So much better than something on my wrist

The Oura Ring 4 ceramic has been a great addition to my healthy lifestyle journey. I’ve been messing with wrist-based fitness trackers for a long time. I just don’t like how they feel. I don’t like things on my wrists. About 10 days in, and I can easily say that I enjoy the ring MUCH more than anything I’ve had on my wrist.
Let’s be clear, this isn’t a smart watch. You aren’t going to be answering calls, GPS tracking your runs, or texting your buddies. But, if you want to keep tabs on your activity, sleep, stress, and readiness for tackling the day and a workout, this thing is pretty great.
The look and feel is very nice. I chose the midnight color, and I really like it. It’s a deep blue with gloss finish. It’s bound to get scuffed up over time, but it does have a polishing cloth to help keep it nice. It’s noticeable on my hand, but I like how it looks and it’s a conversation starter. It’s a bit chunky compared to a normal ring, but I really don’t find it problematic at all. You definitely need to use the sizing kit to make sure you get the correct fit. The sizing kit also gives you an idea of how chunky the ring will be before you buy it. Additionally, you should do a little research about what finger to wear it on. While it can function on just about any finger, there are recommendations for top performance and wear and tear.
Battery life is good. I’m getting about 5 days. While you can wear it in the shower, I’m finding that if I just drop it on the charger while I shower, it pretty much never runs down. The instructions recommend short charges more frequently rather than letting it run all the way down as a way to extend the life of the battery over time.
Setup was really easy. Just add the app to your phone. Put the ring on the charging base. Tell the app to add a device and it will find it (make sure BT is on). Super easy. The app is well designed and easy to navigate. It takes about 5 days to gather enough data for all of the advanced features to unlock, but you get your basic activity, heart rate, and sleep data right away. I was sick when I got mine, and I found a way to tell the app that I’m sick, so it doesn’t bug me about activity. That was nice. After a few days, it started to gently prod me back into activity.
It has a stress monitor as well. I was skeptical about this feature. I didn’t understand how it would know if I’m stressed. Well, I still don’t understand it, but I do believe it works. I watched my favorite NFL team win on a last second field goal after a brutal back and forth game. After the game was over, I looked at my stress chart. You could easily see when the game began and spikes in my stress level watching the game go back and forth, with my peek stress point on the game winning kick. Very cool!
I find the numbers motivating. Whether it’s the app telling me I need to work on my sleep habits or telling me that I should be good to hit the gym pretty hard, I like it. It’s just one little thing that helps keep me engaged in my journey without being uncomfortable to wear. There is a monthly fee, but unlike most subscription based fitness apps, I think one is work it.

This oura ring is Fantastic for tracking health data and looks great as well. You do need to buy the membership to get the most out of the oura ring though. You also should buy the sizing kit first to know which size fits you best. I would do this even if you had used older generations of the oura ring as well. Your finger could if grown bigger or smaller during the time you last tried it out. The ring tracks my usual data like your smart watch would but in a smaller package that you don’t need to have on your wrist and the battery life is longer as well. I found watches last around a day or two at best. This lasts around a week before needing to charge it again. They suggest you using this on your index finger but I’ve seen people use these kind of rings on the middle and ring finger as well. Using this with their app and subscription gives you data that isn’t just numbers in your face but in an easy digestible way which is great. Gives you a sleep score based on how long you sleep and etc for example.
Pretty, but less comfortable than the standard one

I was very excited to add the ceramic ring given how gorgeous it is, however upon putting it on I found it was significantly less comfortable than the metallic Oura 4. This is pretty much exclusively due to the ring being 20% thicker than the standard titanium ring, causing it to press against other fingers and anything you might be grasping noticeably more than the regular one.
Within an hour I'd already boxed it up for return, and will be sticking to just my regular Oura 4.
Hopefully one day they can make a ceramic one that is the same thickness as the current titanium, at which time I'll gladly upgrade, but for now the extra $150 for less comfort just isn't a good option :/

First of all the setup with pretty straight forward via the app. I charged it on the base prior to setup. The base looks cool and does not take up a lot of space which is something I appreciate.
I have been using fitness trackers for the last 12 years, so I have established a baseline for the data that is provided.
I must say data is very good and now I am starting to question the accuracy of my previous tracker, especially when it comes to sleep. Note that this ring has to be worn for a month for everything to be calibrated. I'm looking forward to this.
The biggest complaint about this ring is that it is too bulky. During daily activities I can feel the ring squeezing against my other fingers. Also, it is uncomfortable when I am weight lifting. Very annoying when I am bench pressing.
My other complaint is the color choices. I wished there was a black color or colors that look like actual jewelry, but I guess that might be difficult with ceramic.
Outside of my two complaints, I do like this ceramic ring and I think the app is very good and provides very good data.
