For those who enjoy the occasional mystical, fantasy romance film - "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman" is an intriguing and sumptuous addition to any film buff's library and belongs in the same class as Powell & Pressburger's "The Red Shoes" or their "A Matter of Life and Death", or Jean Cocteau's "Orphée". Sets and settings are striking and the restored color and clarity of textures are quite pleasing. I recommend upscaling on 4k UHD Blu-ray player for optimal viewing. It looked very rich and crisp on my Oppo player. By today's more cynical standards the characterizations may come across as too melodramatic, so one wonders what a director like M. Night Shyamalan or Guillermo del Toro might do with this story if it was ever remade and updated in a present day 21st Century setting.

This is a great romantic movie with James Mason and Ava Gardner in the Flying Dutchman tale. James is the cursed Captain of The Flying Dutchman ship, who is doomed to sail the seven seas until he can find the one woman who would love him so much, she would gladly go with him.
