically use the default mode which is two minutes in duration and has vibrating and audible alerts to remind me to switch brushing quadrants. The six brushing modes are the default daily mode, gum care, whitening, sensitive, pro clean and tongue cleaning. There is a customizable light ring on the brush that can be set to a desired color and glows red when too much pressure is applied. I like that the brush stays on even after the two minutes has elapsed. My former brush would shut off automatically after two minutes but I often wanted to brush a little longer. I really like the style and action of the brush heads. My biggest complaint with my sonic toothbrush was that the size and shape of the brush head made it difficult to effectively reach my back teeth. As a result, no matter how much I brushed and flossed those teeth, my dentist always informed me that the pocket depths around my farthest back teeth were deeper than the other teeth. That indicates more plaque was accumulating on those teeth than the others. The smaller round head of the Oral-B allows me to reach even the farthest back teeth with ease and properly massage the tooth and gum line back there. I’m really looking forward to my next dentist appointment in February to see whether the switch to Oral-B improves the pocket depth on my back teeth. The rotating head also seems better at polishing my front teeth. My sonic toothbrush was actually less effective at whitening my teeth than my manual brush. Every couple weeks or so I would switch back to a manual toothbrush for a few days to make my teeth whiter. So far, the Oral B is doing a great job of whitening. The Bluetooth enabled app is the only area where this toothbrush falls short to me. The app paired easily with the brush and maintains a reliable connection but it’s downhill from there. Honestly, I feel the only useful feature of the app is the head replacement reminder that alerts you when it’s time to replace the brush head, usually after 90 days. I was initially excited to use the coaching feature of the app but it’s too unreliable to be truly useful. The AI brushing monitor is supposed to keep you on track with brushing and help motivate and promote better brushing habits. The app also keeps a daily log of brushing and awards badges for brushing milestones and achievements and can generate brushing reports for export to PDF. My main issue with the app is that it frequently misses areas I brush or indicates the wrong area being brushed. For example, sometimes I will be actively brushing my lower right quadrant and the app will indicate I’m brushing the upper right quadrant. Sometimes it doesn’t detect brushing at all. I once brushed for nearly five minutes and the app didn’t detect any areas being brushed. I tried switching the brush position, rotating the brush handle, moving the phone closer to the brush and repeatedly brushing one area for a lengthy period. I never saw any teeth highlighted as being actively brushed in the app. When I finally stopped brushing, the app said it couldn’t record the session because I didn’t brush for at least thirty seconds. Even if it didn’t properly detect the areas I brushed, it should have at least recorded that the brush was on and brushing for five minutes. Instead, it failed to log that I even brushed at all. I know the brush was connected to the app because the timer kept running the entire time and I saw occasional flickers of the teeth being brushed but never a solid indication. I originally planned to share my brushing reports with my dentist but the results are too unreliable to do so. There are also entries in the app for flossing, mouthwash and gum bleeding that also don’t seem to work correctly. The app occasionally asks me if my gums bled after brushing but it’s very inconsistent. Out of five sessions, I may get asked once. I have no idea how to enter the data for flossing, mouthwash rinse and tongue cleaning. The app never asks me about those categories and, like the gum bleed category, there is nowhere in the app to manually enter the data. App aside, I like this Oral-B brush. I like it so much that I gave my top-of-the-line sonic toothbrush to my wife, with new heads of course. I like how the Oral-B can easily hit specific teeth and reach the farthest back teeth of my mouth without difficulty or constantly triggering excessive pressure alerts. I also like how effective it is at whitening my teeth and making them feel and look cleaner. I'm not saying the sonic brush is inferior. I just feel the Oral-B is more appropriate for my needs. On the other hand, the app was so unreliable that I eventually ditched it. Thankfully, it's not mandatory to use the app and I don't really feel like I'm missing out on anything by not using it.

I got this at a slamming deal and upgraded from my 5000. This is stronger in vibration I’ll tell you that and the color black is amazing. I though the black would look crusty but as long as every time you brush your teeth you clean it off you will be fine. I will say the black shoes more scratches though but overall it is sleeker. I love the AI system on the app but hate that it took away my news, photos, weather on the bottom of the app while I brush my teeth.

This toothbrush has a smart design and really teaches you how to improve your brushing with noticeably cleaner feeling teeth. The toothbrush has a light ring that acts as a coaching tool. It displays your favorite customizable color when you are doing a good job, blinks to tell you to switch areas of your mouth, and turns red if you use too much pressure. This combines with a smart phone app that shows you places you might have missed, gives you a feedback score, tips, and logs your brushing. I definitely needed to slow down and apply less pressure. Now I get great results with less effort than my old brush. I also love the design and included accessories. You get 3 different brush heads to try. It comes with a travel case that charges the toothbrush, holds 2 brush heads, has a USB port and stand for your phone (so you don’t have to hold it while using the coaching app), and has a dishwasher safe inner liner. It also has a stand for at home, which is inductive so there are no contacts to get wet or corrode. No issues with battery life either. I used it for a little under a week right out of the box with out charging it. Minor complaint is that the smartphone app is fairly basic, but it gets the job done and even has a few tricks. I highly recommend this product and will probably be buying another one as my wife has already claimed the first one.

Great Brush that Teaches You How to Properly Brush

The Oral-B Genius X (10000) is a great toothbrush that does what a dentist should be doing for you – coaching you thru your brushing for an optimal clean – just without all the judgement. I haven’t used an electric toothbrush in years, but found I had the best cleanings I’ve ever had with a toothbrush and wondered why I wasn’t using one all this time. The device can be used standalone or can be paired with your smartphone with the built-in Bluetooth connectivity for app-based feedback. Starting with the brush in standalone mode, the device features 6 different settings for cleaning: Daily Clean, Pro Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, Massage, and Tongue Cleaner. There is not a great explanation of what these modes are online, but basically it has to do with length of cleaning & oscillation of the brush head. Most modes are around a 2-minute cleaning, while the Pro Clean cycle runs around 3 minutes. Tongue Cleaning is around 30 seconds. The device honestly works to re-teach you how to brush, something most people are woefully bad at (if you saw what my standard brush looks like after a few weeks, you can tell I’m pushing too hard). To give you that feedback, a colored LED ring around the toothbrush will change from the nice blue when brushing to a bright red color to let you know you’re brushing too hard. Basically, use the mindset of “let the brush do the work”, letting the brush do the cleaning, not the pressure. The brush includes an AI sensor that knows what orientation the handle is in, knowing what quadrant of the mouth you’re brushing (upper-left, lower-right, etc.). The handle will vibrate at 30-second intervals to let you know to shift to the other quadrant (longer on the Pro Clean mode). Pairing the device with the Oral-B app gives you additional feedback on your brushing. When using the app, you will see a representation of your mouth on the screen, with the teeth being progressively colored white as you complete the brushing of an area. This is actually better than the vibration feedback to tell you to move, as you can actually see more accurately what areas you have fully brushed. The summary at the end of brushing will show you stats like how hard you brushed (teeth area highlighted in red), total time brushing, etc. The app will also conduct assessments of your brushing habits, reminders on flossing, rinsing (mouthwash), ask if you have gum bleeding at the end of brushing & make recommendations accordingly, and give you goals to work toward. It will also sync brushing sessions if the toothbrush is used offline & then the app is later launched. Charging of the handle is done by setting it back down on the base (included). The device also includes a case for taking on the road and can be charged in the case (but cord is required). The case also has a USB port to allow passthrough charging of a smart phone, as well as a stand in the case for your phone (since you’re going to be using your phone at the same time as the toothbrush). What I was disappointed in was the lack of a battery in the case. Putting the toothbrush in the case for travel will require you to also take the power cord with you if you need to charge the battery on-the-road. I would have liked a battery in the case so you could go without the cord. Brush heads are interchangeable and includes 3 new brushes in the package. Each includes a variety of colored rings to place around the bottom of the head for use with different people in the family. Standard replacements are available in most stores that sell oral care, but there are a number of additional head types available on the Oral-B website for everything from kids sizes, sensitive clean, flossing style, whitening, and even a head for people with braces. Overall, I wish I had started using an electric toothbrush long ago. And this is a great tool for relearning how to do a basic daily task – brushing properly. Highly recommended.
