I purchased this 4k player and I installed and o my the picture is amazing I really recommended

I love this 4k player. It's so much better than my Sony 4k player I just got rid of.

This is a review of the Panasonic 4K Ultra HD DP-UB820-K Blu-Ray player.

I bought the UB-820 so that I could use separate HDMI cables for video and audio. I confirmed that this would work with a Best Buy associate. I wanted to do this not only to maintain the separation of the signals, but to be able to take advantage of HDR-10+, which my Denon receiver cannot Pass, but my Vizio M-558(also purchased from Best Buy) can display along with Dolby Vision and standard HDR-10. After setting everything up, I put in a 4K blu ray to check everything out. Video looked great. One major problem though...no sound. Nothing. Just silence. I checked every cable, and setting. Just nothing. When putting things back together, I still had the movie playing, and when I put the hdmi from the UB-820 back in, I suddenly got the audio playing though the Denon. Great! All set right? Wrong. As soon as I plugged the HDMI that goes from the Denon into the tv, which carries all the other video to the tv, the audio stops again. After trying for an entire weekend trying everything, contacting Best Buy with no help, asking on every forum I could find, I was left with 2 options. Go behind my tv and remove the HDMI from the Denon every time I wanted to watch anything from the UB-820, or route only 1 HDMI to carry both audio and video through the receiver, and in the process losing HDR-10+, and negating one of the main selling points of the player. I’ve gone with the second option at the moment. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the player or the tv, but “hi-res” dedicated audio HDMI not being a working option is very disappointing. On the purchase side, after getting the email that the order shipped and given the delivery date, I took that day off from work to be home so I could avoid theft from my front door which happens often. Unfortunately the Best Buy warehouse decided to sit on the shipment for an extra day with no explanation, which lead to a wasted loss of a vacation day, as it was delivered a day late.

Freezes up...all the time! Very frustrated thus far. I bought this due to previously owning a Sony 4k player that would "occasionally" freeze up, and cause frustrations, especially considering I live in a rural area with a large blu ra/4k physical library...and 2 young children who would watch as well. I actually liked the picture quality of the Sony 4k player fine, and it matched well with my Sony OLED. After much research however, I figured I would buy a "step up" 4k player. I have been extremely disappointed. I am not sure if I received a lemon from Panasonic, but the picture quality to me is very similar, but it freezes up WAY more often. This thing is the most sensitive blu ray/4k player I have ever owned...and that is going back many years, pre streaming! I am probably going to have to try my luck with Panasonic warranty department, because there is no way this should be acceptable for a standalone 4k player that stand behind.

I'm glad that Panasonic has stepped up to the plate after OPPO Players went off the air. That was just too bad and although the Panasonic top-of-the-line DP-UB9000 has lots of promises, the sister UB-420 is the better priced with as good features as the top-of-the-line one. I would only give it 4 stars because I thought that it was just a bit overpriced leaving choices for other competitors in the market. All in all, I like this model from Panasonic and it functions well as it should.

This is my first 4k player, I own the original Oppo bdp-83, still works great and was sad Oppo left the market this year before I was able to buy a 4K player. Have debated for a while which to get but all the reviews of the processor in this player made my decision. The price isnt as big of a deal to me since its same price i paid 9 years ago for my Oppo.

Excellent picture for both 4K and 1080P content. Easy setup. I only wish the remote was backlit.

Excellent blu player Dolby Vision is a must have best player I’ve ever owned

I have had only a few weeks with the player but it appears to be an excellent performer and no problems.

So far very happy with the purchase. Got it at $100 off so great value for a top notch product.

It produces excellent quality video play back. The voice assistant, however, is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It reminded me of a turkey making gobbling sounds. Naturally I turned it off.

My old Panasonic player bit the dust. So decided to replace it with another Panasonic player.
