Customers consistently note the outstanding picture quality and the various HDR options available on the 4K Ultra HD Streaming Blu-ray Player. The upscaling feature is also praised for improving the quality of older Blu-ray discs, and the backlit remote is appreciated for its convenience. However, some customers mention the price as a drawback and the lack of SACD support.

I used to use a PS5 as my 4k Blu Ray Player. This is worth the upgrade if you have a home theater system. Better sound and better picture quality
Hello! Thank you for your review. We’re glad to hear that the upgrade has enhanced your home theater experience with better sound and picture quality. It’s great to know that you’re enjoying the improved performance compared to your previous setup. - S

As a 4k UHD player, this is a spectacular machine. Excellent build quality, and it has SO many features to make sure you're seeing the best 4k picture possible. Lobe that it has both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (if any studio actually starts using it).
Blu-ray playback is good, and DVD works fine, but you can get better picture quality from older players. The 9000 introduces some picture "enhancement" that sometimes makes non-UHD content look less than perfect. Minor complaint is that there's no zoom feature for really old non-anamorphic DVDs, so you can't scale them up to full your screen. But seriously, at this point, almost nobody has many of those in their collections.
Really happy with the player so far. It feels way more sturdy than Panasonic's next step down (the 820), even though the features are nearly identical outside of build quality and audio connections.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback with us. We're grateful for your honest feedback and we're glad you feel we're on the right track! -M

Seems like a great 4K player, built very well, weighs 17.2 lbs. Menu easy to use although some have stated it’s complicated.Have only played 2 4K movies with it so far as I have not had much time but everything has worked perfectly and looked great so far.I have a great Sony 800 4K player also and haven’t used the Panasonic enough yet to tell if it looks better.
Hello Terry! Thank you for your detailed feedback and for choosing Panasonic. We’re glad to hear the 4K player is performing well and that you find the menu easy to use. It’s great that your initial experience with the picture quality has been positive. We hope you continue to enjoy exploring all the features and capabilities of your new player. - S

Purchased this due to OPPO not manufacturing any more players. I've owned 2 Panasonic units over the years and their quality/reliability is beyond reproach. Has analogue 7.1 analogue inputs which was very important d/t owning legacy components.
While it may be a bit costly compared to other players the construction and quality are worth it IMHO.
Highly recommended.

I originally had the Panny 820, but almost immediately upgraded to this top-of-the-line 9000. The 820 was decent, but it began to pixelate a number of discs (even after I cleaned the discs). I have found this 9000 to be superior in every way. It plays everything without issue. It is rock-solid and doesn't have the plastic feel of the 820. The video and audio are also noticably cleaner on my calibrated LG-G2 77" OLED.
Yes, it's pricy and twice the price of the 820. However, in all the decades of my purchasing higher-end audio/video equipment, I've come to learn you really do get what you pay for in equipment. I thought the 820 would suffice, but at the end it was the 9000 that hit the sweet spot. If you spent good money on your display device, do yourself a favor and don't skimp on the player that feeds it.
We deeply appreciate you took the time to provide us with your feedback! We are happy to hear the product meets your expectations. -G

I've always been a fan of Panasonic since I shopped all over for my first VCR (looking for one that was actually made in Japan) and spent $400! It simply had the best picture quality, as does this 4K player. Operation is smooth and silky and the build quality is top-notch. The HDR optimization features are a must if you have a projector or OLED. It will preserve the details of bright lights and suns (stop them from blowing out) on HDR 10 titles without altering the brightness of the entire image like displays do. You can customize it for the type of display you have. Combined with my LG OLED's dynamic tone mapping, these titles look almost as good as Dolby Vision grades. It also has different HDR settings you can try for day-watching if your room gets brighter than ideal. They're bound to be better than your display's algorithm. Panasonic has always had top-notch scaling, so it's great for upscaling your Blu-rays and DVDs too.
P.S. You might want to price match with a huge online store while you can!
Thank you for your positive feedback! It's wonderful to hear you are enjoying the product! -M

I've used several CD/DVD/Blu-Ray players over the years. I researched this Panasonic unit for a few months before going into the local Best Buy and watching/listening to their demo unit. I was impressed with both the video quality and audio accuracy. In addition when I picked the unit up I realized it's built like a tank! Robust frame and chassis. Well engineered using top quality components results in a high end unit. This unit is a little better than my Oppo and that's saying a lot. You get what you pay for...
Thank you for the glowing review and the 5-star rating. We're delighted to have provided you with a positive experience. -M

I bought this high-end 4K UHD DVD player to get superior video quality on my Sony OLED TV when watching 4K UHD DVD’s. I’m NOT disappointed. The audio and video are excellent. Of course, the player works well with Blu-ray and standard DVD’s. The unit itself is hefty and is built extremely well, which is what I’d expect from such a pricey player. The player offers an “HDR Optimzer” for better tone mapping. I don’t use this feature, as I prefer to let my Sony A9G TV present unaltered HDR video. BTW, this player isn’t universal; it doesn’t support SACD and DVD-A. That’s OK for me, as I spend the bulk of my time watching high-quality video.
I wish I bought an Oppo 4K UHD player before they left the business. Darn it!

I thought nothing could compare to the Oppo UDP-203 (which is no longer in production), but was amazed by the performance and build quality of the Panasonic DP-UB9000. I own them both now and can honestly say that they are of equal quality and design features. If I were to choose on the basis of picture clarity and sound quality, I would rate the Panasonic as being slightly better on both.

The Panasonic UP 9000 has been available in Europe since January 2018. Meaning it's been tested and reviewed for almost a year and a half.
The reviews have been incredible.
With its' HDR optimizer feature and solid steel build, this is the finest 4k Blu-ray player built to date.
Is it worth $1,000?
If you have a very good 4k TV, absolutely. I had the highly respected Panasonic UB 900 Blu-ray player. The difference in picture and build are significant.
For true videophiles, this is a must buy.

Recently purchased from Best Buy the Samsung - 65” Class QN900B Neo QLED 8K Smart Tizen TV, connected to the then flagship Samsung 4K UBD-M9700 which is no slouch with 4K P.Q. & sound. Decided since upgrading the TV should probably upgrade the player too.
The Panasonic DP-UB9000P1K was a perfect match for the 8K TV, picture quality shockingly improved, the next big surprise was the bitstream THX surround mated my THX Pre-Pro produced stunning 7.1 surround, that revealed enveloping realistic sounds I never heard before coming from the speakers, clearer center channel dialogue, surround effects, and subs produced greater depth and low-end space.
The player also does a magnificent job on standard 1080p Blu-Ray discs.
This player truly a flagship player, and IMO worth every penny.
My biggest problem is, now I need to rediscover my entire video library.
As for Best Buy: shipping needs to be greatly improved as the box was not double boxed which is needed to protect the original box from being dented, scuffed and most of all to keep anyone from knowing there is a very expensive player inside.

Great solid player - Nice remote and pairs well with 4K TV as well as smart mgmt via the TV remote. excellent resolution. Only problem was a local store.. pick-up was delayed for 5 days, and customer service was insistent that pick-up occur within 5 days arrival despite being in the evacuation zone for the Eaton Brushfire in Pasadena. Makes me pause before ordering for in-store pick-up in the future

I first purchased the Panasonic UB-820 and thought it was great player in the price point of $550.00. However, curiosity got the best of me and I decided to buy the Panasonic UB9000 in August 2019. This 4k player is match with a Sony A8F OLED TV and the performance is astounding. I recently watched the movie John Wick Chapter 3 and the 9000 displayed an image on the Oled that was at 1000nits. I'm very happy with the overall performance of the Panasonic UB9000. It's great!

This is by far the best uhd player on earth. If you’re thinking about going with a lower price player like I was, DONT. If you think the 4k you see watching Amazon, Playstion 5, or Netflix looks great it’s garbage compared to this. This player lets you see what 4k can really look like. It will blow you away how much better your 4k tv will look! It’s expensive but worth every penny in my opinion.

The HDR optimizer feature is the real deal. If you own a projector, the HDR will always be too dark, the UB9000 solves that problem! I currently have the Epson 4k eshift projector, and using the optimizer makes the 4k discs look incredible now! It also features XLR outs if you want to do dual purpose for 2 channel audio with CDs. I also have the UB820, and the UB9000 has a hefty build quality and has a few additional features you will appreciate if you have a projector or OLED display. I highly recommend this player. Only drawback is it will not play SACD or DVD-Audio discs

For awhile i was chasing the perfect soundstage by calibrating my home theater system. The last piece of the puzzle was the UB 9000. The disc content completely outperforms the apple 4k that i have both audibly & visually. It was like watching the movies for the first time again.
Hi there! Thank you for your amazing review! We are glad that the UB9000 has completed your quest for the perfect soundstage. Great quality player. Much like the Oppo of the past. Only down thing is I can't link the volume control on the Panasonic remote to my Sony TV. (the instructions do say it won't work on some TV's). I guess Sony is one of them. I have checked the "settings" for the code, but it still doesn't link. Minor issue. Otherwise, great picture, and everything works well. Pretty Pricy.
