Beautiful picture, quiet and does what I expect. Support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision works as expected and takes advantage of FEL and MEL enhancements.

Upgraded from 700M Sony player, and it has been quite worth it. Automatic Dolby Vision switching and hdr adjustments make the picture look better than it had, and it sounds much better as well. Have experienced far fewer freezes during playback.

Picture quality is pretty great. Connected to a C2 OLED via an HDMI 2.1 cable. Seems to do a great job of selecting the best picture settings for the content you put through it. On screen menu feels like an afterthought. I do feel like the price is there because Panasonic knows there are not currently too many competitors that offer the features this unit offers and the field of manufacturers that could go up against them is shrinking, so their prices expand accordingly. Supply and demand, I guess. While I do recommend this unit to other videophiles, I do not recommend it to the average person trying to enjoy a movie with the kids.

Bought the ub820 in excellent condition paid around $399 with a $10 certificate. Works excellent. It was sent from Colorado Best Buy. No dings no scratches. Remote brand new condition. If you can get one in excellent condition might as well to save a littke bit of money. No streaming problems. I already knew it is a slow process.

Video audio quality on par with oppo 203

Compared to my oppo 203, this Panasonic feels a lot lighter, is smaller, and more plasticky. However, the video quality once tweaked for OLED tv, is on par with the oppo. The Panasonic's audio is clearer and louder especially in the rear surround channels compared to my oppo. The only complaints I have are when a disc is inserted it tends to whirl louder than the oppo before settling down. During a movie the spinning disc is not noticeable. Secondly, the remote control is rather small and buttons are not illuminated so you will fumble in the dark feeling for controls.

    The sweet spot

I bought this to replace a Samsung 4K Blu-ray player. As expected, Dolby Vision encoded discs get a substantial visual improvement since Samsung refuses to support Dolby Vision. What I didn't expect were visual improvements on "plain" HDR discs, or general audio quality improvements. I'm only using HDMI for audio and video. If you don't need high quality analog audio output, this 4K player is the sweet spot! It's $200 more than the Samsung (unless you find it on sale), but you definitely get what you pay for (e.g. build quality). This unit seems to be selling out fast everywhere, so don't hesitate!

bought this unit because i heard that its up scaling and UHD picture was amazing. i found that my older blue ray dvd look awesome on my sony tv. upsaclce to 4k. the 4k ultra disc look pristine.I had a nice uhd dvd player before but this one cost a little more but can definitely see and hear the difference! the unit automatically adjust to your TV hdmi setting (lcd or oled). the only thing it doesn't have very many streaming app on it. netflix and amazon, no hulu. Overall it's a great UHD bluray ! i would recommend it.

I bought this to go with my OLED. It has everything you can ask for in a player. I picked this one because it is Dolby Vision capable, it has all the HDRs. I really like how you can set it to the type of tv you have and it adjust the signal output accordingly. All the different adjustable setting and the resulting picture quality really sets it apart. I also like how the HCX processor cleans up the non DV HDR and makes this content look spectacular.

This is my second Panasonic UB820K player. I previously bought one in 2020 open box because I couldn't find a new one in the store. I noticed the image quality wasn't up to standard ,not sure if something was broken .The picture quality was good but it wasn't mind blowing good. My old player just broke and it recently stopped sending a signal through the HDMI to my television. I was very apprehensive to get another from Panasonic at such a high price of $500. I followed my instinct and bought the UB820 again. I have a 65" Sony A90J which i use primarily to watch 4K HDR movies and sports. I believe Panasonic did a silent upgrade on this player because the picture quality is light years ahead of what I got on my other broken player. The colors produced are richer, HDR highlights pop brighter and detail is preserved. I also have a Sony X800M2 player and in comparison the UB820 is miles ahead in image quality. I watched 4k versions of Thor love and thunder, Bullet Train , Elvis, doctor Strange Multiverse and they all look incredibly sharp and detailed. This player has the latest firmware out of the box ver 1.69. I want to believe that Panasonic has done some tweaking on Dolby vision because it looks incredible. I have to recommend this player because the picture quality it produces is worth the money. I am over satisfied with my purchase.

I have had a TV and 4K discs capable of Dolby Vision for years and have never been able to enjoy the benefit of it. Upon purchasing this player, not only did I gain access to DV but I noticed a marked improvement in sound and picture quality. If you are using an Xbox or PS5 to play your 4K discs, I would urge you to change that and splurge for a dedicated blu-ray player. It elevated my entire home theater.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the player itself. It has great video and audio options and the image is great. My one takeaway, which is a minor gripe and could be fixed with another remote is that the Up directional button is right below the Netflix button so I press the netflix button accidentally sometimes. Minor gripe, I know. The UI isn't great but the player has tons of customization and really, the image quality makes up for the remote button placement issue.

For context, I have the 2018 LG E8 65 inch display, which I had accompanied by the top end lg player at the time, "pk90", I believe. I really wasn't happy with the player in the long run, especially after seeing the difference in store. I bought the player on the spot and since, my enjoyment has been more than what I expected. Simply the best upgrade I could've given myself. All my 1080p bluray and usb drive content looks AMAZING. The most impressive upscaling I've seen, 1080 usually looks bad but not at all with this player. 10/10 would recommend.

This player is well worth the money if you have the setup to take advantage of it. I upgraded from a Sony that was having non-stop issues and this player absolutely blows it out of the water. The menus are way easier to navigate, the remote is a decent size instead a miniscule thing. Picture quality is fantastic, it upscales blu-rays better than anything I have ever seen, with little to no audio delay. Very happy with it.

I used to use my Xbox or PS5 as a 4k Blu-ray player, but this really does provide a better picture and sound experience, which makes sense because this is an actual dedicated player. It supports both HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. It's nice being able to adjust the pictures setting, something you really can't do when using a console. Amazing 4k player.

After oppo left the marketplace, this Panasonic stepped in as the must have player. After owning this player for over 6 months, i haven't had any glitches or problems. It's been rock solid, and the hdr optimizer is a game changer for those with lower nit tv sets. It does everything well except for as a streaming device. Leave that for a roku or apple tv. As a standalone player with Dolby vision, this is as good as it gets.

My previous 4K player was a Sony which froze often while watching 4K blurays. I bought this based on various reviews and recommendations as a replacement. So far, this player blows the Sony away. I've watched a dozen or so discs already with no freezing and the picture quality is amazing. I haven't compared the picture quality side by side with the Sony but the Panasonic seems better.

Very good video quality - So far no 4k freezing or pixelation issues - Very configurable audio and video settings - Build quality is fair but plasticky and light weight for a $400 plus player - Won't play some audio and video files - My $200 Sony X800m2 plays every file type I've thrown at it - I'll have to wait and see how reliable it is and how long it will last - Other Panasonic equipment I own has proven to be a good value and very durable.

I would ALMOST give this UHD (4K) Blu-ray player a 5-star. It plays VERY smoothly, has a good menu system with options for optimum settings. I have yet to explore all the options. I really like the Dolby Vision option with the constantly updating metadata refreshing (versus static metadata). Panasonic did what virtually every eother DVD deck (not OPPO) does at similar price and lower- NO back-lit remote ! C’mon Panny ! I mean, for about a $450, player, you could squeeze in a $8. light!
