This thing is super slow. Hit the "internet" button and that's when you realize just how slow the menu system is. Why doesnt it play The Lion King bluray or UHD blu ray? Movie plays fine in my other players, but not on this. Yes I am using for most up to date firmware.

This is a big upgrade from my 10 year old blu ray player. I just wish it played more digital file types.

I bought this because it was greatly lauded for it's tone mapping abilities. I was using it with a 1080p projector and was hoping to open up the world of 4k discs with exclusive Atmos tracks. I spent significant time trying to get the various settings right, but ultimately found that the HDR -SDR conversion lacking, especially in skin tones. The greyscale performance was better, but the colors were just wrong. I've heard great things about this player, and perhaps it is very good on a 4k/HDR display, but it's not the best choice for down scaling. I also found the build quality to be a big let down along with the menu system being cheap and clunky. The apps (netflix and prime) would not connect either, so I was unable to utilize any internal tone mapping/video processing for streaming either. Audio performance was solid, perhaps better than the player I ended up with.

Great for 4K UHD discs, but…

This unit plays 4K Ultra HD discs just fine. But, throw a blu ray in it and not so much. But, I read this is the case for many owners when I search for information online. There are some hacks that I have tried to allow the standard blu ray discs to play. That works for some, not for some. About a 50/50 chance. I would expect the potential of this issue at a much lower price point, but definitely not for a player over $300 USD. I’ve checked the region codes, not the problem. I’ve updated the firmware and tried everything I could research online and find for a fix. Nothing seems to work. I’ll most likely be returning it.

Hello! We deeply appreciate that you took the time to provide us with your feedback! Please note that the unit supports BD-Video discs with region code A and DVD-Video discs with region code 1, including "All". If you're experiencing playback issues, try performing a factory reset by holding [OK], the yellow, and blue buttons on the remote for over 5 seconds while the unit is off, then follow the prompts to reset. If the issue persists, we recommend seeking professional assistance from our authorized service center. Thank you for your feedback! -C Panasonic

    Misleading player regarding 7.1 inputs

I previously had a Panasonic SA BT-200. When it stopped working properly I wanted to replace it. After my good experience with Panasonic I bought this model. I came to find out it was an inferior model. The website led me to believe I could hook up my previous 7.1 speakers. No where in the description did it state I needed to buy an additional amplifier. The Blu Ray player has 7.1 speaker connections on it. But without an amplifier you can only hear sound if you hold the speaker to your ear. I contacted Panasonic customer support. The agent could not help, he asked his other agents for help who also were clueless. They said they would research and get back to me. Never did. I search the internet and found a review on the Critchfield site where numerous customers were also asking about getting sound out of their speakers. Crutchfield stated you need an amplifier. So, Panasonic not only is misleading customers by selling a unit with the connections for speakers which doesn't work, but also their customer support agents have no idea how the unit works. Wish I could return but I bought this and did not get a chance to hook it up until a few months later, past the return date. Now I must spend additional money on an amplifier.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! The SA-BT200 and DP-UB820-K are different types of products designed for different purposes. The SA-BT200 is a Home Theater system focusing on sound quality, while the DP-UB820-K is a Blu-ray player emphasizing high-quality video playback. While a Blu-ray player can work without an amplifier if you're using the TV's speakers, for a more robust audio setup with external speakers, an amplifier or AV receiver is typically needed. We apologize for any misunderstanding, but it's important to clarify that on our website we emphasize the capabilities of the HDMI Low Clock Jitter Process in delivering exceptional audio quality, regardless of the brand of TV or AV receiver. Additionally, our manual outlines two potential connections: one to a TV and the other to an amplifier. It's worth noting that the functionality of a Blu-ray home theater system may differ from that of a standalone Blu-ray player. -M Panasonic

After owning the player for a few years it began pausing in the middle of the movie. The only way we can get it to play again is by stopping and then reloading the disc. At first we thought it was just the movie that we are playing but then after it happened quite a few times with various movies we realized it was the player.

Best Available 4K UHD BluRay Player

The tone mapping of HDR10 content is the best on the market, period. It also is capable of processing Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content as well. For the price I expected a much more robustly built case, similar to that of the now discontinued Oppo UDP-203. To get the build quality from Panasonic you have to step up to the DP-UB9000 which cost twice as much and adds tone mapping settings for projectors as well as superior DAC's for two-channel listening.

Hello William! Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about the freezing issues you've experienced, this isn’t the level of performance we strive for, and we truly appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We recommend performing a reset on the unit by pressing the OK, Y and B button on the remote at the same time. Press [►] (right) repeatedly on the remote control until “08 FIN” is displayed on the screen. Press and hold [OK] for more than 5 seconds. We hope these steps will be of help! - F Panasonic

Overpriced and under-equipped. The Sony 700 is better at half the price. The panasonic remote does not have a button for "subtitles" or "display." The Sony has both. I watched the Criterion Collection DVD of "Downhilll Racer." The DVD menu does not have an option for subtitles, but when you press the subtitle button on the Sony, the come right up. I could never find them on the Panasonic. Worthless.
